Many people have been saying the AI seen in the Demo's has been replaced by an AI that 'runs on rails'. However when i was doing the 300km Grand Valley race again in an X2010, after i'd lapped the field 10 times some AI cars started to block me on the pit straight. And no they weren't following the racing line, As i drafted up behind them if i pulled left they pulled left, as i pulled right they pulled right. The same cars always seem to be the culprits (a subaru impreza, a toyota supra and a mitsubishi galant).

They just move away from your line cause you're trying to lap them. Has nothing to do with blocking your way. Your X2010 is just too fast for them to react and move to the right position. :p They don't always do this though, sometimes it seems they move away, you get almost next to them and they pretty much bash into you as if they didn't know you were there, usually in corners.

I've seen something quite remarkable about the AI as well. Amidst my hatred for the NASCAR series events, I ran the four hour roadster endurance at Tsukuba with a fairly competitive car power wise, but had upgraded suspension and tires. With these upgrades, I'd catch to rear of the pack within 5-10 laps. If I had caught them in a corner, they'd stick to the racing line, but if I caught them on the back straight or the straight next to pit lane, they'd pull out of the racing line to let me pass.

The main problem with the AI that I've found is the super early braking and consequent slow speed in the corner. If PD made them brake later and not as hard they'd be much improved, if still a little on rails. I shouldn't be passing 6 cars in one braking zone.

Other cars do pull out of the way. These 3 always pull in front of me. Perhaps it's just a glitch making them go the wrong way

Yeah, they don't always move the right way. Had it happen often today when doing the 4H Nurburgring endurance. It's like they only check if you're behind them and then they just randomly move left or right. Most of the time they do it right though, but sometimes you end up bashing into them cause they move the wrong back or they just move back before you even passed them.

'Intelligent AI in GT5', all in the same phrase and internet not exploding? :sly:

I had the same experience in the Great Valley 300 with a Toyota FT86 against a Mazda RX7... 1st & 2nd and insanely blocking me... lapping him at 4th time.

In real racing if you are coming up on a slower car and they have not received the blue passing flag they normally hold their racing line.

I would rather the AI keep their racing line and not move. It is a crap shoot the way it is now. I don't know where they are going and have to make a decision which is usually the wrong one and the AI ends up bashing into me. Now I just slow down until I get a clear passing lane.

They'll move out of the line when you're lapping them...sometimes. Of course you may very well be trying to pass them on the other side, in which case they'll cut you off. Sometimes they like to stay on the line until you're just about to overtake them, then swerve into you. Other times they just ignore you. That's especially nice when one car is getting off the line and the other is staying on it, as they block off the entire road.

Yeah. Sometimes it is really dangerous when they do their moves in the braking zones or twisty parts of the track while I'm already braking late and committed to the inside line. It is especially dangerous because the ai brakes in totally odd places and is sick slow in some corners.

I could understand if the ai cars took an outside line in turns when I'm behind but other than good intentions seem like blatant blocking very easily...

Naturally the problem gets the worse the faster car you are driving.

I think the idea is nice for the ai cars to let you through but in practise it creates more problems than it solves.
