These two threads have got me thinking. I think it would be cool if there was an official review thread where we would post new car reviews including pictures and what not. The YSSMAN 08 chevy Malibu one is a great example. I tried to do something similar but it didn't stir up much conversation.

If anyone else likes reading and posting about new car reviews please say so because I would love to make a thread about it. I just don't want to make a thread and have it fail like many others I have made.

So please... comments, suggestions?

I'd like that, but members would have to stick to reviewing cars they've spent time with, rental, courtesy, owned etc. It'd be stupid and pointless if it was for cars that you didn't.

I agree like you would have to have actual wheel time with the car. I personally am loving going to dealerships and test driving cars. So far in the month I have had my license I have tested 3 cars. I will copy the reviews and put them on this thread.

I do have a passenger-impressions review from GMi on the Impala that my father got as a loaner car a few weeks back....

This is something that I think we've knocked around a bit before in the Premium thread, no?

I'd love to have an actual section for it, it gives some of us room to flex our writing/critical skills. Hell, get it going right we could try to get press credentials and do some real awesome stuff...

I'm all for it. The only thing I ask is that reviewers/editors go out and try something different once in a while. Thats why I went and tried the Toyota a while back, and like M-Spec and *McLaren* with the CTS as well...

I've contacted Jordan about this in the past and he would like to see individual threads based on experiences by members, but obviously it would have to be a decent review and not something short and haphazard.

Some kind of way of organizing it would be interesting, however. I mean, I doubt that we could ever match something as awesome as Top Gear or Car and Driver (or whatever), but I'm sure we could almost do a magazine format on some kind of blog thing.

Maybe we have a thread where the reviews are submitted, edited, and then we post them up on a collection-style website? Appoint a few "editors" who have "columns" on various subjects, a few different "reviews" from various users (edited, of course), and maybe some kind of other thing (to be determined later...).

I'm glad to see you guys are on the same page as me. What should I do? Make a thread, or wait to see if something bigger happens?

Edit:

Well I think I am just going to pm jordan and show him what ideas we are throwing around here and see what he says.

Well, I've thrown a few ideas around in my head...

- Have a few of us write some reviews, but on a semi-consistent basis
- Have a thread to collect, publish, and peer-review these reviews
- Place them on some kind of blog or web-page, sort of a bi-weekly or monthly "magazine" of sorts
- Have "editors" to write op-eds, organize stories, etc

That may be too complicated, but I'd love to actually do something with it... And not just cars either. I'm sure we could tie GT or Forza in on occasion as well...

Those sound like great ideas. I would love any excuse to frequently test out cars and share my experience. If this goes down I would really like to be a part of this. I could be one of the "reviewers" and help organize the thread.

Also how do you guys think of the reviews I have written. https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=100919
The ones I would write in the future would be longer and full of details and pictures.

BTW... I just sent jordan a pm to see what he thinks. Hopefully he will see all of your responses and kindly consider this idea.

-> Well, I've been doing the same thing in two websites:

GTPlanet

TQPI.net

-> I think that would be a great idea, but this sort of process takes a lot of individual time for all the would-be authors. I for one can't keep up all the the cars the I test drove and lay it on the thread all the time. Because I've been very busy with real-life and my infamous wish list.

-> As YSS stated on a another thread, a podcast would be a great addition too.

-> Most of my threads (from GTP) are short and lopsided. While my newer ones (in TQPI) are longer and a bit more comprehensive. And it doesn't cover only here in the US, but I've had some impressions back in the Philippines.

-> I'm in for this idea, along with YSS and the others.

:)

These would probably make for some good posts on our shiny new WordPress installation ready and waiting to go live with GTP9. :)

I'm happy that everyone is excited about it, and furthermore, that we may have the tools to facilitate it!

I'd suggest that we continue to do what we have been doing, for now, and then go about making it a bit more "professional" as we all gain more practice.

Sounds good. I think I am going to work on reviewing my dads Suzuki Xl-7. That is the vehicle I drive the most and can write a lot about it.

For the time being, the Products and Services Review Forum is the closest thing we have. So until something a little official is decided on, I would start there. There are already one or two car reviews in there.

I strongly agree with this. We have more than enough posts passing judgment on cars the OP has never driven as it is.

No drive = No care.

I don't think I'd be able to really contribute much if anything, as I don't really get around to test driving or renting cars. I'd definitely like to read them though - things along the line of ///M-Spec's recent CTS test driving impressions would be great, too.

In fact, this whole thing makes perfect sense considering it's a car enthusiast forum.

^ I think what you are planning to do is like a long-term test drive or a blog about your adventures on your XL-7, no biggie on that. ;)

On the ideas of having "reviewer" and "editor" positions:

Do we have people that could actually head out to the dealer and consistently put up good reviews? Yes, they would be helpful in making sure people do it but are people really willing to commit to this?

But I do think that having some kind of "official" thing going would be great:tup:.

I would be able to go out at least once a month to test drive cars. I have a good amount of dealerships by my house. I am actually planning to try the be the vw r32 and gli next time I go to the vw dealership. I think that I would be a good reviewer for this. Maybe I could be assigned to small cheap sports cars.

^ Heh, heh, I always have a shot 60% of the time, until they know me by heart, and it always never easy.

-> I really do hope on that too, it would be great if we have access on all of the press releases/events/conventions. Well I already got SEMA covered. ;)

-> I would like to test drive cars that those big magazines misses like for example, a full test of the 2006 Impreza WRX Sports Wagon (my wagon unfortunately) and a full test of the Mitsubishi Montero. ;)

~> MEDIA PASSES!!!

Dude I have the same problem. Everyone at the vw dealership knows me and are up my butt about when I am going to buy a car. I think may have to try the other places and not go there for a while.

I'll take the $100,000+ segment:dopey:!

We could have the US shows that matter covered. We might need guys to head out to Frankfurt, Geneva, Paris and Tokyo.

That's a good idea. We could all go out and test our own cars, at least the newer ones at least.

^ Also do the same thing too. I do a 'rotational basis' with car dealers here, so they don't show their game face on me instantly. :D

OT-> How did you find my reviews? Since you read some of it. :sly:

^ With enough funds allow, I could cover Philippines too! ;)

^ What I mean not just our cars but everytime we have every single oppurtunity that we could make use of.

Could I give passenger impressions? :D I'm not a half-bad writer at all. I could get comments on the quality of the drive from my dad. :)👍

Well, I guess the assigment would pretty much be this:

Go out and see what you can get your hands on, and write a review. Don't limit yourself to what you know best, because if I only wrote about GM and VW cars every damn time, my opinion wouldn't be worth a damn. Certainly it helps to write what you know about (mid-size sedans, for example, are my "thing"), but it always helps to broaden the horizons a bit.

If we do get somewhat "serious" about it, we would need three or four columnists. I know we've talked about it in Premium, but the most-vocal enthusiasts would have to give it a shot; M5Power, McLaren and possibly myself. I'd probably want to throw Joey in there too, but we may have to leave one open for a "freelance" position of sorts...

But even then, that almost makes it "too American." We'd have to have an Anglo in there...
