Apologies in advance, this is my first ever thread. As a (very) new member to GTPlanet I've been spending alot of time nosing through archives and old threads trying to catch up.

During one of my regular visits to the WRS Suggestions box I came across a post from StevenDeRuig, (credit where credits due). He suggested a four week series with standard road cars on real world circuits with cars from asia racing on asian tracks and american cars racing on american tracks etc.

I've probably made that sound more complicated than it actually is, for example,

American muscle cars at Laguna Seca,
German performance at the Ring,
Rice racers at Twin Ring,

and so on.

He suggested that the cars be completely standard apart from perhaps sports tyres, this could be run over the course of a few weeks with a different race each week, (as with most OLR series). This, as I've already said, was not my idea, but that's the way I interpreted it and I quite like the sound of it. I wouldn't know where to start with setting something like this up (as usually seems to be the case with these idea's). Maybe someone could cantact me and let me know exactly whats involved or be kind enough to set it up :).

Any takers?

I like the sound of this idea.

Steps to run a race series:
1. Make up the schedule (tracks and deadlines)
2. Make up the rules (cars, parts)
3. Open a sign-up thread (give at least a week before first event)
4. Start the first event
5. Stick with it for the whole series

But before you run your own series, you should probably get a handle on how it works by participating on a current series. Something in the Long Race Series forum:

Thanks for the breakdown Soyfu, I did'nt realise it was that simple. :dunce: As I seem to be posting all over GTPlanet, I'm very new to all this forum stuff, setting up a race series seemed a bit of a daunting task.

All I need now is some racers, I'll draw up some rough guidlines and see how much interest I can generate then.

Im interested in this and would help out if required.

I ran a fairly sucessfull 17wk series not so long back so got some experience!

To edit the thread title just go to edit button on your first post, go advanced and edit the name of the thread there, simple!

Pm me if you want any help...

Just to finish off I think something with the classics left as untouched as possible is a great idea, and even on road tyres perhaps??

best regards

David

Right what I'm proposing is a 4 to 6 week race series, the races will be run in a similar format to the WRS, as this is my only experience with OLR so far I'll stick with what I know.

The races will probably be only 2 or 3 lappers (depending on track length) to keep it reasonably easy to fit into todays hectic on-line racers schedule. :)

I'm not sure if I should do it with or without AI racers (this can be a bit of a bone of contention with some racers so any feedback on this would be helpful 👍). I've decided to go for 70's cars as this should give me plenty of choices to keep it interesting but stick with the classic theme.

I'd like to keep it all road cars rather than racers or specials, no tuning other than an oil change and if possible, cars available from the manufacturer rather than the used car lot, the theory behind this is that we won't have to worry about the week cycle in the used car lot, HP levels related to mileage levels and we won't have to worry about winning any of them before we can run each weeks race, thus keeping it relatively easy to obtain the correct car for the corresponding week.

I'll probably allow things like the port and polish and weight reduction as these are things that can't be removed once purchased so if any of you already own the relevant car fully tuned you won't need to buy a new one, just remove the non permitted items. I would like to keep the HP levels under 150ish though.

Any suggestions, post away. If you would be interested in taking part please feel free to PM me.

Darren

As far as I know, there's no way to run a race without AI opponents. :(

150hp is a good mark. What are some of the cars you are planning to allow?

More venues:
Nurburgring - Germany
Seoul - Korea
Costa di Amalfi - Italy
Cote d'Azur - France
Circuit de la Sarthe - France
Infineon Raceway - USA
Laguna Seca - USA
Suzuka - Japan
Motegi - Japan
Tsukuba - Japan
Route 5 - Japan
Route 246 - Japan

Here's a track list:

Yeah, the general consensus (I don't even bother checking my spelling anyore, heck it might as well be summer vacation!) is that with a car list and rules posted, you might conjure up some interest. Put me down in that category.

m.piedgros (though it has recently come to my attention m.piedlourde is the "correct spelling")

Still working on a car list, although I was going to allocate a car to each different race to keep things even.

If you would prefer a list of cars to choose from then please let me know. 👍

Right I've come up with a shortlist of cars. I'd like to use a different car each week so that everybodies driving the same car to keep the times as close as possible.

Marcos Mini Marcos GT '70
Nissan SKYLINE: Hard Top 2000 GT-R (KPGC10) '70 (sorry, there had to be one!)
Plymouth Cuda 440 Six Pack '71 (gotta keep the muscle heads happy.)
Alpine A310 1600VE '73
Lancia STRATOS '73
VW Golf I GTi '76

I know I originally said I wanted to keep the HP limited to around 150'ish but to get an American muscle car in under this limit was impossible so at least we'll have one week of tyre destroying oversteer! 👍

I decided to post this list of cars so we can all make sure that they are available (in arcade and GT modes, I'll be running a mixture) therefore eliminating the need to find each one after the races are posted.

I don't want to give away any race locations yet but when I've set up a sing-up thread I'll run a practice race.
