I've been considering organizing a "final return" for the rotaries at Midfield thread. I was curious if anyone was interested in running this again.

1) There will be 2 or 3 classes for each model. One with stock hp, one with full hp and an arcade version if available.

2) No minimum or maximum of entered classes per driver. In other words, run one car/class, all cars/classes or anything inbetween.

3) Mandatory replays for top 10 times. This will make it difficult to get started, but not sure what else to do. Any top driver wants to know he is running against a legitimate run if he is going to put a serious effort into it.
I will need PAL and Max Drive correspondents to help me check all the replays. I can check all the NTSC x-port/shark-port replays myself.

4) I may not be able to update the leaderboard for up to 48 hours at a time. So you might have to wait 2 days occasionally to see your time posted. Replay verification will add an extra 24 hours to this for NTSC and possibly longer for Max Drive or PAL replays depending on the outside help.

5) I threw together a webpage to test a lay-out. It can be viewed here:
http://www.tuff240.com/rotariesatmidfield.htm

6) It will also be posted at several different GT forums (not sure which ones yet).

7) I'd like to try to get Rypien's approval before I go any farther with this. He is the originator of the first "Rotaries at Midfield".

8) Open to comments and suggestions of any kind. This does not gaurantee I will do them. :p

I'm in. :)

Seeing as how I resurrected the second coming, I'll happily join in on this one as well.

It'd be interesting to see a Mildbrid race as well. Perhaps a stock Miata with an RX-7 RZ Roatary engine it?

Looking forward to it.

Interesting idea and I like the thought of it.

I don't have any experience with hybrids though, so if a "mildbrid" class is in the cards I will need someone to help me set the rules for it also.

I think I'll run a few times here, see if I can improve on my times in the original rotaries comp :)

Arcade RX-8,you do not believe it,Tuff, 1'23.279 :banghead:

The mazda rx7-infini lll starts with 219 hp.By driving it will increase the hp.Is that allowed?

I'm in but I don't have a sharkport thingy so just times for each sector is all I can provide.

Yes, oil changes and fully broken in cars are acceptable. All hp figures on the webpage that have a "?" are because my cars weren't fully broken in yet when I did a test run. I'll update the hp when I know exactly what the max works out to be.

@Blake,
Just save your replays in case there is a question.

I'll be formally starting this challenge in a few days. Feel free to post here until then.

Yeah I'll save them but there isn't anyway I can upload them without sending my memory card out -- and I'm not exactly willing to do that.

👍 "Hey Tuff240!" I thought I'd try a few laps in the Arcade 787B.....I have very little time in these lovely 'screaming wankels', but it's a nice little car to have some fun with at Medfield.

I ran a T-1 @ 17.873, T-2 @ 36.376, but scraped the wall coming up the hill toward the final straight away!

My current best lap is 6 tenths slower after the first two sectors, but on the last sector I picked it up a little.....

Best lap:

T-1 = 18.143
T-2 = 36.612
Lap = 59.957

I'll work on it some more.....maybe I can put three good sectors together eventually

Nice website you've made for this competition. :)

Here's a time I ran 3 days before this comp was posted :)

If you want me to run it again then! ... Tuff

Arcade 787B - 59.113

I'll jump in the 984hp again soon as It's been ages since I tried that monster here 👍

Laters.

@ Emp ... Long time no see mate, and good to see you still Racing ;)
Take it easy man

Give me a few days and I'll post times for arcade, 984hp and others possibly....

Ron- Ready for a showdown maybe.....;)

984hp - 1'00.060.....nah I'm joking that would be a very bad time in that car...so far thats my time with the arcade one.

That makes a total of 15 hot laps... I'm in.
I can also check PAL replays, though I have a very busy planning and I might be away from my PS2 for 3-4 days from time to time. If some delay in the replay checking doesn't matter I'll be happy to help.

Thanks for the demonstration that sometimes thousandths matter.
(Now that I laughed at your time, I just hope I don't run in 1'23.280 :scared: )

The hp stays at 219,must be a price car. Laptime 1'21.112.
Flat-out,I know you like numbers.Did you see it,only ones and two's.

I do LOVE numbers indeed.
But your time is unbalanced : there are more ones than twos.
1'21.212 would have looked better

Arcade - 59.597
984- 55.228 (i believe)

I ran 10 laps with each Arcade car tonight, and got 3 clean replays :
RX-7 type RZ : 1'22.544
RX-8 : 1'24.050
787 : 1'01.249

That'll already fill in some lines in the leaderboard, until I can run faster laps.

@ Sjaak : 1'23.280 is still possible :scared: !!

Flat-out,maby this will help.

"Hey guys and gals....thanks for the welcome!" I've been working long hours of late and just plain didn't have the energy to play the game.....I'm glad to see you all are still pushing the limits! :)

I'm determined to get back up to speed before the new game comes out.....I figure this is a good place to start. 👍 :)

Be sure I'll be chasing it.

BTW, I'm busy making a special garage with all 12 cars featured in this series. I'll check the cars default settings tomorrow and then post both NTSC and PAL versions of the garage.

After 5 laps in the RX-7 LM Race Car, my best ( 👎 ) is at 1'04.999 with a clean replay.

A suggestion about the rules.
What about displaying in the leaderboard all times, even dirty ones ?
I have in mind something similar to what Tosk does in Torc :
- green flag : 100% clean lap
- yellow flag : 3 wheels off the track or wall brushing
- red flag : when 2 yellow flags
- black flag : 4 wheels off the track or wall riding

In the leaderboard would be displayed first all green flags, from the fastest time down to the slowest one, then the yellow flags, the red flags and finally the black flags.
That can mean we have to double check all replays to make sure the flags are deserved ?

How about 100% clean or do it again till you get it right, thats the only rule that should ever be used in a spot like this.

Yes, that's the rule everybody uses all the time.
In an event with 15 possible races I think flagging the laps is a good way to have lots of times in the leaderboard early.
Then, when more people come in and practice, green flags will be the only ones left in the top 10 leaderdoard.

I will post my Arcade 787 replay for reviewing later today but I assure you! ..It's 100% clean and spotless 👍
my only problem with it is ... It doesn't beat Edmar on the database :D

Laters :)

I'm at 1'23.105 (clean replay available) using Sjaak's replay as a teaser.
BTW, you have plenty of time left on the first double right turn and on the second double right before the tunnel.

:dopey: 'Rusty Driver' tries some more laps in the Arcade 787B to get down to clean metal.....

T-1 = 18.061
T-2 = 36.361
Lap = 59.674

Starting to get a little more comfortable behind the wheel.... :nervous: :)

Here are 2 versions (PAL and NTSC) of the Rotaries garage which contains all 12 cars used in the challenge plus 3 bonus hybrids (Miatas with RX-7 or RX-8 braking system and engine).

Concerning the powers displays on the site, they are not completely accurate :

RX-7 Infini III (dealer car)
212 hp stock, 451 hp full modded, for 1068 kg

RX-7 type RS (prize car)
302 hp stock, 709 hp full modded, for 1088 kg

RX-7 type RZ (prize car)
304 hp stock, 709 hp full modded, for 1079 kg

RX-8 (prize car)
295 hp stock, 515 hp full modded, for 1068 kg

RX-7 LM Race Car (prize car)
600 hp stock, 979 hp full modded, for 1050 kg

787B (prize car)
724 hp stock, 984 hp full modded, for 830 kg

I'm well aware of what the rules for OLR are,ive been doing this for a long time.My sarcasm didnt come across right as i forgot to include a cute smilie   :ouch: :nervous:

Filling the leaderboard with bogus wall banging-lawnmowing times just to fill spots is a bad idea. 👎 Stick with quality over quantity
