Interview with a GM Employee about the Camaro VS Mustang

I don't know why they'd want to bring it over here really. The G8 flopped. Calling it a Caprice sounds like an old person's car to most people, and its likely too big and fat to have any redeeming performance.

Well the Caprice here is an upmarket Holden Statesman, so it pretty much is an old person's car. It's not that bad on the performance front though, if you get the V8 in it. It is a bit soft and wallowy to be a performance sedan though.

The G8 was based on the Holden Commodore and the higher-spec ones were the SS. The Statesman/Caprice is basically a luxury version of that.

Maybe, but not because it was a bad car. People that wanted them couldn't really afford them. The G8 was a great car.

The G8 was a good car, and you're right the people that wanted them couldn't afford them. GM didn't bother changing the car to fit the needs of the American market. It was sporty and a ton of fun...everything aimed at buyers 16-25...you know ones without $30k to drop on a car. Middle aged people who had the money didn't like the car because it was RWD (for snowy climates), uncomfortable as sin, and was weirdly priced.

The Caprice will be the same way, except people will associate the Caprice name with an inner city gang bangers car. I can't see it selling very well, especially when a Malibu will be similar enough and cheaper. The only people I can see buying this are diehard American car guys and those who can't afford a proper sports luxury sedan like a BMW.

And before someone chimes in with it, I think the only reason the Charger sells is that it looks really aggressive and rides nice. Based on the G8 I can't imagine the Caprice will ride nice at all, Australian cars seem to be built to handle rougher road condition that we don't really have here in America.

The average C3 Corvette (and probably also C2 - not many of these here) have really nasty panel gaps. You don`t have to look for them to find them.

Back on topic: I love the first gen Camaro and the first gen fastback (fastback only!) Mustangs. But these new, fat and ugly landyachts looks like cheap chinese knock off of those classics.
