Anyone catch this show on ABC?

--SPOILER ALERT--

I just finished tonight's episode where an unrelated incident releases disease carrying baboons. It just so happens that the town sheriff is in conjunction with the military in an attempt to cover up an alien encounter. Anyways, the townspeople don't know this and now they're demanding the quarantine to be lifted but now people are getting infected by the baboons and the quarentine is back on. Later on in the show, the sheriff finds out that one of the healthcare workers is the carrier of the disease who hasn't shown any symptoms, thus a reason for him to continue working while inadvertantly infecting his patients in his line of work. At the end of the show, the Sheriff confronts him wanting to talk to the healthcare worker as to why he's shown no symptoms (due to the hurricane/gov't coverup of an alien encounter) and that it's ok if the Sheriff talked to him because he himself is immune to the virus (because he works for the gov't)

Is he immune because he is a government employee or is he immune because he is possesed, or whatever it is, by the aliens in much the same way his wife and others have been? He seems to know what she is going through and keeps telling her that her feelings are normal. He makes it sound like he is discussing post-traumatic stress but just the fact that he had the fore-knowledge to put in a well at his house, and they seem obsessed with the water, tells me he is being controlled by aliens or he intended for his wife to be.

Perhaps the sheriff was one of the alien scouts and he married the head doctor at the hospital where the invasion would begin so he could always be one of the first to hear about any incidents and be able to intervene. Whatever the case may be, I don't trust the sheriff. The end of last night's episode convinced me of that.

Sounds about right. I mean, he's already established an understanding with the reporter about the encounter so why else would he still be portrayed like a double agent?

I think the sheriff was possessed before the hurricane.
I want to agree with this but I keep battling the question of when did it happen? He seems completely controlled or comfortable and not confused like anyone else. How long before the rest feel that way and no longer seem strange?

Was it when his wife died? They gave a link between the wedding ring and his first marriage. But it seems like his daughter woudl remember Daddy coming out of the swamps naked one day just like all these other people. Or was it before that and he had his first wife killed off so he could get in with the doctor?

The other question is: Was he possessed before his daughter was conceived? What does that make her? Could that also explain why people around her get attacked by the things in the water without her even being aware they are around? Is she half alien and doesn't know it?

OK, my head hurts now.

I'm starting to get ticked at this show. At first I thought it was going to be cool. Now I'm thinking it's just another "Signs", where we get a lot of tense sounding music and no payoff.

I'm getting to the point where I just don't care about anything that's happening in the show anymore.

I don't like the rerporter lady. I don't like sheriff's daughter. I don't like the kid that keeps trying to hook up with the sheriff's daughter. The teenage son is driving me nuts with poor acting (every single line is delivered with exactly the same tone). But I think the most irritating thing about the show is the lack of payoff.

Give me a reason to care about the metal boxes. Give me a reason to suspect that what's going on is the start of an invasion. Give me a reason to worry about the characters or to think that anything interesting is going on besides people being able to breathe underwater.

I'm not done with the show yet. They have a few more episdoes, but I'm getting dangerously close to calling it quits. As it is I have already slammed the door on Threshold.

I agree with you completely on this one. If it turns out to be someone's dad I am going to be PO'd. The sons exact same tone was even there when he yelled. If I have to listen to the little girl mention the lights one more time...

Anyway, have you tried Surface? I've already seen the thing there and even watched a big one swallow an entire fishing boat whole. Now it is all about teh government cover up and what they are and where they came from, but at least I have seen it. Unfortunately the acting and writing can be weak at points.

Surface is alright but its becoming repetative.

Anybody still watch this?
Yes. It is on after Lost so I just lay there and watch. It looks to be finally getting somewhere.

I just can't figure out why the Dad didn't want to take full custody when he foudn out they were both not quite human, especially knowing the tendancy of these things to kill their families and themselves in other towns.

It is almost as if everyone but Dave is in such denial that they refuse to do the cautious thing. Maybe I just have too much of a third-party viewpoint and expect them to do what I would with the knowledge I have, however the skeleton alone would be all I need.

Russell just needs to come clean with Larkin and at least save his marriage so that if and when they need to run she doesn't stand there stubborn as a woman can be and demand to know why. Show her the skeleton and make her promise not to report it until all the facts are known.

Anyway, have you been to the official website? It is http://www.didyouseethelights.com/ and is set up as Dave's blog. It is cool and adds a fun interface to the show. It isn't as fun as going on the online scavenger hunts for clues and separating them from the fan sites the way Lost is but it is cool nonetheless.
