Investing in a 3d LCD for GT5: Dont go to Comet.

Hi guys,

Just thought I would drop a note in this forum about a recent bad experience i have had with the UK electrical retailer Comet.

3 months ago my Sharp lcd television developed a hiss which i immediately reported, Comet have taken the television away 4 times to examine, I have had 2 on site engineer visits (2 days holidays used for that), 2 new main boards, and about 8 trips to my local comet which is 35 miles away.

And guess what, its still not fixed. Speaking to their customer services is the closest you can get to banging your head against a brick wall without actually doing it.

They were going to send an engineer out again but I told them not to bother as i have hooked up a pair of logitech PC speakers which mean i dont need to use the telly speakers.

I know alot of you might be investing in new 3d lcds for GT5 so just be warned, having researched the company on-line it would seem they have a horrendous customer service record and will do absolutely anything to avoid supplying a replacement or a refund. They were even investigated by trading standards due to the large number of customers complaints (according to their wiki page anyway)

From now on all my appliances will be bought from Tesco, who have never quibbled over anything I have had problems with.

Lesson learnt: Avoid Vomet, I mean Comet.

Why didn't you just return the TV? I wouldn't accept anything less than a refund at that point.

From what I have read Comet are a law unto themselves when it comes to the consumer rights.

I just cant be bothered with them anymore.

Just thought i would warn others.

Well, just have a receipt, read up on your rights and go over there and get a full refund. And then take that money and go elsewhere.

That product is defective and they should recognise it as so as they had so many engineer call outs and so on on paper (I hope).

Just go to the store with the television and get a refund. Get the manager if you have to. Could always threaten with police, although I don't think that would sort it out that well.....

Submerged.

I think all highstreet electrical retailers are. Currys are awful, for example. The best chance you get of a refund in there is when it's an idiot on the till and he/she can't be bothered to go through the ridiculous official process that head office has dictated to them.

John Lewis are probably about the only ones who really take care of you. And Richer Sounds, although annoyingly they're always in a location that you don't want to carry a 42 inch TV back to.

So you would reccomend john lewis then?, I have never actually thought about shopping for electricals in there.

If you get better service the slightly higher price would be worth paying.

Oh absolutely. I mean I've never returned anything to them, but they're widely regarded as having excellent customer service.

And, incidentally, they price-match any competitor (unless it's an online-only business like Amazon), so in theory it's not any more expensive in the first place. Not to mention that they usually extend guarantees on their electrical products for free - their TVs all have 5 year warranties from them directly, as I recall, and everything else I can find seems to have a 2 year warranty with it.
