Invisible Opponents Online?

I hate this so much, the guy is clearly there, but it keeps showing him as loading, the other people can see him, but not me.and so many times, on my screen i have won, but always forget about the invisible guy, which the game claims as winner.

What happens to me like 50% of the time when I try enter a server is, I get in and everything seems fine, I try to go to the track (even if I don't) and instead of, say, 8 cars on track there are only 3, and then I get disconnected. Everyone has the loading bar underneath there name. Sometimes this happens without a disconnect, but less often. I think I have only been able to join 6-7 games with more then 10 people racing without getting disconnected.

Its your net connection, or another players net connection setup incorrectly.

You must have -
NAT2 or better
PS3 in DMZ
UPnP On and available.

GT5 appears to be more sensitive to different connections than other games. If you can set a room to 'Fixed Host' that will sort out a lot of those issues. If the Fixed Host option isn't selected, the players must all have a clear connection to the net to have a trouble free race.

Its less about GT5 network and more about your own in house setup.

Wrong. Connection speeds/server loads have a lot more gravitas on this situation although a well setup home network is always a good idea. DMZ isnt.

This is just flat out not true.

I've experienced it, and heard from others with virtually every combination of wireless/wired/portforwarded/nat1,2,3/etc and the only link between them is that they are playing GT5.

for the sake of argument, if it is the fault of the people's settings, PD should have known this would happen and make sure it still works like every other game out there works. If I can play shooters and an MMO with no problem on my ps3, theres no viable excuse for GT5 not working online.

Ok, maybe I was a little blunt in my post, not leaving much description, but to claim it's flat out not true or wrong is a bit dismissive.

I had a few of the issues described early on my GT5 online play. Invisible cars, I myself was an invisible car and ruined a few players races. Didn't matter the size of the room, there was generally a few cases of it that occurred more often than I liked in online play. Not to mention disconnects and not being able to connect to rooms.

In my case, NAT 2 was showing and UPnP was enabled. I moved my PS3 into the DMZ and it fixed all my issues. (I had originally set it up like that but forgot to adjust it when I changed a few settings months prior) My other PS3 is in the same boat, but I use Port Forwarding rather than DMZ, that also works fine and is a more secure option than DMZ.

Since getting my modem/router setup correct, I have not had any issues, not a disconnect, not an invisible opponent, no issue connecting to rooms etc. So rather than flat out dismissing it being a settings issue, I suggest that you check your end, make sure your settings are correct and you have done everything in your power to make sure you have a well setup network.

At least this way you know any issues are outside of your control. Unfortunately there will always be someone who can't connect or can't play cleanly online, this is just the nature of the network with different hardware, ISP's and settings. Just don't take the theory that if game X works online, game Y should work the same.

"Just don't take the theory that if game X works online, game Y should work the same." Your last sentence says it all really and is practically why I dismissed your whole first post... seems as if maybe you just took this into affect lol

Port Forwarding should always be preferable over putting anything in DMZ outside your hardware firewall!
