iPhone 4S - GTP app not showing push notifications

Yeah, so long story short - I'm getting the e-mails just fine but the push notifications aren't working, they're enabled and should work just fine. I made a Forumrunner account as well when I enabled them.

I'm getting push e-mails just fine but can't get the GTP + book of Faces app to work, push notifications wise.

Any solution for this?

Probably a silly question, but are notifications turned on in your settings?
Edit: under Settings > Notifications there's a 'GTPlanet' option. Click it, and make sure all is as it should be, i.e., turned on.

I've just disabled and enabled them again - could someone send me a PM to see if it's working?

Right, so it's popping up at the top menu but not adding the red 1 near the app symbol - I know that's possible, too. Is that done through a plugin?

That can be sorted. Go into the 'GTPlanet' section in Notifications again, then turn 'Badge App Icon' on.

Actually, it was showing the email I got because of the PM. When I tapped on it, it opened the email app - shouldn't the GTP one open the GTP app directly?

Edit: just checked, the badges were enabled.

Edit: after all, it's looking to me that my phone is getting the push e-mail only, not the push notifications.

Are you on the latest version of the GTP app and the latest iOS?

I bought the phone yesterday and updated it wireless, using the settings menu. The GTP app is up to date, according to the app store, as well.

iOS: 5.1 (9B179)
GTP: 1.5.12

I've re-set the ForumRunner settings on their website, maybe that'll help.

To clarify, you aren't getting the push notifications from GTPlanet's app, Facebook's app, or any other apps that you're expecting (other than mail)? Assuming your push notifications are configured correctly, I'm not sure what the problem would be. ForumRunner, who currently manages the push notifications for GTPlanet, does appear to be working normally; I just received two such notifications while reading this thread.

Also, a notification of an email from GTPlanet and a push notification from the mobile app are two different 'things'. Opening the email notification will take you to your email app, while opening a GTP app notification will take you to the GTP app. You'll be able to tell the difference because one will be labeled with a mail icon, the other with GTPlanet's logo.

Indeed, I thought so, Jordan.

I'm just curious why it's not working at all. Facebook is a bit dodgy - on their website and on my old phone, a BlackBerry. So I doubt it's all better on iOS. However, the only reason for it not working fine could be that my SIM card is not active yet - the number is still being ported. It's currently online using Wifi but other people told me that shouldn't change a thing. Would it help if I attach screenshots of my settings?

Wait until your SIM card is activated. iOS prefers to use a device's cellular connection to receive push notifications instead of WiFi, so this may be the source of the problem. You could try putting the device into airplane mode, then re-enabling WiFi to see if this solves the issue.

As good as iOS' push notifications are, you will still find them to be a bit dodgy even once you're up and running. Apple makes their "best effort" to push them to your device, but the system is inherently unreliable by design.

I guess the BlackBerry devices caused me to think such stuff is always reliable if it's been built into the system.

Thanks Jordan, I'll update this thread once my SIM has been activated - scheduled for Saturday but well...it's France after all, so I won't rely on that. I'll leave the screens here for now.

They're a bit bigger than I thought...uh...well...I hope you'll forgive me, luckily it's "only" the support forum - not GT5 or something else that's extremely crowded.

So, shortly after I posted the previous message both FB + GTP notifications showed up - despite not having changed anything. Let's see if it's still working today.

Edit: alright, it's working now. Odd but well...as long as it's working. Cheers guys.

Edit 2: I think it's only working if I have e-mail notifications enabled as well. Ah well, who cares...it's working.

Edit 3: Now also working without mails, ace. Funny thing tho: it's counting. The first notification caused the red bubble with a 1 inside near the app icon. Now it reached 25...the next one should show 26, I guess.

This can happen sometimes; the badge count can be a bit flaky. To reset the number, log out of your forum account on the app, then sign back in.
