Maybe they don't deal with people who apparently break everything they touch? Try rubbing sandpaper on the screen and putting some Vaseline in the connector port. Should help it.

Recent Apple products have been suffering from Penny-made syndrome, my 4GS included.

Did you try holding down both buttons for 5 seconds? That's the reset protocol.

Does your computer even acknowledge that the iPod is plugged in?

I've never ever had a problem with Apple's customer service... Its very simple. Call back and see what happens. If what you tried isnt working I'm not sure why posting at GTP was a plan of action. I seem to think both the Apple forums and Google likely have more answers than you'll find here.

No does not

Try letting the battery completely discharge, charge it fully (don't turn it on and leave it for a long, long time), turn it on and see what happens. If that doesn't work, try restoring it with iTunes. If THAT doesn't work, resetting still doesn't help and Apple still won't help then you're pretty much out of luck. These things aren't designed to live forever.

Edit: when I say 'completely discharge', I don't mean leave it for weeks because if it's a Lithium Ion battery it might refuse to charge again due to risk of painful explosions. My MacBook went two weeks without battery and now doesn't charge at all.
