Irreversible tuning options (engine stage + weight reduction)??

When started the game I would do them in a heartbeat and tune the **** out of most cars.

Nowdays I find myself hardpressed to do anything irreversible (engine stage + weight reduction) like the car's original character will be lost forever..

It's insane because a lot of these cars you can buy again easily but still I am hestitant.. On the more rare ones from UCD I cannot even think about it!! :crazy:

Tuning upgrades in general has become much more of a 'necessary evil' process rather than giving me any satisfaction any more (like it used to be in the beginning).

Anyone else in the same boat?
 
Yes, I have a Ferrari 458 which I modded slightly for B-Spec Bob.... hurt to do so, and can't remember if I did reversible changes or not... but it will never be a stock 458 again, I will only get that by buying another one.
 
I kind of wish that there was a way to disable these changes, just like you can most other tuning options. Yes, I realise this is impossible in real life, but this isn't real life it is a game and therefore doesn't necessarily have to suffer the same limitations.
 
100% in that boat with you dawg. The only cars I tune are those that I for some reason want to or if I must, and never the irreversible stuff if I can avoid it. Like you said, I feel like it gets away from the true character or something.

RM's are a different story of course 👍
 
Is there a way to take a carbon bonnet off? It wasn't listed as irreversable when I did it but I couldn't find a way to get rid of it.
 
I'm honestly still not sure why some of these things aren't reversible. For instance .. the hood. It's simple to change a hood. 4 bolts on most cars. For the weight reductions, sure you're not going to put the items you've removed back in, but you could easily use ballast to make weight. That's done in motorsports often. The glass is the only one that would really be difficult to get around as switching to a lexan or similar required modification to mount it and is not easily reversible.

I think a great option would be to have the ability to add a certain amount of ballast to the car if it's under weight ... maybe in 10kg increments or something. that way you don't disqualify a car you love from a race becasue it's 2k under the limit.
 
I even thought buying racing soft tyres on every car was cool...

Now I try to keep the original tyres so I can experience how PD meant each car to handle.

So I guess lap times don't mean so much anymore for me, but truly "mastering" a car the way its meant to be is the real deal.
 
I also hate this issue.... I forced myself to upgrade for bob in B-spec but I lost the beauty of a stock Lambo and Ferrari.
 
I'm still finding the physics model in GT5 to be quite dull & tame compared to Prologue & the 2010 GT Academy Demo, so much so that most tuning options just seem to make the various cars handling even more bland (with the exeption of adding power & reducing weight of course).

Changes that can't be undone don't bother me at all, I'll just buy 2 cars & keep 1 stock if it's fun to drive, that way you can have your cake & eat it.

My irreversibly tuned cars, well the Gallardo and 458 have been joined by stock versions (which payed for themselves grinding some money at Rome). Fortunately with the Gallardo it was a prize car so my irrevesibly tuned original did not need a stock purchase.
 
I like the fact that the tuning options are a little bit more thoughtful for these irreversible mods. I find that it can be a bit monotonous to buy a car and tune the same exhaust, carb converter, cpu etc.

Anyway, i think i prefer my cars lightly tuned. They all lose their character when souped up too much.
 
I don't do anything that's non-reversible to any car...unless I'm creating a purpose-built street rod like my high HP, ultra light '69 Cougar... which I would do IRL. :D
 
I'm the same, I leave my cars stock. When you 300hp to a Ferrari, it stops being a Ferrari, it's something else. I also stick with sport tyres on street cars, slicks turn the cars into karts of various sizes. zzzzzz
 
Weight reductions have always been irreversible in Gran Turismo. I would agree that it would be awesome if we could at least put an original hood back on (if we don't like the carbon one for whatever reason), hopefully this will be solved via DLC.

NA tunes, on the other hand, used to be reversible. But that was because (in the past games) a Stage 1 tune represented a thinner head gasket, different exhaust manifold, and different engine management tuning. Stage 2 was also stuff that could be reversed. Different cams, springs, and other lightweight parts.

In GT5, I'm forgetting what Stage 1 is, but Stage 2 represents engine balancing (crankshaft balancing, among other things), which has always been irreversible.

My solution is to buy a second car if I can. Mod the heck out one car, and leave the other one more stock (or at least with the irreversible stuff not applied yet).

If you buy the unpainted carbon hood and want to go back to stock, buy the painted version. You'll still have the hood pins, but otherwise the car will appear to be stock.

Interestingly, you cannot own both hoods at the same time. I accidentally bought an unpainted hood for my Miata, and bought the body color hood to get the painted finish back. The unpainted hood is no longer on my tuning screen, so I can't switch between the two.
 
Oh for cars that aren't allowed hood replacements, you can still buy them.

It even tells you, this part isn't available, buy anyway? errr no.

and in reality, you would rarely rebuild a heavy tuned car into a stock car.

Same for the engine. If the engine, especially the engine block is customized, there is no chance to rebuild it.

It was for weight purposes I wanted to take mine off, so switching between them wouldn't help. I wanted to reduce the weight for a set limit and stupidly did the bonnet first, so when doing the more significant reductions it came slightly too far under. Taking the bonnet off back to stock would've solved it, but alas I couldn't.

An option to buy a new stock engine could be there though, so you could switch between your modified block and your standard engine.
 
I'm trying to never use racing tyres on anything below 500hp as they are too much, no aids needed and not much skill sometimes.

I will dupe if need to ruin a car by overtuning, I don't have the time for grinding (baby and wife!) to find the cash to buy two.
