I have always gone with gripping. It is just the natural way to drive for me. I have done some drifting on some other racing game and I vaguely remember how I did it, but I can remember it was fun and I was doing well with it. My question is this, if not for the fun of doing it, is it worth learning to drift if you just want the fastest race times? Anyway, I am going to try drifting tonight on GT3 for the first time. So I just wonder your oppinion on this. Is gripping or drifting the fastest or are they both equal. (Btw, you could explain your answer by talking about the average driver in driving in both and the best in both.)

I used to be a fanatic grip driver, I Have 40 000 miles and more on GT3 and I just started drifting. Oh my god! I'm now completly hooked back to Gt3, It gives you an adrenaline rush when your on the point of spinning but your counter steer just at the right time but you give too much gaz and you shave the side of the track..Woah!

No, it is not worth learning to drift if you want the fastest lap times.

This might not be the forum to say that, but then again, I'm always open for a challenge. :trouble:

re1987, welcome to the gtp.
I'm Kent, the Weekly Race Series organizer.

I race pretty fast but I'm still not the top dog by any stretch of the imagination. :(

However, I have to be honest, I am fast and I am legitimate (I use a replay device called an xport to download my replays to the net and let other members see the laps I'm putting down).

So,
From my perspective I would have to say drifting is for nothing more than having fun.

If you want to race and do it fast, run with race settings (grip racing).
If you want to fool around and watch your car pull interesting laps go with drifting.

But seriously, do not use drifting to go fast!

For any driver of any skill level there is no advantage when driving with drift settings.

Now on a final note...
If any of you drifters want to make me eat my words then just come over to the wrs for our next arcade race... Drive your drift race and I will drive my grip race... The results will say all that needs to be said. :trouble:

btw, re1987, if you want to come over to the wrs and test your skills feel free. :D
(look in my sig to find your way there ;) )

^ what kent said.

Hey thanks for your oppinion. It is as I suspected. Anyway, I wan't to try the drifting right away. Anyway, I will also check out the WRS.

Drifting is very much worth it! For fun and development of control of your car. It can help to develop your grip skills. But you won't go faster then grip. Just a fact of physics.

well, i use both driving styles when i race. there are just some turns i could take faster drifting through it, and there are some turns that just have to be gripped. i think itd be best to get the most out of both driving styles, and apply those techniques to your lap times. thats just my opinion though.

drifting is sexy.
grip is also fun.

if i ever get bored drifting, i change back to grip ;]

alksdjflk whatever. gt3 is fun.

hmm... Haven't been here in awhile.. Anyway this has been gone over before.. Grip = faster times Drift= for show.

I would have to agree with swift drifting does help you with controling you car. If you practice drifting then switch to grip you will have a better understanding of when your car will break loose under certain conditions. If you know the point where your car will break loose then you can push your car to that limit without breaking traction.
I personally like both but I found that after drifting I could control my grip cars better and push them harder and that helped decrease my grip race times.

Someone please close this and next time use the Search Button..I seen a thread like this but it bring alot of flames.

while grip was good for actually progressing in the game, i lost interest after completing. then i started drifting and its got me hooked again and i cant stop playing :D

This topic has been quite well beaten and the full discussion has already been noted.

What you're asking is similar to comparing Snowboarding and Skiing. Both are done on the snow, but are two entirely different sports. Each in their own element, and each have their advantages. Portions and aspects of each can be used tween the two, but are ultimately two different things.
