I read a few comments a while back saying that Drive club was originally going to be branded as a GT game, just as forza has the horizon series. is this true? I will say the comments weren't claiming anything, so I really don't know, but does anyone else know anything?

(not sure if this is the right sub-forum, but its related to GT so...)

Apparently so. It is said the proposal was put to Kaz who wanted none of it. GT is PDs pride and joy so it became DriveClub.

I'm really looking forward to it. It looks great fun, has a deep photo mode while the graphics and sound are wonderful. The dynamic weather shown at Gamescom is stunning.

That's actually pretty cool. too bad PD declined it though, because i bet it would have revived allot of GT's fan-base.

In fact, its pretty weird that PD declined it. seems counter intuitive almost...

I'm glad PD declined, They only would have ruined it as they have with the past 2 GT games, Maybe having a rival game on the same system will make PD sit up and stop fannying about with pointless things and instead giving the gamers what they want.
How would it ruin it?

i just had a look at some of drive-clubs footage and Jesus Christ above it looks real! i am in genuine awe at the realism displayed in these few videos! and it doesn't look to arcady either! the cars aren't constantly drifting! but seriously, watching the video, as it transitioned between some different footage, i genuinely thought that it was real footage, and they were going to give a graphics comparison, but then no 'In-game footage' header came up, and :lol:

I think he means PD would have ruined Driveclub, not Evolution Studios ruining Gran Turismo. I think he's right too, Evolution Studios could have helped out with GT a lot, especially in the sound department.

But Kaz is gonna Kaz by retaining standard cars, awful sound samples, bad AI and a mediocre online/connectivity system.

Drive club certainly looks the part.
I fear however for the physics, Evolution themselves said it will be more arcade.

We can only hope that PD can make the same eyecandy on PS4

I think a GT title with 'arcade' physics, not actually developed by PD, would be detrimental to GT's image, especially here. We'd have cries of 'It's not a real GT' and 'Kaz has gone mental' etc, which I would partly agree with tbh.

Who said they would have gone with arcade physics if the two companies collaborated? Evolution Studios have made simulation racing games before. Even if they did go a bit more arcadey, Forza Horizon doesn't seem to have destroyed the Forza franchise image at all, infact many people are pumped for Forza Horizon 2.

Also, Gran Turismo has dipped into arcade territory a number of times - Arcade mode in GT1 had huge jumps inserted into some tracks, Cape Ring in GT5/6 has an arcadey loop and jump in the middle of the track, GT5 Prologue had an arcade physics setting, all those countless seasonal events with SRF (arcade handling) forced on, the fact SRF is even an option in the game is an arcade factor, the Toyota Pod Race, starting 30 seconds behind the leader in literally every race is reminiscent of old arcade games rather than a simulator, etc.

Gran Turismo is known for it's large roster of cars and simulation.

Driveclub has 51 cars (I may be wrong but it's around that) and it's an arcade game, everything opposite to what GT is.

Regardless, I'm excited to play Driveclub and i think the game was hugely inspired by Gran Turismo.

I just watched a new gameplay video and I have to agree about not getting it. Nice graphics but it looks like a very dull game overall.
I don't know about that, it looks pretty exciting to me...
DC & GT are 0% simular to each other. Ain't gonna buy DC either.
if you don't have GT, then why are you here? :odd:

There's tons of members on here who don't have GT. Guess you haven't noticed the sub forums for other games.
I wasn't necessarily referring to the entire forum, I was referring to the GT6 sub-forum, or even this thread.

Well, I knew it would be an arcade racing game but it suddenly struck me how dead the physics seem to feel. Even for slicks, it looks too planted on the road. Time will tell but I suspect it's one of those pretty looking yet unsatisfying games that tend to come out early on in a console's lifecycle.

i do have it, my english just lets me down sometimes and thn i don't really know which word to use :P
Oh ok. i just thought you were one of those people who hangs around GTP just to criticize PD and whoever plays it. ;)

I remember some news article about Driveclub car handling are refined to feel the same as the "real car".

Driveclub is an arcade game.

well im pretty sure every racing game ever has claimed to have realistic handling. I mean grid2 did, and I hated the handling physics in that game!

Well thing is if the handling at driveclub turns out to be not realistic, im not much complaining since its an arcade game. Grid on the other hand is closer to sim. So its very disappointing to have bad handling.

Did you not play the first two Motorstorm games on the PS3 that were made by Evolution Studios? They were amazing, as in one of the best racing games ever made. Motorstorm MV came out in the PS3's first year and the sequel came out soon after.

I played the first one, which was bundled with my first PS3. It's a perfect example of the kind of game I think Driveclub may be, although on a higher level. I stopped playing it after two days because I got kind of bored with it, much like I felt when I got World Rally Championship for PS2. I think WRC4 for PS2 was a great game though, so I have my reasons to suspect that Driveclub won't be much more than their first attempt at PS4 decency. I hope I'm wrong but I just don't feel the hype anymore.

Dude, no way :( Did you not try it online? MSMV and MSPR had the most fun, intense and frustrating online racing I've ever played. Nothing has come close to it for me and I'm primarily a sim racing fan rather than an arcade racing fan. I took part in organised tournaments that ran for months on that game (still never recieved my prize for winning an unofficially sponsored one though), those moments and emotions will never be forgotten, it was like no other. If you didn't get into the online part and add some decent racers to your friend's list there then you mised out big time in my opinion.

I do kind of feel the same as you in a way however, I don't think DC will be as good as those days but that's because it's a different type of racer, it has far fewer risks and random circumstances. Whoops, I'm drifting way off topic.

How come all the open world racing games have to be arcady?

They should make one like a real world driving simulator and also allowing you to have spectacular massive crashes.
