Is game save data is (c) protected? [COMFIRMED]

YES game is copy protected! no more lazy people. This time you have to earn it people!

I don't think many of the concerns discussed here have anything to do with laziness. Rather, they have to do with fear of losing hours and hours of game progress since we are currently prohibited from backing up our save games.

This issue also has other side effects. It will mean you can't easily use more than one username. I know many on here have a GTP username as well as some other username. Also you can't get several PS3 setups and and have friends over and all race together very easily. You'd have to manually create a fully completed game save for each system.

You are showing your ignorance. The games I have read about where saves were/are copied have nothing to do with copy protection, but because the save was not tied to a PSN ID. Comments like this are not useful and as mentioned earlier your copy protected save may well bite you very hard.

I'm gonna laugh so hard when you come crying because your PS3 died and you have to start over.

If I sound ignorant or not, its how it is.
OK lets say PS3 save data copy works..
In first place how the heck I will know my PS3 will die lets say tomorrow night and I did not copy any data tonight.. it will be lost aways.

So too bad, but in the end I am happy no one will be sharing save data with all GOLD licence, all 100% completions and all 1000+ cars.

Priority number one, patch this!

GT5 is not a game that you play five hours and then shelve it. Countless hours of time will be put in this. And if your PS blows up, everything is gone.

:scared: Imagine Thousands of hours lost!! :nervous: :ouch:  :grumpy: :guilty: :yuck:

I used to back up all my saved game data at the end of the month, but after the trophy's update and copy protected game saves its pointless.

Instead I will now have to go and spend $50 on a hard drive so I can do a full HDD back up incase of failure.. This way I won't lose a year worth of data, only a month or two. -_-

I don't know a whole lot about the ps3. So would buying another HDD and doing some sort of backup save us if our ps3 were to die? I'd be willing to do that even though it's expensive. $50 is worth the countless hours wasted.

You really do seem to miss the point others and myself have made.

If the save is tied to your PSN ID then it cannot be transferred to someone else even without copy protection.

Now do you understand ?

I remember Motorstorm Pacific Rift went through a similar situation; ie the community were upset at corrupted saves (in that case caused by online problems).

The game's developers (Evolution) acknowledged it, and brought out an update to tie the save to the PSN account and removed copy protection so that everyone could then backup up saves.

Polyphony: are you listening ?

It will work. But only on the exact same PS3. The saves will not work on another PS3. If the HDD crashes and will be replaced, its ok. But if your PS3 gives up and you buy a new one or get a new one because of warranty, the backed up saves won't work.

Thing is, even if the saves were PSN ID locked, you could easily cheat by multiplying the save and sending yourself (your other ID) cars to infinity. Im guessing thats the reasong its like this now.

But they definitely need to do something about it, some better way of protecting cheating... because losing the save after months of playing... damn

I don't care if some geek on the other side of the planet has a billion and one cars, I want to keep my save in a safe place on my PC.

👍 I agree, I just want to protect the hours I have\will put into the game. I have already suffered 3 game freezes while doing licence tests, luckily I haven't suffered any corruption.

Comfirmed. :(

OP thanks for updating the first post.

Is it possible to be more clear what works and what does not work.

1) This concerns only game save data. Not race save data, right.
2) This concerns that you can not copy from one PSN to another PSN.
Looking at how all is linked to your home page, your online, etc... I'm not surprised.
3) If you use the same PSN on the same system, after HD drive crash: not clear to me.

I am almost a lv 16. My parents PS3 was the first to get GT5. BUT, I cannot take it with me when I go home. Sucks, but its what we got. Oh, well 12 hours of game play.

Tried searching for an answer but couldn't find anything.

I'm using a phat PS3 right now, but might be looking to switch to a slim (to save space, power, etc but more importantly, find a bit of insurance in case my phat decides to die).

With the Data Transfer Utility, can I transfer EVERYTHING (GT5 copyrighted save and all) to a slim? If I do end up getting a slim and do the transfer, I risk losing everything on my source (phat) PS3 and could end up finding out the hard way that my GT5 save didn't go through.

Sony says that it won't, but I know better than to trust the usually vague Sony. Thx.

- Sony is the one who keeps you from copying the save game data.
- You can buy 'protection' from lost save game data at Sony.

It's the Italian way.

Its not locked to the psn id I tried this last night!

I Have my own ps3 at uni level 17,
Came home last night logged in as my psn id on my brothers ps3 and have to start from scratch!
