Have you ever play Tekken4 or Burnout in PS2.Those games have 480P mode.

PSM magazine asked Yamauchi during an interview if GT4 will be "High-definition." He said no. I say this knowing that 480p is a standard digital tv signal, but the staff of PSM magazine doesn't know that. They have mistaken those games you listed as being HD games.

GT4 will have the 16:9 aspect ratio again, though. That's good news for us HDTV set owners.

I thought only 720p and 1080i were considered High Definition? Hmm... 480 is (I think) what most DVD players will do.

This all refers to the number of vertical lines displayed - I think normal TV is like 240 or somethin. That's why it looks like poo on huge screen TVs while DVDs and such look better.

I don't need it, nor anybody else for that matter who has a HDTV set. Most of them have deinterlacers that convert all images to 480p.

From what I understand, the PS2 can do 480p for video games that support it, but not for DVDs. A progressive DVD player upgrade is on the way most likely after Sony released a PS2 machine recently that has a 480p DVD driver.

You are correct, 720p and 1080i are the only true HD formats that are being used today. Actually, the lines can be as little as 540p and 810i and still be considered as HD.

No, you are incorrect here.

Regular, or analog, TV broadcasts are 480i. That means 480 lines horizontal and 640 lines vertical per frame displayed in a format that is split into two fields, 240 x 640. The odd lines are displayed first, then the evens. The split image is interlaced together to make a solid picture frame. This is what the i in 480i stands for. Interlacing two images together makes the image very, very blury and causes a lot of color bleeding, but there are 480 lines.

Standard-definition digital TV is 480p. There are no interlaced frames. The lines are shot in a progressive format. Yep, the p in 480p stands for progressive. So, the images are bright, colorful and more sharp than 480i.

Standard DVD is 480i, and most TVs are at least 500 lines of resolution, but some smaller TVs are as small as 330. VCRs have about 190 to 240 lines of resolution, but S-VHS VCRs have 480, or more.
