Is GT5 Best Karting Simulator?

If you ignore the speed shown on the HUD while driving karts in gt5 then its pretty accurate to real life but karts aren't standardized I've been to some karting venues tried a few karts that were all supposed to be the same but they felt vastly different, could have been tyres amount of fuel or even engine wear who knows, point being whip knows what karts the ones in gt5 are based on and further than that whose actually rode one, if you haven't comparing them is pretty much pointless.
Edit: I love the karts in gt5, some of the closest and most enjoyable races I've had online have been in karts.
I also love karting IRL been countless times to turn up and drive type karting venues.

I don't know, I was racing karts out door last week, and aside from the crazy speeds they get to in the game. They felt related in the way they turned.

No need of shifters karts, just that a competition kart doesn't feel like that. I've been driving karts since I was a kid, not those heavy and protected karts, the professional ones and here there isnt a feeling of acceleration, they are just too slow. And well, let's talk about the braking... Since when if you press brakes in a go-kart you doesn't get a block of the rear wheels? In GT5 you feel that there's ABS acting in the 4 wheels.

You do realize they have ONE gear, And yes gt5 is very realistic when it comes to karts.. only people who drive teh kidy ones say no, ive driven the real deal and yea if you accelerate in a turn the things spin out .. POS go karts my only real gripe is the ABS is like on all four wheels =D

After playing 'Project C.A.R.S', the karts in GT5 are sickening to drive.
They are dull, understeery, and put no force through the wheel at any point.
The reverse gear is not the big issue, it's the ability to drive the track backwards with no problem using rear wheel steering.

I've tried driving the karts backwards, its harder than it looks.
Really PD should have disabled reverse on karts and when the player drives into a wall and needs to go backwards a little animated Kaz in overalls could come running out of the pit lane to pull your striken kart from the tyre wall so you could then continue on with your race, just like IRL.

Thank you too. Again this is what the thread was intendet for. And how gt5's compares to RL. This looks better than the first sugestion maybe its just the track that shows the physich(sorry for my english) engine better(and typing). I was driving on a great raugh tarmac trac in Pula and eifel simulates that veary good for exampel.

Ok so i havent driven a racing kart nor im saying youre wrong or anything but i drove a lot of different 2 stroke engines and none of them behaved as you described but the other way around. for example i drove Aprilia RS 250 (30hp) and at first I thought there was something wrong with it but then it throws you off the bike vhen it pick up the revs. And thats the general characteristics of 2 stroke. What you described is how diesel engine without a turbo typically behaves. Maybe the kart you drove had some clutch or a short gear. Watch similar karts as in gt on youtube start from a standstill

Drove 125 Rotax, Rotax Max (which pushes a bit more at high revs), X30, KF3 XTR and a 50Cv wankel kart and all of those pushed a lot at low revs (there was even wheel spin with the Wankel) and were bit more moderate at high revs. Maybe is the way engine is configured, dunno but GT5 karts relate more to "commercial" ones than to competition ones.

I raced 100CC direct drive (no clutch and one gear) at a fairly high level for a several years and can say that GT5 definitely has the acceleration of the 100CC karts way off. My motor use to rev to 17,000 rpm and a common sight with new drivers was to see their head snap back under acceleration until they got used to it, it was that fast. The motor SCREAMED!! I've seen the Project Cars demo video for 250CC superkarts and it looks much more realistic and sounds more realistic too.

Wow, I don't know why this has to be even said, but one flaw does make a sim realistic or not. I mean seriously, do think netkar pro or iracing are flawless?
Plus, how much of a flaw is it really? I assume a kart can't actually go that fast in reverse but if it could, who can say it couldn't be driven like that if it weren't for the likely kneck injury?
It's this type of nitpicking that makes GTplanet one of the most pessimistic and miserable forums I've ever seen. Or are you trolling?
