Is GT6 worth its price tag?

I'm still asking myself whether to buy this right now. I'm thinking of trading in F1 2013 & GTA V in order to buy GT6. This is the first time I've not bought a Gran Turismo game on release day. I'm particularly a fan of online competitive racing & seasonal events, as I have been a past racing driver.
So, is it worth the money? Should I trade in those games?

It depends. In my opinion it is, but I would stretch out those two games until i find no fun in them.

The Formula GT in Gran Turismo is no more realistic than the F1 cars in Codemasters games. I say that as someone who hated F1 2012 and didn't like F1 2013 much either (alteast not the modern cars). The problem with Gran Turismo is that the physics engine works really great on street cars and on the lower grip tyres and is without a doubt a much more complex and complete physics engine than what Codemasters use, but by the time you're in the high downforce/grip stuff it starts to get a little funky, or well a lot funky!...

The F1 cars in Codemasters are "believeable" but not realistic in a simulator sense, The Formula GT (which is some sort of 2004 F1 car on slick tyres) in Gran Turismo is a bunch of numbers thrown into a physics engine that gives strange results. It's still good fun, but it feels cheap and plastic compared to one of the real F1 simulations (Simraceway, iRacing, Ferrari Virtual Academy).

If you don't give a crap about any of what I just said then we're in luck, because the street cars drive beautifully in GT, the physics engine in GT6 is a massive step forward (especially the suspension!) and it's in my eyes a driving experience that takes a massive turd on GT5, FM4 and pretty much everything else before it on the consoles.

Sadly the AI in GT6 is like driving against a bunch of half drunk amateurs who seem to think that braking hard halfway around a corner is great technique, so don't be surprised if you find yourself passing a BMW M3 on the outside of a corner in your Renault Clio. But the AI can be nice guys, in the spirit of competition they will slow down for you on the last lap to allow you to catch up, which is nice because often enough you will be starting the race from last place in your Renault Clio, racing BMW M3's and Corvettes where the leading car will be 10 seconds ahead before you're even started.

So if you're used to the AI in Codemasters where you can choose the difficulty up to the point where they will race professional times you will be disapointed, GT6 does not have an AI option in Career mode, in Arcade mode it does but it doesn't appear to do anything, they are still crap.

Now you might think "oh but I want to race online". Sadly the game forces you to play the career until you have got your National A licence, which also requires you to race a good few events, and that aside you will have no money (unless you do the glitch, then you will have money, lots of money).

Should you get the game? I think yes because it will be an excellent online racer, especially in the street cars. The content updates coming every month will mean this game has a good lifespan (unlike Codemasters F1) and despite my issues with the game I think it's pretty great. Can't tell you if you should trade in your games (I wouldn't) but I do think it's worth the buy

PS. Clutch doesn't work properly if you plan to use it.

PSS. I see in your avatar you're driving a Kart. Gran Turismo 6 has Karts. As someone who raced karts myself when I was younger... don't expect too much from the GT6 Karts!

I personally love GT... the only games that I probably got more hours out of was Diablo II and Madden series as a whole... definitely worth the $60... by the time I'm done playing, it'll cost me like $.0000001/hr of fun...

Frankly, GTA V was a huge let down for me. The online, after rockstar made earning money a ridiculous grind was pointless for me. I still have it. I should've thought about selling GTA to pay for some of GT6 actually!

On topic, I bought the anniversary edition. First time I bought a special edition. For me, worth it. Getting used to tuned cars on DS3 is very difficult, however. GTByCitroen tuned on High speed Ring seemed a bit overdone on the old oversteer with RH tyres, but there is a lot of fun to be had in GT6. Might be better to wait until GT6 is both cheaper and updated, however.

PS. The Karts in my opinion, are awesome. The shifter kart is so much fun! Might not be realistic but I fail to care when it's as much as it is!

Honest opinion wait till its either cheaper, or a complete game with patches, Some people have completed it in less than a week so its lacking content, Like @ameer67 said bugs and glitches galore, Some of the physics is way off, No proper endurance events I could go on.

It could be worse... we could all be "playing" Battlefield 4 now...

If you are finished with GTA I'd say: sure!, otherwise GTA will last you much longer then GT6.

But GT6 is easily worth getting, I think it's far superior to GT5 in every way :)

Hey guys, Don't mean to high jack the thread. But i must ask, why the hell is GT6 not for PS4???? I cannot believe this. Does this mean i now have to wait 5 more years until GT7 comes out? I am really bummed by this.

Don't worry, Kaz said GT7 (for PS4) could be as close as "whitin a year" :)

I have bought 3 new games this year:

GTA V Special Edition - £60 - Worth it IMO.
F1 2013 Classic Edition - £45 I think - Not worth it
Gran Turismo 6 Anniversary Edition - £60 - Not worth it, not yet anyway. Game feels rushed, half finished whatever you want to call it so am hoping future updates will fix the many many issues I have with it in it's current form.

PD is saying that they are already working on GT7 and it might come out next year if im not mistaken for the PS4.👍

Edit: Tree'd

I just got my Limited Edition Preroder GT6 copy several hours ago ( got the Apex book and 20 cars + credits ) :) I love it, drove stock Pagani Huayra in arcade time trial at Bathurst - using comfort medium tire and no aids including ABS brake assist. The new physics alone is worth the price.

I was going to purchase the Anniversary edition but I don't like the idea of paying a further £20 on a game. DLC should be interesting for the future though.

Cheers for the responses guys, very much appreciated. I'm obviously more interested in the physics more than anything else in the game, as I hope it can be as close to realism as possible.
Another question: Is there going to be PD online championships or are users going to create these? I really hope online is much, much better than it was in GT5

Well it have to be an amazing game if I had felt that I already have got my money's worth in the few days that I have had it. However, I do feel quite optimistic that I will do so!

The new tracks are very welcome additions, and I am enjoying the game much more than I thought I would (having played GT5 on and off for 3 years, I was slightly concerned that GT6 would not feel like a new game ... to me it does feel like a new game)

It feels to me a better game than GT5 did initially, and look how much GT5 improved and was supported throughout the last 3 years or so. GT6 needs to same amount of effort though, we always knew that we are getting an incomplete game, and with the expected stream of improvements I am looking forward to continue playing this over the next period of time until GT7 is released.

Having a garage of cars is useful as it seems as though credits are not so easy to come by - certainly in the early stages. I would suggest either buying the Anniversary Edition, being patient with a bit of grinding or if it is still possible for the credit trick.

It still has standards so IMO...No. It is nice to see the standards have been improved for GT6. AND you can even take them to the photo travel in. That's great news for sure. But I still just cant justify paying full price for GT6 since its still an unfinished game. If it had over 1,000 premiums, then it would probably be a day 1 purchase for me. I still plan to rent it, maybe over the Christmas holiday.

When you are really looking for the best physics and online racing you might will be disappointed. Physics are much improved over GT5 but if you take close look at titles like iRacing or Assetto Corsa it's not even playing in the same league.

Online mode hasn't improved at all, some features are even missing (like shuffle racing)

I can't afford to play iRacing or Assetto Corsa, as my PC isn't good enough and not even close that's why I have to play GT's or other console racing games.I was expecting the online to live up to the hype.

Ok, then imo it's worth the money just for the improved physics. I think it's the best on consoles available and not bad at all.

Online hype I must have missed :p

I did a few races online, but the lobby system and settings looks almost the same as in GT5

Adstomko,

What did you not like about online before? Knowing what those short comings were, will make the feedback more constructive for you.

There seemed to be a lot of lag in most rooms & the service wasn't particularly 'user friendly.' I don't know what PD can specifically do to improve it, but there's definitely a way around it

Absolutely! GT5 was worth the price tag... GT6 is basically GT5 2.0S. It has a ton of cosmetic updates and upgrades. I do not regret shelling out anoher $60. It provides endless entertainment and I wil be playing it for year probably... until GT7 comes out on PS4 in 2015 or something.
