Earlier this morning, I was literally grinning to myself, in last place for 2 races; losing has never felt so good.

Why? Because I am slowly learning to drive, really drive, these wonderful cars PD has given me, which I would be lucky to even see in real life.

Now with ABS off, manual gears (I know, I know, I should have made the transition sooner :-) ), I am really starting to "feel" the true greatness of the simulation.

So, what's the point of this thread? Well, I have had the game for a year, and possibly driven around 500 hours, offline. First racing to get cars, and money, etc, then slowly the game has evolved into simply enjoying the driving, full stop. Peeling back the layers of the wonderful engine, and getting more and more "in tune" with the various beasts of the cars we have on offer.

Does anyone know of any piece of gaming software which offeres better value for money? I cannot even guess how many more wonderful hours of driving this will hold my attention for.

And I'm talking off-line games. I can't think of anything myself :)

(really its a big THANK YOU to PD for their achievement, hidden under the guise of a question about VFM ;-) )

PS... I can start to imagine why PD have cars which you can't really race with like the Ferrari F1s or the Vettel. They are there for those who love to toy with cars, test them out on the practice runs (I am finding I am using the practice runs more than anything, avoiding the other AI drivers). Once I have really got to grips with the driving model, maybe in a couple of years or so, Ill get into the online side, LOL.

I would say: Dirt 3 or GTA IV( not really a driving simulater but it is a fun game)
Or I would say Blur and Splitsecond. Even they are old games its still fun too play online or offline.

I think GT4 was the best value.
played it for years, it was the only PS2 game I played on my PS3.
Even when I had GT5p

But GT5 is still good valeu for money There are not that many games I still play every day after a year.

Dirt 3 is pretty expensive, not best value for money. GTA IV could be a bit, but isn't the best.

Blur and Split Second aren't good value for money at all.

I think GT4 would be the best.

25 euro for a PS2 and 5 for GT4.

Dirt 3 is 20 Euro's GTA IV is 20/25 Euro's so they are not really expensive;).
Blur isn't the best game its like Mario kart but its fun and Splitsecond is same like Blur.
But that's how I think.

GT5 is amazing value for money if you race online and definatley going to last me a long time with GTA San Andreas PS2 coming in a close 2nd :)

Yes they are good value for money, I got this game in february this year, now I still couldn't get enough of it, while other game the most I would play for about 1 mth and I got bored of it

Gt3 my favourite game ever, followed by gt5, gta IV, and battlefield bc2. Lost many many weekends to those games, gt3 I played for years!

On the PS3 yes of course. Even considering all the shortcomings, GT5 after 2.0 has a new life. The AI in arcade mode (at level 10 of aggressivity) is spot on. You really wont find anything better on the PS3 so yes, money well spent. With GT5 it's all about bringin out the best from it.
Do yourself a favour grind with your bspec drivers for credits and race ONLY in arcade mode or in organized online events.

I'd have to put GT4 over it for now, as it kept me playing for 5 years. Closest games to that so far are Oblivian and Super Mario both about 2 years, then GTA San Andreas. I think Skyrim will join in to my bang for buck eventually over time also.

It is the only game I have played since it came out.

Compare that to the 10 or so new games my son has bought and played since then. Most of his games have no replay ability, some did not last through the first few days. He still wants more games for christmas.

I am still finding new things to do in GT5 and still keep going back.

Lots of value for money. I am not sure about its value against GT4 though, lots more events to play through in there. I played GT4 for several years!

This.

For me add the whole GTA series, the whole GT series and your favourite sports game at the time. There's not much time left for anything else after those three.

Is GT5 the best value for money game created out of all games in existance? too early to tell as other GTs have been out for longer, and other games still have huge followings despite being almost over x amount of years.
Is GT5 the best value for money game this console generation? I wholeheartedly agree there!

Most console games this generation have been short, misguided online centric affairs, while that can be fun, the best way to experience a game's core is through its single player element, some games can get away with multiplayer only, but thats really rare. GT5 how so much content stuffed into that disc though, and it really shows the quality put in (ok the standards not so much, but im glad they are there) an the sheer craftmanship in the game.

From the fun little Kei cars to the monstrous V8 Muscles, the small roadsters to full blown supercar exotics, GT5 has enough in almost every car category to please a huge amount of players. The tracks, while less than previous games are a great selection of good tracks with many various corners to tackle, and hills to conquer, and the track generator, while limited can be used to great effect if you put in some patience and trail-and-error:)

So, yes I do agree GT5 is one of the top best value-for-money games this generation.

This gen is a different matter.

I'd have to put the Fallout 3 game of the year and Fallout New Vegas series at the top of that value list.

In my case, yes. I bought it on launch day and have played it over 90% of the days since then. With the new "tuning prohibited" option I've recently been driving a lot of cars totally stock and have found a whole new side of the game. I admit it has its short comings but online makes it shine and all the updates and changes have made it a real adventure. But honestly GTP is what brings it all together. 👍

The only game I've played more was Goldeneye on N64, but I have no doubt GT5 will eclipse it. :)

Totally agree. Fallout 3 in particular ate 100s of hours of my life. Getting Skyrim for Christmas, I think GT5 may end up feeling a little neglected...

I think most Gran Turismo games, Minecraft, Forza, and (maybe) TDU 1 and 2. There are probably more games other than these. I say TDU because TDU2 was on sale on Steam for about $5, which is great for suck a large game.

I would have to say that the entire Gran Turismo series would be the best bang for the buck games made. Got way more than just the money's worth for sure... Another game to consider would be "Colony Wars" on the old PSX system, that took me quite a while to complete that one!

I would say GT4 was the most complete game in the GT series. Great variety of cars, lots of tracks, lots of races (the one make races in the dealerships were especially fun). It was pretty much the best of all of the first 3 games with its own additions sprinkled in.

That said, even though GT5 was rushed at the end, all of the changes they have made since the initial release has made it feel like a more thorough game and with the additional content that is still coming to us... I have faith that it will eventually match the offerings of GT4. From that perspective, I believe the product will match the value.

I'll drop the atomic bomb--FORZA 4(with the wheel)!

P.S. I actually enjoy both games.

I have both forza4 and gt5. I brought the forza 4 lce but it still wasnt enough to keep me away from gt5.

I do agree that forza4 would be good with a wheel but not better than gt5.

Xbox need a better wheel though.
