Microsoft failed big times not providing Logitech/Trustmaster compatibility, The average Logitech user doesn't feel the need to buy another wheel only for a single game. Expecially users of highend wheels like G27 or the Trustmaster, there are more chances they go on pc with iRacing, rFactor ecc ecc instead of Forza, just because of the compatibilty issue.

I'm still playing GT5 and i've had it since release.
I've layed out alot more money on GT then anything else... I bought two copies of GT4 after the first broke from a year of use; I bought a DFP to go with GT4; I bought a PSP just for GT PSP; I bought my PS3 in '08 for GT5 (stupid release date romours), the list goes on...

Is it worth the money?
The game for $140 AUD (CE)? Absoloutely
The DFP i used for about 11 months that i found laying around the house? Yep
The G25 i recently shelled out $220 AUD on? Hell yea
The $20 of DLC? SPA! Whatdoyou rekon?
The $90 for Dirt 3? Well i only played it for about 3 hours before i got bored of it.
The $100 for Shift 2? It made my eyes hurt and found it's way onto the shelf after a weekend
The $90 my brother payed for Forza? No, it's just (IMO) not that good...

I honestly feel that the hours i have spent on GT alone outweighs all the other games i currently own combined, after just over a year. Is it the best value game ever created...? For me yes (i saw it for $30 yesterday), but others will undoubtedly disagree.

EDIT: How about a poll...

I thought the American dollar and the Australian dollar were closer than that.

If your considering Offline only? Then yeah this game has a lot of game play hours packed into it and should be commended. I agree GT4 was probably better. No crap menu system and more polished and complete. It also cost $40 less without a prologue attached. Calling GT5 best value ever when the Online has no matchmaking and you have to endure a lot of game time lost to loading and menu screens? Not quite. Definitely best gameplay yet.

I think we need to wait a while to see if we can safely say it's the best value for money.

What more do you have wait for? better dlc and updates? The fact that people are still playing this game after a year and will continue on should say the wait is over and that this game can only get better.

Have you heard of Fanatec?

Dude you cant be serious, if you call the fanatec a decent wheel then you are delusional. Nobody cares about that wheel and the sensoring is defenitly lacking and off point.

i said they need a better wheel like what ps3 uses. i already know about the fanatec in which i would never get for my 360.

For a console game? Yes and no. I wish PD threw in some more mods (engine swaps, drivetrain swaps, better paint system, less JPN cars and more muscle/european cars, all tracks having day/night cycles, and MORE F1 CARS!). Better than NFS? YES.

But I'd have to say, Rigs of Rods (a free PC game) is probably one of the best, mostly because you can make any car your heart desires (with a bit of practice and dedication, that is).

I'd have to agree with you. After having GT5 for almost a year now, I'm still going strong and still discovering cars and still learning. There's just so much to do and so many cars to drive. GT5 will be my go to game for at least another year.

Either that, or I just love cars and driving. Most average gamers who played GT5 would have probably moved on to something else by now.

GT5 is amazing value for money if you race online and definatley going to last me a long time with GTA San Andreas PS2 coming in a close 2nd :)

In life, one has to make concessions and compromises. My wife, for instance, can put up with tons of stress, the apocalypse, etc., but refuses to live without cable TV. It's a small luxury that makes the long hard days at work worth it, and the expense in exchange for piece of mind and relaxation more than justifies the cost.

The Gran Turismo series has been that way for me. I've been playing since the demo for the first one on the PSOne, and have owned every one since. Compared to other forms of entertainment, my GT5 Collector's Edition plus DLC has paid for itself countless times, and will do so until 6 comes out.

Not only that, but the GT series allows me to do at home what can't be done in the real world (without serious consequences)- drink and drive. No need to leave the house when I got a 6 pack (don't drink often so I'm a cheap drunk) and a controller.

For a console racing game?
Yes, definately. $150AU Signature, special price.

For a racing game on any platform?
Not quite, rFactor on PC. More cars and tracks then GT5 and only $40 with more cars and tracks being added every week across every racing catagory.

For a game in general?
Minecraft cost me $20 and it is infinately playable.
The Orange Box has 5 games for price price of 1 and those games are all competely amazing in their own right.

But GT5 is still amazing, it isnt the best in all catagories, but to me it definately is in the top 3 for each, which is a great result.

I think GT4 was the best value.
played it for years, it was the only PS2 game I played on my PS3.
Even when I had GT5p

But GT5 is still good valeu for money There are not that many games I still play every day after a year.
I actually bought GT4 after getting GT5, but I couldn't get into the strange blurring effect when i had a bump. Is that something one can disable? But, yes it take your point. GT5 only been around a year and pple been playing GT4 or GT3 for many years more :-)

Yes they are good value for money, I got this game in february this year, now I still couldn't get enough of it, while other game the most I would play for about 1 mth and I got bored of it

👍 - agree, and I am not yet even into the online racing yet :-)

Most console games this generation have been short, misguided online centric affairs, while that can be fun, the best way to experience a game's core is through its single player element, some games can get away with multiplayer only, but thats really rare. GT5 how so much content stuffed into that disc though, and it really shows the quality put in (ok the standards not so much, but im glad they are there) an the sheer craftmanship in the game.

👍 - agreed. Especially your comment about the Online-centric nature of most console games these days. I am not even using the online feature at all. You are probably right about GT4 and GT3 even; too early to tell with GT5. I was just on a roll with my OP. T'was more of a love letter to PD in question guise ;-)

I think this was more my point; peeling back the layers of the simulation, learning more and more over time. Re-discovering the joys of less powerful car, after seemingly having moved on to the race cars. Maybe it's because of my age (too old to be playing console games for sure... ahem!), I'm finding more and more depth in the sim.

Agreed - its definitely a stress buster for me! Maybe I should have made the OP about the GT series as a whole. I've playe 3, 4, and now 5; actually preferred 3 to 4, oddly. Seemed more intimate. That's just MHO ;-)

In my case, yes. I bought it on launch day and have played it over 90% of the days since then. With the new "tuning prohibited" option I've recently been driving a lot of cars totally stock and have found a whole new side of the game. I admit it has its short comings but online makes it shine and all the updates and changes have made it a real adventure. But honestly GTP is what brings it all together. 👍

The only game I've played more was Goldeneye on N64, but I have no doubt GT5 will eclipse it. :)

What's the "tuning prohibited"option (online???)? Anyhow, in light of your post, I deleted my 2nd account savegame and am now building up a garage of stock-tuned cars only, premium models :-) - so far got the Nissan March (1st car) and BMW M5, and the free GTR for the online time trial racing. Wonderful, choosing the cars again and resisting the urge to tune them up. All aids switched off, man-gears, s'like a whole new game :-)

Have you actually used any of the Porsche wheels by Fanatec? I know plenty of people who say the GT2 wheel feels incredible for racing, and in some cases it's even better than a G25/7.

I'm still playing it, so I guess that makes it good value. Even considering the 85 quid I spent on a wheel, just so I could enjoy it more. Then there's all the time spent blethering on about the game on this forum.

Dirt 3 is fun, and for 22 smackers, was good value too.

Driver SF was expensive (I was dumb enough to shell for the collector's) but fun - probably the only game I played a lot with my bro, who used to be a console gamer, but family (and mmrpg's on pc) have conspired to put a dent in that. But if I can get a few hours, then that makes it good value too.

Then there's the hours I've spent in Liberty City, with the Belics, the Bikers and Bar owners. And I really get what people say about San Andreas being the bigger game.

My all time best GTexperience was probably with 3, as my next door neighbour and I squandered time beating the complex string, and finally completing to 100%. But would I want it back? No. Definitely not. I bought 4 for a couple of quid, just to see if it was as good as I remembered. It isn't. Call me shallow, but it just isn't pretty enough.

So to recap, GT5 is about the best value game I've bought for the PS3 but a chunk of that value has been added by you guys on this site.

Keep up the good work!

just want to add one thing, a good wheel is a must, DS3 just doesn't do justice to the game

Family life wont allow me the delights of a wheel, but i would love one. I daren't even try one, for fear it would spoil me.

Actually I don't even have a PS3 yet; borrowing my step-son's; I hear Santa's treating me perhaps this year, however :-)

Haha :D I feel sorry for you man :D Untill half a year ago my mom would'nt let me buy a wheel. But i just went to buy it one day and eversince that day she have been hating my PS3 like hell.

But you really should buy a wheel. It really takes the game onto a hole new stage of simulation ;)

I agree, the more/longer you play the more you start to love it. I like gaming because of challenge, collecting trophies, (online) competition, etc. but with GT5 (and previous GT's) I can just play and enjoy it by just choosing one of the many cars and mess around with it in arcade mode. I'm not denying GT5 could've been better, but the fundamental basics are there.

Lately there are many/more games (online multiplayer games) that imo have a good price/value if you get hooked. I've spent many hours playing COD4 at the time (as well as the other CODs, though COD4 is definitely my favourite). Although it's not entirely the same as GT5, there's still a time of coming and going, whereas I would keep playing GT5 even after I got multiple new games (mainly because there aren't any real competitors).

I have finally... finally begun to play a few other games I bought, one at a time. Oh, and when Forza 4 came out, I played that for a few frustrating days in a row. Something about that game and me just don't connect.

But GT5? I can - and have - spent countless days just in Arcade Mode racing various tracks and saving replays for Photo Mode, where the only reward is the racing. As others have discovered, racing on the Nurburgring and watching daytime slip into darkness, and with rain, is the most AMAZING experience I've ever had in a racing game. And man, all those cars... it's my mission now to buy every single one, and eventually race them, though for now, I really need a car with at least 150hp. I need some excitement besides the cool visuals. ;)

I can't say enough about GT5. I'll be playing it until GT6 comes, or the Lord. And by all means, you have to get hold of a good wheel, like the DFGT at least. If you don't have one, you're not experiencing the real Gran Turismo 5.
