Is it just me or are Racing Hard tires really worthless?

The tire model and the track surface model are both quite basic in GT5 and they go hand in hand. How different compounds work in real life depends on the track conditions, but in GT5 there seems to be no track condition variation except for the wet surface (and i'm not sure how accurate that is). My opinion is that the tire choise is just another method of tweaking the difficulty level in GT5.

Racing softs are just too grippy, reduce their grip and the problem is solved.
Also double their wear.....

Why double RS wear? They don't last very long as is. No GT5 race tire lasts as long as a real racing tire.

And like I said before, there probably isn't enough compound choice and variable conditions to get tire strategy. Did anyone in the old games really spend time picking a tire out of need and not desire? The only time tire choice was important was not endurance races, but races that happened to be just a bit longer than the life of a certain tire.
