Is it just me or is the steering very sensitive

I am having great difficulty in controlling fast cars under decelleration, particulary at the nurburgring, is it because the place is so bumpy, ive tried using both a ds2 and a dfp steeringwheel and they are still uncontrollable, i feel the steering is alot more sensitive than previous versions, i had gt prologue and that was fine, but as soon as i got my hands on gt4 i knew something wasnt right, what do you's think
 
Brake before you turn (don't perform your main braking while turning), and steer smoothly. Don't jerk the steering around and the cars will be stable ... unless of course you get your drive wheel into the grass :)
 
I thought the same thing when I first played GT4, but I got used to it. It's basically GT3 with very much improved physics... plus, you have to be much smoother with throttle, brake, and steering inputs.
 
The bumps severly affect a stiff (spring rate) and tight (high bound/rebound values) suspension. Try reducing SR by as much as 25% and reduce the Bound/Rebond a few clicks, as well as carefully modulating your thottle/brake inputs...
 
Couple of quick things, i assume you are using the full 900 degrees with the dfp and not the 200, if not then try that. Also, i have found that using the the Body ridgidty (not sure if that's spelt right?) helps a considerable amount. Also keep in mind that there is a lot of load on the car under deacelleration, in particular in the differential. This can be counterd with a LSD, but beware, dont tinker with it too much as this can make matters worse.

Final word, make sure you have plenty of downforce in the rear of the car, because as the car lurches forward under braking the rear wing is fully exposed, and able to catch the most air. Having the setting's on the rear wing high means you can catch alot of this air and help keep the rear stable under braking.

See if you need to complete a chassis refresh. If so, do it at once. Your handling will improve substatially.

Borrowed my friend's DFP for two nights, putting in over eight hours on it. I had exactly the same problem with it.

I went back and forth between the DFP and my old Mad Catz wheel. I can only conclude that Logitech and PD didn't quite get it right in their collaboration on the GT4 project. I can turn faster laps, and make fewer mistakes, and correct skids and slides better, when I use the Mad Catz.

At first I thought it was the Force Feedback that was making the control so difficult with the DFP, but later I realized that there is too much linearity in the way the DFP turns the front wheels. The MC's more-progressive curve, if you can call it that, makes it easier to make small steering corrections at high speeds.

The biggest problem I had with the DFP was correcting and holding slides and drifts when I was off course and out in the loose stuff, which I often was with that unit. I always ended up over-correcting and spinning the other way, ending up backwards against the wall. With the MC I just steer into the slide, modulate the throttle, and power back onto the asphalt like I did in GT3, and even in NFSHP2.

I know I am in the Cathedral of Our Lady of The Driving Force Pro here at GTP, but I don't care: The DFP is very much over-rated. Even the supposedly cheap and crappy Mad Catz MC2 results in better control and faster laps.

Sorry, folks, but Logitech didn't get it right.
 
I had some control problems at first with the DFP too. Once I turned off the "Active Steering" and whatever all the other options are in the "Steering" options menu, the cars were much easier to control.

I had Active Steering off and went to Mild Force Feedback. With Active on and Strong FF, I was completely out of control.
 
Must be partially personal preference then. I had all the settings the same (disabled) for about a week, and last night I only changed the FF from Mild back to Strong, and it improved the handling for me - makes the car feel more rigid. Also of note, I've seen people suggest changing the Driver Assist to Simulation, as opposed to Pro or whatever else is there, but right in the game it says, "this setting is disabled for the Driving Force Pro wheel," so that setting is irrelevant.
