Is it possible to tansfer game data from one user to a new user?

I purchased my Playstation used and I have forgotten to do a complete system restore.
I have been exclusively playing GT5 offline for the past couple of weeks. I have reached 70% game completion. I tried to play online yesterday and it prompted me "do you want to sign in?". Well obviously I have not created a PSN Id and password, so I'm assuming that the game is still linked to the previous owner.
Since I do not know his PSN id (e-mail address) and password it is impossible for me to log in my current GT5 game.
...so I created a new used and opened my PSN id but, when I started GT5 it allowed me to log and play online but it did NOT load the previous game data:grumpy:
I then proceeded to copy the 70% game data to my new user but when GT5 was started it prompted "you cannot use the data as it belongs to someone else's e-mail".:grumpy::grumpy:
So now I'm thinking about saving the 70% game data to an external hard drive...doing a complete system restore...starting a new user (mine)...and finally uploading the 70% game data from the external hard drive. Would this work or would this 70% game data still be linked to the PO ?
Has anybody has experienced this particular situation or has a solution/idea?
Thanks in advance guys and sorry for the long post.
Frustrated.

Data transfer works fine for your GT5 progress.
I just tried with my new (slim) and old (thick) PS3.
Everything is copied from the 'old' to 'new' PS3,
including the songs, pictures you can see in the XMB.
You don't even need to install GT5 again after data transfer is done.
EXCEPT all the replay data and photos taken in game.
You won't see any replay or photo, which you saved in game previously in your 'new' PS3
so I think you have to extract them into the XMB in your 'old' PS3 first.
