No. That's PS2 compatibility you're thinking of.

All PS3s can play PS1 games. GT is a PS1 game. GT can be played on a PS3.

Yeah it all works ross I got confused between the PS1 & PS2 compatibility. It should work fine.

It does work. I have a 250GB slim and both GT1 and GT2 work perfectly. Even the memory card data swap thing. As far as i can tell, the only features of the ps1 missing from ps3 is the link up thing ive only ever seen in Destrucrion Derby.
