I've sold my 360 a couple months back , and playing my PS3 a lot more ... now for some reason I'm thinking of buying a new one lol . What do you guys think? I'm afraid that I will buy one now and in a year a new 3rd generation will be out ... what do you guys think should I just get one?

Hmmm.... its a tough choice, if your playing PS3 more then it might not be worth it but if you have existing 360 games and are looking forward to future exclusive titles then you probably should buy one because they keep getting cheaper and cheaper.

Having said that you never know when the next xbox will come out and it has been rumored that it will be sometime soon whereas with the PS3 its likely (Sony praying here!) that it will have a 10 year life cycle.

Its really up to you.

If you think anything has changed over the last few months, then not really. But the upcoming major games like Gears of War 2, Far Cry 2, Fallout and Call of Duty: World at War will make it worth it, I'd say. And there will be new comminuty features and a total new dashboard update by the end of this year.

It'll definitely be a few years at least yet before we hear anything about a replacement. The "rumours" say 2011, ages away yet.

While it has a 10 year life cycle there will be a replacement out before then, the PS3 will just do what the PS2 did.

Gears of War 2 , Xbox here I come again :D:D

Yes its worth it. A lot of great games coming out as mentioned above. Especially GOW2.
On a side note, the 360 still is not a very reliable machine. But it does have a lot of great games.

If you mean like a PS3 slim (PS Three) or something then yes its most likely... the PS2 has been going in its various forms since 1999 but the PS3 as it is will most likely stay the same for about 6-7 years before any changes are made.

No I mean a the next evolution of the Playstation, presumably called the PS4. The market, along with technology is going to grow very fast and in order to stay competitive Sony will have to keep up. The PS3 won't be pushed to the backburner but there will be a new model of the system with more gadgets on it.

Reliability has increased dramatically over the past year or so, and my understanding has been that the RROD has been a far less-frequent problem than it had been before. I think they're on their third or fourth generation motherboard setup, and there are still more coming later on. Mine is a second-generation setup (the first to get HDMI-out?), and I've yet to have a problem with it.

As for titles, there is a lot coming down the pipe:

- GoW2
- Halo Wars
- Too Human
- Infinite Undiscovery
- Fable II
- Red Alert 3
- Left 4 Dead

...And that's just 'till the end of 2008...

Considering that I'll likely only be getting Rock Band 2 and Star Wars: Force Unleashed for the 360 this holiday season, yeah, I'd say it just depends on what you want to play.

I'm planning on getting an Elite version this time , I use to have the premium version. I never had the RRoD on my old so I hope with a newer model I wouldn't have anything to worry about , or should I be worried ??

In my opinion the Elite version is a waste of money unless you definitely need the extra storage.

It's not a major concern anymore the reliability, but it still happens, even with Elite consoles. My one replaced about a year ago has been absolutely faultless :touchwood:, and I've played on it a lot as well - over 30 days on COD4 in total and a few other games here and there, which is more than I ever expected from it.

I've read that there is games installs on the 360 now so that could come in handy , plus I don't think we have got the 60GB version over here yet. Does the premium have HDMI?

Oh right, no Sony has stated that they will run the PS3 for 10 years before the next generation.... depending how it goes they will then consider whether its going to be the last console they produce.

Sony has been rumored to not want to produce a console after the PS3. :indiff:

If things are going badly then there might be an overlap where a PS4 may come in about 7-8 years into the PS3's lifecycle.

Robin.

There's an update or has been an update that will allow game installs in the future. But I doubt any current game will ever support it.

PR Schlock. The PS3 will be supported probably 10 years, but probably lose the spotlight after 5-6 like the PS2 and PS1 did.

There are rumours of Microsoft not wanting to produce a console after the 360. Don't read too much into them at this point and time.

That sums it up but I think the PS3 could go for a year or two longer, since as technology improves it takes more time to make games. It will probably take a while longer for the developers to really show what the system can do. But it will probably depend on Microsoft's plan.

I was in the same position not too long ago until I remembered why I sold my 360. Not very found of Xbox live gold. I dont play enough to justify the price and sliver is a joke. I wanted PGR4 and MotoGP 2007.

I'd still say if your motivation is the controller or the games then get it, otherwise it's not all that important.

Yeah i think a reduction in price is needed for XBL, PGR4 and MotoGP07 are both great games and worth playing.👍

The only problem with the Elite package is that (as I recall), its going 60 GB HDD across the board here soon. It would likely be best to wait until later in the holiday season (late September-January) to pick one up, that way you'll be able to get the new hardware, the bigger HDD, and likely a few free titles in the process.

As far as reliability is concerned, I haven't heard of too many issues on the newer consoles. Mine is second-gen, I've yet to have an issue.

I will see what packages we have here by the end of this month, and decide then most probably I wouldn't be able to wait until the end of the year lol . So I will just enter the shop and pick the best package that suits me at that time wither its the premium or elite as all teh Xbox stuff we get here is imported from the US.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the 360 still push out 1080p no matter what you have? I've got the ability to run HDMI, but I've never gotten around to buying the cables.

Yeah... I'd be getting it just to have HDMI all around that's it for me. D-sub has been just fine for me and it is 1080p too.

I'm counting on that September price drop rumor. $199 for Arcade edition, or $299 for the 60gig.

Does anybody know if I buy the arcade edition, if I can add the harddrive after the fact? It shouldn't be difficult, should it?

On the reliability issue, I've been reading about this new chip or motherboard Microsoft is going to start using on X360, code named "Jasper". From what I understand, it's part cost reduction, part upgrade(less heat). Some stuff I've read on web, they are guessing that Jasper chip is helping with the price drop, as they are both rumored to start around September.
