Is it worth racing in the 500 and 600pp expert events?

Also, the 512BB and XK are a brilliant match up, the 512 is a touch faster, but not so much to make it impossible to beat in the XK, you just have to push quite hard (which ive found to be quite difficult, rexc will know what I mean....which reminds me, great races, rexc! I could have caught your 512, but I kept pushing too hard and kept ending up with barrier penalties. The downgrade to the Speed Six was overkill though, you should have stayed in the 512, I really was determined to beat it ).

No problems Ardius. Yeah some very good races. I'll stick to the 512 for you then. I have been beaten in it by some really good drivers in quite a variety of cars actually, but for most it is still a case of to beat me, first you have to catch me. I hadn't driven the Speed Six for a while, so I was a bit surprised that the difference between that and the 512 was so much, as I thought I had it set up quite well. Just more practice and familiarity with the 512 now I quess.

THe best thing about 600pp races is that practically half of all the cars in the game can be used.

I have probably 7 different 600pp cars to use for online races depending on the track and whatever mood i feel like driving.

I was overjoyed when 600pp races were brought on. It lets me race with the 'stang which I have RL driving experience. Driving supercars can get old. But to 'track' my daily driver is grand. I usually prowl Suzuka...

As I have been away (from home) all week, it is good to see more interest in these classes. Having read this and other threads I add my own opinions:

Sure 500PP will seem like snail's pace compared to 750PP but against good drivers I would argue it is harder to make up time lost through mistakes, and harder to stretch a lead, but whatever you feel it is good to have a choice.

I tried comparing online and offline times but you need to be careful as I set up a C4 for racing and gearing that could only stretch 5th gear in a draft. I never use the Integra or Mini because they are too common and despite my competitive urge I am concentrating on the fun (have to with the idiots around). When an Integra driver needs to wallride to beat a C4 who feels best at the end ?

Just before I went away I experienced some good 500PP races so I am hoping that the 500PP class is getting cleaner. I currently avoid the fastest classes and Daytona, to give the idiots time to get bored and I need to make this game last. No offense to the real racers. I will try 600PP next week.

I tried SUZUKA PP500 tonite, my god its, 👎, paint dries faster and grass grows quicker, the cars are sooooo slooooowwwww and sluuuuuggggggisssssshhhhh.

SUZUKA PP750 in my tuned EVO X my god its fun. :D

It's fairly obvious the PP500 events will feel slow if you spend the majority of your time driving in the PP750 events, so that comment is pretty redundant.

Had you started out in this class, or spend some time racing at a track like Suzuka where the speed doesn't matter so much (I'm willing to assume you raced at Daytona oval or HSR before coming to this conclusion...) you'd find that the racing is actually very good and you don't notice the lack of speed because you're concentrating on the driving so much.

I've been racing in the PP500 class for most of the time and I can say that certainly at Suzuka the racing is clean. I can't vouch for Daytona because I find going in a circle a bit boring. HSR seems okay competition-wise too, and I haven't experienced any wallriders there because in PP500 it doesn't gain you anything.

Had a couple of good 500pp races in at Suzuka last night... my (un-tuned) Clio wasn't quite match for a well driven Civic though.

Then ran a few 600pp races in a Mazda RX7 (I love this car - quick enough to be competitive but much more interesting to drive than the 4WD stuff). First couple of races I get punted off at the first corner by tuned clios, but about midnight their parents must have sent them to bed and I hang around for another 4 or 5 events... and it was some of the best racing I've had on-line. Very, very close racing and much cleaner than the usual experience.

There were couple of people with GTRP [DE] tags (in matching black Evo X's) who were quick and some fast French drivers too.... very enjoyable.

Your way off the mark :grumpy:, I hate racing at Daytona Oval or HSR. When I first bought GT5 PROLOGUE I raced in the first PP500 races at SUZUKA in an Integra and I loved it I had some of the best and most fun races there and added a few good clean fellow racers to my friends list . But now I am used to speed  in the ASBO'd BASEBALL CAP wearing TUNED EVO X, its just so much fun.

My favourite track is SUZUKA, I like to race on tracks that are a challenge with sharp bends, hairpins and chicanes a bit or variety. Any egit can go round and round on an oval track, BORING!!!

Race me tonite at SUZUKA PP750 I will be on from about 8pm till well into the early hours UK time, lets have some fun.

Yessss, the crazy french drivers where there with some GTRP's and GTP's and are actually looking for a representative fairplay tag for our board too:tup:

We met some fast & clean drivers like : GTRP_Rudi_Raser and GTP_Finbaeck (sorry if I misswrite it)

Some very fast & close race disturbed sometimes by some french morons too:ouch:

PS: the BB512 seems to be ok there at 600pp.... difficult to pass eon the curves even if you are faster & unbeatable on the straights :scared:

See you soon there 👍

If you can, try to race after MIDNIGHT, my theory is that all the crashers and bashers turn back into pumpkins after this time :) So it just leaves clean and fast drivers.👍

We were there until 2 am and was still some :scared:

But we managed it anyway :)

You are incorrect, it makes a big difference. Wall riding/bashing at Turn 2 gains at least 1 second at that point alone ! :grumpy:

Then add in the final turn where they can enter faster and exit at similar speed as the clean line. I had a 3.5 second lead eaten away in two laps, and I was driving good clean laps. Only after I was in second place did I see what was happening...every lap.

I tried the Turn 2 trick in TT mode and was (sadly) amazed.

WOW! Some of the best racing since I got the game. Clean and Professional. Although some of you said that it is a bit slow at the 500PP (and you're not lying) I think the lack of speed is not so bad once you consider the level of competition, in 6 car races I don't think that the split between 1st and 6th was more than a second or two and 1st and 2nd were mere fractions of a second a part. The battle was on from start to finish, and it all came down to the last chicane and the final straight (at Suzuka). All the cars were close together and some good driving going on with out a single accident.

👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

Apologies for incorrectly assuming. I do get the impression that a hell of a lot of people race at HSR and Daytona and I don't see the fun in those tracks at all. Sure, maybe the racing is challenging but the circuits are boring.

I'll pass on the PP750 for now cheers, I don't have enough experience in the cars. I only started doing the PP600 today because nobody was racing in the PP500.

That's why I enjoy the 500. I always have great races. I don't see much point in me going to different classes because I always come up against good racers in the 500. If I wanted speed all the time I'd stick to the F2007 :D

Okay how do I change the title of this thread to "Is it worth racing in the 750pp events" ?

After racing 600pp all last night and all this afternoon I decided to strap on my trusty GT LM and get my speed fix.

MISTAKE!!!

Either it's gotten worse in the last day and a half or my memory isn't what it used to be (prolly the latter)

Why do people who have no idea how to drive insist on picking the fastest, hardest to handle cars? I mean what do they get out of it? At one point I counted 3 fords + mine and the other 3, to a man, were donutting every corner of suzuka even the easy ones. Surely they can't enjoy sucking so bad? It was like driving through a minefield to get into the top 3 then watching the mirror and braking five minutes early on every bend, so the punters didn't knock me into the sandpits.

Aaaaaaaaaargh

.... aaaaand ... breathe ....

I love the 600PP class I hope though that they bring fugi back in a 600PP version. So far Ive seen far less punters and such in 600 and I enjoy those cars as much or more then the race bread 750pp type cars.

Im also in love with 600pp but 750 can be fun too but still 600 on suzuka is fantastic! 500pp little bit too slow :(

Less punters, but seemingly more "close the door'ers". At least on Suzuka PP600, every race I'm trying to make up for my mistakes, getting close (or even into first) and then one of the mid-pack drivers Im trying to overtake cleanly decides to just close the door on me, once again putting me either into the grass or sand and causing me to drive slower because of dirty tyres....leading to even more time lost.
Anyway, other than that, I normally quite enjoy PP600 but I'm yet to win a race cleanly against a GTP'er because its always that either I or they make a mistake or I get bogged down by traffic or punted. The only people I can think of that Ive raced properly for 5 laps is rexc, magburner and DrTrouserPlank. Everyone else has always spun off and given me the win or Ive spun off and not been able to catch up. Really frustrating.

Ardius_,today you win a GTP'er in Daytona Speedway 600(moore than once:)),just with another name.I didn't had my wheel, but not so nescessary in oval.We didn't get that Clio in that last race,my setups was too slow.Maybe next time.Red Mazda rx8

Must admit I still prefer the 750pp cars to drive and I probably would prefer it online if it wasn't for the eejits but 600pp also has merits.

...now, if I can just get my head around how 500pp can be fun I'll be the complete man!

I wondered if you were a GTP person or not. Great driving, it was fun racing with you. Your setups fine, I think you're the first RX8 driver I've seen online, I'm impressed by the RX8's performance.
Yeah, I always have used a controller, I never use wheels because I never have the money for a decent one, plus the fact Ive been playing racing games with game pads ever since I started playing games, I'm so used to them now. It's not that I find wheels hard to use, I just don't have enough experience using them (in simulators). For some reason, using a steering wheel Im fine with in real life, but in racing simulators, its completely different.

Anyway, at least I have peace of mind that last night was not completely a waste of my time. :)

I am loving 600PP racing. It has just the right amount of pace for quick and controlled racing. In the 750PP events I noticed I was spinning wheels and losing traction exiting corners, none of that in the 600PP racing.

The Evo X will keep you out of trouble, if you want a challenge I can vouch for the TLD Jag XK setup - beware the back end on that puppy!

The TLD Jag is great but I cannot, for the life of me, catch the BMW's on the straights with his current gear setup. I tinkered with the gears on it all evening trying to make it faster in 5th and 6th gear while still keeping the wheelspin under control in 3rd and 4th through the S-curves but had no real results. I figure part of the problem is because the car is so heavy.

I mainly race in the PP500 with the Alpha. The races are very close and some of the most competitive I have been in. The TLD setup for this car is spot on and I can pull off a win 90% of the time if everyone is racing clean. I'm not even that good of a driver. I see a lot less wreckers in the PP500 from my experience. If you lose a race here, its generally your fault because if you are racing the average crowd, you can get knocked off track/spun out and still take the race.

The PP600 is a pretty decent series to race in. I just wish the Mustang was faster. The Jag is the better choice between the two. I usually race the Tamora here and do fairly well with it. It's certainly not the best choice of car to use, but I have plenty of wins and a ton of podium finishes with it. It is really quick through the corners and also brakes well when the unexpected pops its eerie head. It just has a slow top speed and bad lateral grip. Not as many intentional wreckers, but the jump in power makes it harder to predict where you opponents are going to go as you try to get around them. I see more people getting shunted off the track during overtaking maneuvers in the PP600 as opposed to the PP500..

The PP700-750 is an absolute blast if you can find a clean race, but sometimes it only takes one single guy to ruin it all. That being said, I have also seen some of the most courteous drivers there too. I usually avoid this series because every time I am doing well, someone finds a way to end my race. I always hope I start either in the very front or the very back so I an less likely to get hammered in T1. I have encountered more "disconnectors" in the PP700-750 races as well. Maybe I've just had some bad luck.

I have become ADDICTED to the 500PP Suzuka! :dopey: The competition seems to always be good and clean. Well, most of the time, I ran into a guy who had GTK_ before his name and first turn he tried to make a dirty pass on the inside sending me flying off the track... dirty skank...

I tried PP600 @ Suzuka today. 5 tries, 5 full 16 car grids. I got punted 5 times at the first corner. Seems the kids are bored with their silly PP750 cars and want to punt people who like to race.

I did have a few good PP500 races at Suzuka, some guy in a Type R could stay with me, but when he power of the Type-R did catch my Mini he tried to push me in the kitty litter. All that takes is letting him suck up close to me, pull of the line and ap the brakes and watch him fly past me into the kitty litter because my car isn't there to be his brake.

God we need private rooms.

Some of my best races were in the 600 class.A lot of respect is given in this class and I plan to do most of my racing here.:)

Typically I've had very god racing in PP600 @ Suzuka. Tonight must have been special.

ive been playing 500 suzuka and i dont think ive been in a room with more that 3 people ever. very competitive and quite fun

ThugBear! I raced you today and owe you an apology, I had no idea you were gtp I accidentally knocked you in a race earlier today, :nervous: and sent you off track RedSuinit is my PSN... but yes 500PP on Suzuka is AWESOME!

I also had lots of fun at 500pp Suzuka last night. Almost everybody race clean there. junpeix555, forgetful, and others, I hope we can race again.
