Is my PS3 about to hit the bucket?

Two separate occasions, separated by a few weeks at best. Both had my road being corrupted. See pics below. Ignore image quality please.

1) Nurburgring. Wasn't too worried about this one, and I must admit, a darker nurburgring did look very cool. I've also had my road disappear completely one race, but it hasn't happened since.

2) Suzuka - Yeah...The road is blue. Drove a few practice laps, and all of a sudden the road turns this cyan color.

Or simply clear your cache.

cleared it for the first time a few days ago. I'll try to reinstall my game data, but I highly doubt its corrupt.

How exactly do I re-install the game data? Should I just delete it or what. Current Size: 8575mb

Success!
Deleted Game Data.
Started GT5, and was prompted to update to 1.09.
Updated to 1.09 (1GB).
Started Game.
Prompted to install Game Data.
Installing Game Data.

Hopefully this clears up my issues.

I don't see how reinstalling game data helps visuals, but I really think it's your PS3 and not the game.

P.S don't you mean "kick the bucket" instead of "hit the bucket"? ;)

Hehe, I did. I'm still hoping its not my PS3 that's going bad, but we'll see after some thorough online play-testing. For now though, I shall attribute the road changing color as being a feature. Thanks Polyphony!

I doubt it's the PS3 since it happened to me before.

Really? Because I've only heard of these glitches in the GT5 demo, never happened to me and never heard of it happening in GT5.

Well, They are either present in GT5 or me PS3 is about to go all wonky. Also Ecchi's

More corruption. I also had flashes of purple around SSR7 in single player.

Are you sure it isn't the spotlight on the top left of the first screenshot reflecting off of the wet road? There only seems to be purple in that one section of the road.

Are you online when this happens?

Yes and No.

The shots above are all online. BUT I've had purple flashing around SSR7 in Practice mode.

I really dont think its my TV. Normal television is fine. Oh and my PS3 is near silent, ever since I did maintenance on it. (Dusted it free, replaced thermal paste, etc). No I did not break the fan, it's still there ;)

I had it happen to me once in A spec, about 5 times online, I sometimes hear other players complaining that the track has dissapeared!

Just clear your cache, but I'm still sure its your internet as it sends and recieves info even when in A/B spec.

Disconnect PS3 from internet and then see if it still does it:idea:

I think it's your PS3 dying. I've heard people say they get weird artifacts onscreen before it dies. My 60 gig showed no signs before it died, just pooped after it had been on 30 seconds.

I reinstalled my Game Data, Cleared my cache, and as mentioned above, it happens offline as well, just not as severely, but then again I've never raced the Weather change SSR7.

Edit: I shall clean my disc when I'm done with tonights racing. There should only be a smudge or two, but you never know. The GT5 disc rarely leaves my ps3, lol.

Edit 2: Missed the disconnect part, I'll try it :)

Edit 3: Disc Cleaned. Will test offline play tomorrow as well as online with the freshly cleaned disc. The condition of the disc itself wasn't actually bad. Just as I had expected it only had one or two small smudges. GT5 Save has been safely backed up, will do a full backup tomorrow just in case!

Do you have a different PS3 and/or TV you could try the game on? Artifacts are generally due to hardware issues.

if it's still happening after all that, you might want to have a look at your ps3. is it an old model? is it dusty around the fans/inside? maybe the lens could do with a clean.

Okay, back with some info. First the PS3.

My first PS3 that I bought died and I had it sent to Sony for repairs (YLOD-60GB).
The PS3 that I received back is the one I am currently using. Like my old one, It is a 60GB model BUT there is one crucial difference. Unlike my old model, the one I'm using right now was made in Japan, not China.

The Maintenance I performed on the PS3 was roughly a month or two ago. As I mentioned in a previous post I completely dusted the innards and replaced the old, worn thermal paste with fresh high quality Arctic Silver Ceramique (Non conductive). Since then the little bugger has been dead silent.

I've started my PS3 and it's been running on SSR7 idle for a good ten minutes now. No purple stuff yet, but then again all this color corruption happens randomly.

I only have a single PS3 and single GT5 disc so I can't swap those out to test. I do however have several different TV and also HDMI cables. If anything of the color stuff were to happen I'm thinking I'll plug the PS3 right into another TV with another HDMI cable.

Since it is specifically the road that changes color, and not the rest, it can't be your TV.

Could be 3 things:
1. PS3 dying/laser dying/maybe HDD corruption?

2. Disk is scratched bad (happened to me with Forza 3...disk got scratched and one track has some pretty interesting colors now lol).

3. The game data on your HDD is corrupted (not save data).

Hopefully it's not the PS3 though, that would suck to have to buy a new one.

It has to be either (1) The PS3 itself is bad, or (2) the disc is bad. Do you have another PS3 game? If so, try it and see if anything in that game is changed.
