I would not say Prologue is dead, but it is not living high and mighty right now. Just true GT fans play online now I think. Even me, who loved FM2 online, can still enjoy some GT online. It is easy to get a 750pp race, but that's were a lot of idiots are at. I love the 600pp and 500pp races, by far the closest races I have had in GT online. But not many people there. I noticed after the initial hype wore off for me, I got irritated by the long matching times, constant lag( mainly small amounts resulting in the other cars not moving smoothly, but jerky), and inability to do almost anything you should be able to do. But its still alive, just maybe on life support.

I've done a few 750PP races and I haven't enjoyed them as much as I have the 500PP or 600PP events. Generally, I'm always looking for a good race on Suzuka 600PP as I find that 9 times out of 10 you can have a great battle with someone, even if it is at the back of the pack.

The long matching times are a sign of lack of players I think and the lag I experience is very off-putting at times The problem with lag is that the player who's experiencing it wouldn't know it would they? As far as I know, I don't, but I don't have the privilege of being the guy from England in the car behind me watching me dance and dart all over the place like a smoking magician.

Lag issues are probably one of the main reasons why the online racing is so tough. I had a guy from Italy who I was racing last night and all of a sudden he just steered dead straight off the track like he had a heart attack and I grabbed a position. Three seconds later, the same guy suddenly appears infront of me, driving like nothing had happened and he'd just come out of the Doctor's TARDIS. Now for me that was major lag (the worst I've had yet) and left me really confused and a bit unsettled because after that surprise, I crashed, hehe.

I've noticed also that there is something of a 'gentlemans' agreement taking place around Suzuka where people don't dart hell-for-leather into the first corner anymore, but rather cruise into it, sort out their racing positions and the racing really only begins through the esses. Anyone else notice this recently?

BTW, I came across a guy from Japan last night, who was driving a yellow F430 and was sooooo quick, he left everybody for dead. I've never seen a guy drive an F430 like that before and he was unbelievable. I come across very very few Japanese players (about 3 so far online) and I was wondering last night, does PD check in on the online racing from time to time so see how it's faring? I had the nagging suspicion that this fellow lived and breathed GT and it was the second time in a week I've come across him. Can't remember his name, but has anyone else seen this guy in a yellow Ferrari?

Combat system needs work - some of the boss characters are too hard to beat
Reward system is rubbish - I've been saving up for the tactical nuke for ages now
Particle system shouldn't make you cough!
Needs more powerups, ability to fly, invisibility, bullet-time, etc...

plus's:
Some of the female npc's are nicely rendered
overall graphics are very realistic
Accurate damage system :sly:

Gameplay seems to unfairly favour cheating.
No GodMode.
Excessive gameplay can lead to stress and/or exhaustion.
The AI for most characters needs a severe overhaul, if not rewriting completely.

Cons: Often stopped by invisible walls leading into and/or outside of large stores and conservatories on houses. The game tries to hide this through calling it 'glass' i mean seriously c'mon i'm not stupid.
Game may result in blood loss if these invisible walls are broken through excessive force.
No respawns.
Hacking seems possible through use of 'The Matrix' which claims reality can be hacked and changed.

Pros: Things which means this game should be limited to an 18 may often be enjoyable for those above this age.
Control system seems good.
Changing weather/time of day.
Private rooms are easy accessible with enough funds.
 
Reality = stay on topic.

Or at the least, close to it.
 
1) I'm quite happy to be last into the first corner & avoid any banging & bumping. I find after the esses I'm often up 3 or 4 places because other drivers have spun out in the confusion, & I can then concentrate on going after the leaders.

2) I still love my Clio.

3) It would be nice if the races were a little longer - perhaps 5 laps - as it would take some of the urgency out of the overtaking & allow people to drive more conservatively with less bumping & punting (something that I admit I still end up doing sometimes).
 
i live in NZ and other than noticing the lack of players from NZ on leaderboards, there is a lack of players full stop.

is there a certain rush hour when everyone logs on or what?

i have played as early as 10 in the morning and as late as 2 in the morning.

but yea happy to be reppin NZ in some leaderboards ive only tried a couple got up to 70-80

There does seem to be a lack of AU and NZ players on leaderboards, but I have raced against plenty of NZ and AU players, typically around 6-9pm (Sydney Time)
 
Hey Tizzla! I think I've been coming across you a bit more over the last week at Suzuka and I remember your name well (I tend to remember Kiwi's seeing as I was born in the city of Churches, hehe). I hope you stick around with GT5P because you seem like a promising driver and your best chance of recognition is by running as many Suzuka 600PP races as you can.

Anyone who's anyone can be seen there, but also anyone who's no-one can also be seen there! Develop a rep, stick with the races and race whenever you can at the 600PP events and you'll find that you'll develop a cirlce of Aussie and NZ mates. Have you come across LION_FACE yet? He's a great guy who knows how to handle his F40 and I truly enyoy racing against a fellow kiwi! Hope to see you this weekend!

yea i remember racing you. i dont have a steering wheel yet so i should be able to get much further up the leader boards when i do!!

i am yet to race another NZer so that sucks...

but yea ill see u soon at suzuka haha :sly:
 
I don't think it's dead. I mean it's not that long a preview is it? I do think people are looking at it like it's a game. It's a preview of what they're working on, and in some respect I'd imagine they are using it as a beta release, at least I hope they are.

I just got through torturing myself with GRiD, deleted it from my PS3 and have started 'playing' Prologue again and as it was mentioned in another thread, I can't drive anymore in GT5P. :lol::lol:

I mean I'm having a hard time controlling the F1 2007. So if you want to make Prologue feel fresh again? Hop on over to the GRiD circus for a couple of weeks. đź‘Ť

Since starting to play GT5P again, I'm trying not to think about the penalty system...:)
 
I don't think it is really dead, I think some people are getting fed up with the retards out there that think it is a button smasher game that like to think it is "destruction derby" or some other smash-'em-up game.There have been times out on GT5P that all that were playing were punters and dis-connectors ( sore losers ).So I pulled out GT5P and played F1 Championship Edition,no punters there,if you hit people there you damage your car and lose the race.It is a game intended for racing,not for button smashing,don't have to worry about punters on this game.Does any-one else play F1 racing ?

Since starting Prologue again, it's like a brandnew game! I totally stink. The biggest thing is the sense of speed. I'm so over-driving the tracks because I'm having a hard time gauging speed. The outside references are way more subtle in GT5P that 'The' Circus' was. :) Funny thing is when you watch the replays you're flying.

I wouldn't dare go into a Pro race online. I'd probably get banned from here...:scared: Seriously... I'm sure I heard my cat laughing. :rolleyes:


Totally off topic, but as I watch the replays, I keep thinking what awesome FPS settings the tracks are. :trouble:
 
Prologue kinda died for me because online is just too stupid its not worth bothering with until they have dedicated servers and private races.

As for single player Im just waiting for damage (coming xmas) before it really interests me again, that or a track update.

I only play PP600 suzuka race because I think that's the only the funnest game I've played. I could've play more if PD ever decided to put private/custom rooms.
 
Ever since release I have been playing GT5P every time I could get my hands on the PS3. At first, this was just so I could complete the main offline game and drive some of my favourite cars, however, once I had ventured online, I got hooked on racing Daytona and High Speed Ring with my Jaguar, just for the fun of driving the car and seeing who I could beat with it.
Next, I remembered this old forum that I once entered several years ago and posted some very newbie comments on that got instantly blasted, I remembered the forum being a good centre of Gran Turismo drivers who discussed everything about the game, so I decided to have a look again now that I had a bit more experience in forums and also because here we have an online GT game.

Naturally, I met a few members online and started posting here once again and this led to some great races and I started experimenting with different cars and started tuning for myself, even challenging myself to start racing without ABS at times and start learning manual's better - something I didn't have a lot of confidence with. Eventually, after several weeks, people started organising race events here and I joined a few and enjoyed it immensely. This also introduced me to people who could tune cars for me and allowed me to learn more about tuning my cars better.

Anyway, here we are several months later and I am still playing the game exclusively online, testing tunes, racing fellow forum members, racing other forum members, making new friends from online races and even organising my own races for people to participate in. I'm now fairly confident with using manual transmission and I can even hotlap within a few seconds of a few members around here who I hold with the upmost respect.
I even went as far as re-purchasing this game as the disc cracked.

So, has Prologue died for me? Hell no, its just got better and better, and it's almost entirely because of this forum. Now, I do regularly make mistakes online, I have my fair share of racing incidents and early on in Prologue, I had a fair few which I really regretted afterwards, but I've felt because of this forum and this community I've improved my driving and cleaned up some of my more dodgy overtakes (I distinctly remember a few incidents with Sphinx and several others and I will easily admit that I instantly felt very guilty about it all and concentrated on cleaning up my driving, so I hope I have redeemed myself in that aspect, but I suppose it's up to others to judge that).

Perhaps this is all because I've never played racing sims online before and never really been as active in such a community, so GTP5 is more important for me than others, especially those who have experienced better online setups on other games.

But I still don't think Prologue is dead because although the online mode is lacking in a fair few areas, it is still a lot of fun and organised events are still possible. This forum plays the largest part in keeping me intersted though.

Yes that is exactly why it has not died to you Ardius. Imagine this GTP community, but integrated and managed by PD, with weekly official contests, from time trial, photos, tournaments, etc., and actually being rewarded by PD with a free car of your choice via download. Imagine being able to actually COMMUNICATE with the developers from PD from this site, having them participate and even create threads asking for the fans input and ideas. Imagine being able to upload you photos from GT to the site, viewing your stats on the site, and having this wonderful sense of community we have here, but with PD involved.

That's what you get with FM2, I loved that. I can't even begin to list all the online options you had, but just about everything you needed was available. This is the experience by which I will compare every other online racing game I will buy, including FM3 and GT5. After having all that, you feel as though you have time traveled back to the day of the Dreamcast, GT5P options are sooo scarce they are basically non existent. It was fun for a week, and still is in short stints, between the frustration caused by long match making times, lag no matter your connection, and the abundance of idiots playing.

That's a rather unfair comment, to compare a vastly smaller, much newer game with a full online game with full online capabilities. Gran Turismo online is still in it's infancy and has yet to develop to it's full potential, but you're right in saying that PD is about as reachable as God from a fan point of view.

I'm really hoping that PD stop putting 'one toe in the water' so to speak, and jump right in the deep end with GT5.

As it turns out, Gran Turismo Prologue isn't dead. A month after I posted this thread, I'm still getting 12 Player races and enjoying it more than ever. Like Ardius said, a large part of it has to do with the community spirit, both here and on other forums and once proper game lobbies are introduced, private rooms and so forth, GT is going to explode.

Anyone remember GT4 Prologue? Came and went without a ripple in the water. The fact that there's so much activity and buzz about a 'half-game' with 5 tracks months after it was released just goes to show that it has been a success. When the full game comes out, we'll be occupied for YEARS, hehe!

I concur! I still waste hours on this game, there's never a shortage of things to do and courtesy of GTPro I've got another challenge to waste time on. Those that are bored with the game are just short on attention.
