Is PS4 really worth it?

Try playing some of the new pc games like battlefield 3 and the witcher 2 and you'll see what the ps4 could do. I imagine the new rfactor, gtr, and c.a.r.s games will blow away forza 4 and gt5 also. The ps3 and 360 are looking pretty old now. I don't really want a ps4 soon but it is getting to be really outdated.

The only reason I bought a ps3 is because they stopped making games for ps2 and alot of the games that I played moved on to ps3, now if they still kept the ps2 games updated I would probably still play it. And i'd rather not go far behind the games I enjoy yet im still bugged that they didn't let ps2 games be compatible with ps3

How can you talk about whether something is "worth it" or not when there are no announced specifications, prices, or details on functionality.
These companies exist to make money for their owners/shareholders. If you think they are somehow being "unfair" to you for making a new product then just don't buy it. Anyway... six year old hardware is ancient as far as computer technology goes so I'm not sure why your perception would be that this is some kind of under handed or evil move. Hardware improvements go a lot further than simply allowing for better graphics.

I personally want a new console but at the right time as it is meant to last a long period of time. PC gaming will probably become more dead once the new consoles come out as really you will not be able to get a much better experience unless some major breakthrough happens. That is also an advantage to the next-generation of consoles is that they will benefit from that and have a cheaper energy efficient gaming platform.
Hopefully Sony learn from their mistakes with the PS3. If they put a GPU as advanced and better than the 360 then they would have potentially dominated the market. Instead you had games running worse on the PS3. The main thing that cost Sony is lack of ram, if they included an extra 128mb of ram, then it would have done wonders for them. They had plenty of time to know what the 360 could do but they did not bother acting on it which is a shame.
Anyway what I want from Sony is to get a CPU and GPU manufactured at a minimum of 22nm or below. Maybe a realistic period is maybe sometime end of 2013 or sometime in 2014. I want it also to cost as much as the PS3 did at launch, if not more and this time make sure they got an advantage over the next Xbox where it matters.

So you wish they still just made atari 2600 games and never came out with a new console? It sounds like you should just build a super cheap PC, and play low grade PC games forever then. You could get a few console emulators and have thousands of games to play and never have to worry about a better game ever coming out. The PS2 game were compatible with the PS3 when it came out. It's only the newer PS3s that can't play PS2 games, and you could always buy a PS2 for 50 bucks at a pawn shop. I have 2 PS2s that I can't give away. I've tried to give them to at least 20 people I know and no one wants them or the 20 or so games I have with them. That shows why it's not worth sony putting the hardware they need in the new cheaper PS3s to play old ps2 games.

PS3 isnt "missing" anything significant. A Ps4 with a new interface and a great software features list is probably the most desired thing for the next PS. A PS3 with more ram, fast HDD, faster Blu-ray and better GPU is all they could do hardware wise. They could reduce production cost by upgrading the hardware. Not re inventing it with expensive R&D. Making way for a Sub $300 launch price. $600 will not work again. even if its 10x more powerful than NextBox.

As for PS4, the PS3 is looking dated when you compare it to modern PC games. Yes, it will cost money and if you think its just some evil scheme to make money, it pretty much is. Not exactly a secret that companies like to make money, last I checked.

Ehh, I don't even know if I'll buy a PS4 if and when the time comes. I spent so much money on my PS3 for games and accessories why would I wanna buy a PS4? I must have a good 15 games between the PS store and actual discs. On top of this I spent however much the official Bluetooth mic is plus I paid for two new controllers and I just spent $300 on a 320GB model not to long ago. Am I the only one who thinks about it like this?
Plus the PS3 is perfectly fine, I don't see a need for a new console.

Because Nintendo is a clearly recognized gaming brand. Sony makes everything from cellphones to cameras to tvs and coffee machines. They need a brand identity for a product range; comparing them to Nintendo is a mute point.
With inflation and technology, this statement is pretty irrelevant. And what it is worth to you doesn't mean what it is worth to others - plenty of people would pay a grand for a new console. Hell, plenty already have.
Game size? How so, did they find a new way to store information on optical discs? Blu-ray will be the standard for a while I think. And at this point, graphics are going to start being a larger concern with screen resolutions, which is TV related issue. AA and such only goes so far.

Last time I checked this thread's main subject was if the PS4 would be worth it or not. We all don't have the same opinion, as you stated. He was just giving his opinion that a $1000 gaming system wouldn't be worth it, even if there is amazing technology. And as for inflation, how can we really know how the economy will be when Playstation 4 comes out? I don't see how that comment could possibly be deemed irrelevant to the conversation.
