Is the Dodge Laramie RAM truck a programming error?

More or less, yes it is glitched. Too much A-Spec points, not to mention it has too much weight.

The Wheel lift is pretty fine, but I don't know if body roll affects this.

Hmm... I just drove the Ram today (finally did that truck-race), and I have to say - it's awfull. It's brick-like.
4WD, 2 Ton (even when fully lightened) and an enourmous size - ouch. It is some under-evaluation of this car. (this also might explain why my Ginetta always gets low points)

anyway, i have a thread some where in the photogallery where i have some pics if that my car acutally lifted up a rear and a front wheel.

anyway, i just took my modified 206 for a spin, and in the 3rd turn my left rear wheel lifted up....:sly: :dopey: :)

I have a number of them in my gallery as well.

You may want to go back and read my post again, I did not say that it did not happen, I said it did not happen in the same situation it would in the real world.

Cars such as the 206 or the 2.0 Clio are in reality quite easy to get on three wheels under hard cornering, however in GT4 its a lot more difficult than it should be.

Due to the fact that it can be used to win so many 200 A-spec point races and can be used to clobber all types of rally cars in Special Conditions, would it be considered a programming mistake. I've used it in enduros and such and won easily where cars that would seem to be more optimal couldn't cut it for 200 A-spec points. Does it have some sort of freak power to weight ratio or something.

I mean, obviously, the common Dodge RAM in real life isn't any sort of super vehicle. I know that most of you GT purists frown upon using the truck, so why was it given such a blessing of versatility by the GT4 creators (Dodge didn't pay them off, did they)? Although I haven't done exhaustive testing, in my estimation there doesn't seem to be any other car that can win so many different types of races as the Dodge RAM for 200 A-spec points? I'd say probably the Suzuki GSX-R/4 is next best and then the Chap 2J. If I'm wrong about the Dodge RAMs overall versatility, then please feel free to correct me and inform me of what other car is better.

Any thoughts on this.

(I did search, but I didn't find any topic on this. If so, I apologize and have the moderator delete this thread.)

A-spec points like weight. Weight appears to be the primary factor in determining A-spec points - over and above power or power-to-weight - and the Ram and all of its sister trucks have a hell of a lot of it. I think they just didn't take account of people wanting to put these behemoths in normal races.

Still, the Tank Car would have been a laugh.
The Jay Leno Tank Car is for straights only. You'll probably spin it in every:censored:corner.Unless ur a good driver!

Actually, the Tank Car isn't that difficult to drive. It's just ridiculously hard to get the power down in the car (especially since in real life it's supposedly not that fast). Definitely not competitive, and if you try to drive it as fast as, say, a Clio in a corner... yeah... you'll spin!

The Dodge Ram is a programming glitch in it's A-Spec points determination before each race. It has very little to do with it's PWR, weight or power. For example, if you do a stock Ram family cup, it will send you against Japanese Kei-cars and the like. This is a reference for the Dodge's travesty. Just another glitch, similar to the Ford GT glitch.

I'd also like to know a little more about this Ford GT glitch. I'm sure it has nothing to do with maximum A-spec points. And which model Ford GT are you referring to? I've never found the models I tried much good for anything other than basic run-of-the-mill motoring. They look nice, but that's about it. So reveal this secret. It might be useful for something after all.

For a little more background, including the story of how it ended up in GT4:

Anyone else find the following quote from that article intriguing?
The Gran Turismo people said "we need to record a Lamborghini Miura, a McLaren F1 and some other car sounds, and have you got anything?"
Lamborghini Miura? McLaren F1? Sounds like the PD folks were expecting to secure rights for these cars... I would have loved to have seen both of these amazing classics (old & new). :(

of corse its a programming error, there shouldn't be any dodges in the game at all![i am a devote chevy man and proud of it homeslice!]

Isn't the McLaren F1 in the game? I thought you win it from some Extreme Hall event...

No. That's the 1997 BMW McLaren FI GTR Race Car. Leno owns an original McLaren F1 which was a road car. The racecar versions followed, including the '97 GTR. There are significant differences, including the way they sound. They even lengthened the body which is why this version was nicknamed "Longtail GTR".

The original McLaren F1 has been one of Leno's favorite cars in his vast collection for a long time now, but unfortunately, it was not included in GT4.

Here is an excerpt from a recent interview with Jay Leno where he expresses his devotion to the McLaren F1:

Q: 3,000-mile road trip. Pick the vehicle and your co-pilot - it can be anyone, from any time or era.

JL: I would probably take the McLaren F1, because that's the greatest car there is! It's unbelievable - the top speed is 241 miles per hour and it's extremely comfortable. The thing that people don't know about the F1, is that unlike an Enzo or some other exotic, the McLaren F1 is totally drivable. It's a road car - it was designed to be a road car from the get-go.

I mean, it's smaller than a Corvette, yet I can hold three people in it and still have room for luggage. It weighs less than a Miata, and it has 627 horsepower. You sit in the center and because you sit in the center, there's enough legroom for drivers or passengers that are seven feet and taller.

It's actually one of the only cars that I drive where I find myself moving the seat a little bit forward before I take off. It's so comfortable, and I find it to be the perfect vehicle because people who know what it is see it and tend to go nuts, and people who don't know about it just don't know about it and leave you alone.

It isn't like the Enzo with a big long nose, where as soon as you're seen it in, you're labeled as the middle-aged guy with "that problem" in his life. The car just looks right, and it drives perfectly - everything about it is just right. There's no wing, there's no spoilers, it just does what it's supposed to do. It has normal road clearance, so when you go over a speed bump or come to a driveway, you're not tearing off half of the spoilers.

I drove the Ram at LeMans in the arcade mode just for grins, I had driven several other cars there & it was usually with other cars the same HP & weight.
With the Ram it put in a bunch of "city cars" with less than 50 HP each, I was just crusing & lapped 2 cars in 2 laps!
It didn't sound much like a Hemi either, it sounded more like my Ram with a Cummins diesel in it.

I just bought a Dodge RAM because I was having trouble finishing Hard Special Conditions dirt and snow races with my Mitsubishi Lancer GSR '92. It's definately more effective at brutalizing its way around the gravel tracks better than the 4WD sedans. I think I'll be using these types of utilities from now on in all the offroad races. They're very powerful, with good traction, accelerating fast in loose terrain, but hard to turn, which isn't much of a problem seeing as you go sideways and can bounce off the walls and keep your momentum up as long as you don't hit the barriers with the front of the vehicle. Maybe the gear ratio is extra close because it's a truck or perhaps other factors such as diesel powered engines influence the way the developers decided how it responds in the game, making it inexplicably superior. Who knows how the people who made the game decided how to interpret their data. It would be nice to see some super-realistic physics, taking all factors into account in future incarnations of these types of games in later generation consoles.

okay, now I know I must be completely incompotent. i can't get much farther than the medium Special conditions races with a FULLY TUNED Ram. I pulled off a medium level special cons at a Cathedral rocks only by the skin of my teeth. and I have the vid to prove it.

it's annoying to go into a kei race, and see that damn ram sitting there in second in the linup :P

tip: if you don't want the thing to show up in Kei races, don't go near it.

as for Mr. Dodge Bashing...lay off, the Mopar Men and fordaholics say the same thing about chevys. tho there should be more fords in there...american ones, there should also be more than just camaros and 'vettes, too
