Ok...GT5 has made me want to get a wheel. I'm stuck with roughly 4-6 ft between my bed and dresser (which is where my TV is).

Is this a good wheel? Could I build a rough mount for it out of wood? Where can I find it the cheapest (in the US)?

The only reason I'm asking this is because I just got a wall mount for my TV for Christmas and I tested a small setup with my old (and never used) wheel for GT4 and if I had a larger wheel, I'm sure it would feel great.

The DFGT is a decent wheel not much resistance on the brake pedal and a little noisy but it works well and drives nice. Mounts solid and the pedals hold well on carpet thanks to the fold down teeth on the bottom.

Last I saw Tiger Direct had a good deal on them but that was in Oct. try Google and see what you get.

I just got my DFGT for roughly a week now. totally no complains about it for the price. However, if you have a bigger budget, i would definately recommend getting something like the G27 with the clutch and H shifter.

Still find it hard to drift with the wheel though, normal races are a breeze!

How is the resistance in the wheel? Does it make much noise when you turn it? Does it automatically return back to "center" after you turn it?

The force feedback levels are adjustable. you will need a few days or even a week to get used to it. yes the wheel does re-center itself but you need to grip the wheel with a little str else the FFB will just throw the wheel around

It does pretty good. Fairly quiet when you turn it sometimes makes a bit of noise when you are in a corner but nothing you can't handle. The resistance is ok better if you crank it all the way up but then I am a bit spoiled from using my PWTS which is much stronger.

As for the return to center yes it does but not quite as strong as I would like. In a hairpin sometimes it will not return fast enough on exit and I have to assist it a bit the lower the FFB is set the more of an issue it would be but at max setting it is acceptable.

Overall it is a good wheel and if you are just starting out with the wheel it is a good choice. If you are coming from something like a Fanatec then you would be left wanting a bit more feedback but before I tried the Fanatec wheel I thought it was fine on the DFGT at the default setting of 5 now after using the Fanatec I wish it had a setting of 20 :)

As for the G27. I can't say as I do not have one but considering that Fanatec is fully supported and the G27 is not and that the high end Fanatec also works with teh Xbox I would have a hard time laying out that kind of money for the G27 and that is why I choose to go with the Fanatec instead. I still keep the DFGT as a backup.

I had a DFGT for a week and a half and it was great fun. My wheel had some form of freak malfunction though during the slalom test. It just locked up and the feedback was unresponsive. I've never seen any other case of this happening to one, hence the 'freak' part of the accident. Logitech said it was unrepairable too, so something major must have happened to it, and I only got a store credit refund as the things are sold out everywhere. I think I just got really unlucky, as everyone else's DFGTs seem to be unbreakable.

Anyway, great wheel (when it works) :).

Yeah the DFGT should be a good choice for the money, i ordered one myself. But as I read in this forum, the rotation angle seems not to be variabel, so you're stuck to the 900 degrees rotation. This is stupid i think, hope this will be adjustable later on in an update. Utherwise choose a Fanatec wheel, this has lots of adjustable settings and a great FFB so ive been told.

I made a platform out of wood that I attach my DFGT to and I can sit it on my lap while sitting in a chair.used 3 pieces of 1/2 inch plywood glued together so it's pretty heavy and doesn't move around.Bought a usb extension so I can sit far enough back on the big screen. Pretty sweet setup.

agree 100% with everything you said. it is deff worth the money but if you have more to spend get the G27. i also found it hard to drift with the wheel but i really haven't messed with the suspension for drifting yet so i can't be sure on that.

I have the DFGT since september 2010, and I'm very happy with it. Force Feedback is ok, It's not so much noisy, the brake pedal has little resistance, but when you get used to it, you can handle it. It's a very good wheel considering that it don't cost so much. 👍

The rotation is fully adjustable when attached to the PC. When on the PS3 the game controls it and it does a very good job of it. Some cars have tight steering like the karts, the F1s and the X1 and others are looser. None that I have seen use the full 900 degrees more like 360 or so which is actually less than a real car would have so if this is to much maybe you should use a controller.

Yes the Fanatec has awesome FFB. Enough to hurt you at times. It is reccommended that you set the rotation adjustment to OFF for GT5 which allows GT5 to contolr the wheel and get get the exact same amount of rotation as you would with the DFGT which is how the game is intended to be played.

It's a good wheel although the force feedback is too strong on the minimum setting, you can't turn it off either. This is made worse if you make the terrible mistake of buying the Supido steering wheel mount as the FFB just rocks it all over the place. I'm going to get that new $600 one and a proper seat to go with it, makes the game sooooo much better with a proper set up.

My DFGT came yesterday. Of coarse I have to get used to it, but I must say it's a fine wheel. I don't miss the adjustable angle, GT5 does a good job the way it uses the wheel. I do find the dead zone too much at times, but it seems it depends alot what car your driving. With dead zone a mean the spot in the center where the FFB doesn't seem to be present. The wheel DOES steer precisely in this spot, it's like a spot where suddenly the FFB is gone, no resistence, kind of wobbly feel.
Second the FFB is kind of grainy, not smooth, I think this is the motor itself thats strugling to turn against the human force.
In my opinion the wheel is capable of doing it's job well, it's the software (GT5) that should have more adjustable settings, so you can do more fine-tuning, like adjusting the dead zone, and dampening.
I prefer GT5 adjusting the wheel for you, so it gives a different feel to each car you drive, above a fixed setting like the Fanatecs, even though you can have 5 settings in memory. As I said, GT5 only should have more fine-tuning posabilities, that would really make it a best buy for the buck.

Not tried another wheel before to compare but I've found this to be a great buy! Only thing that annoyed me was that in gt5p you could use the red dial to scroll through horizontal menus which was useful and in gt5 you can't.
My set-up is wheel attached to desk, pedals on top of a box under desk. ( old CRX seat attached to office chair base as seat :D )
