I recently heard that the Venom GT had run 270 mph but there is a dispute over whether or not it is legitimate. Can someone clarify this for me?

Not legitimate according to Guinness world records because you have to do two runs, from which an average top speed is calculated. They only did one run.

Also not legitimate because they don't make enough cars for it to be officially considered a production car.

But in real terms, yes, especially considering the fact that they did it on a much shorter, much rougher piece of tarmac than what was available for the Veyron.

The only thing that dosen't sit right for my with regards to the venom is its not a ground up build like the Veyron. Its a Lotus exige or elise thats been made wider so they can fit massive tyres on it & thrown in a massive powerplant.
Don't get me wrong anyone who can make a road car do 400k+ has achieved something special. But if I had to do 400km in a car I'd pick the Veyron over the Venom.
