Didn't wnna start a new thread for it..can someone tell me how to switch to cockpit. Just got gt5 and csr wheel today.

You will probably need to re-map some of the buttons. I'm not sure what wheel the CSR is mapped to in GT5, but my GT3 is recognized as a DFP. I didn't need to change the view button, that was always Select, right below the D-Pad next to start. But of course the CSR's button layout may be much different than the GT3's. Best place to ask on GTP is in the Sim Hardware forum.

The blinking number is an annoying aid we should be able to turn off. Ruins standard cars' cockpit views.

The minimap is 2 aids -- 1 aid for people who can't remember the track and 1 aid that helps make up for the game's poor visibility and inconsistent sound(unless it's really loud on a surround system).

Poor Visibility???

It has the best visibility of any console game ever! (and GTHD and GT5p).

Some times it is hard to see from the interior (I have no way of looking left and right).

Very poor visibility and sound as regarding pinpointing the cars around you when compared to the real thing. No game comes close on the vision front due to peripheral vision and eye movement, at least without an elite monitor setup.

Some games counter this with annoying little arrows floating around the bottom of the screen. GT5 does it with a close-up minimap, at the cost of a bigger chunk of the screen.
