Is the Logitech MOMO racing wheel supported?

i have force feedback on yes. But i dont feel it to be stronger than any other game. The only buttons i cant find is to change view when driving. except that everything works.

Sorry, I may not be explaining my question correctly. I have feedback in the wheel, which feels good, but I also have a "centering force" that is a constant pull towards the neutral position, that I think is too strong and is sometimes overwhelming the normal FFB.

If you wouldn't mind a test, could you go in to the game, stop the car completely, and then turn the wheel all the way to one side? I feel that if you turn the wheel all the way to one side while the car is stopped and let go of the wheel, the wheel should STAY in that position. For me, it does not. Instead, it immediately rotates back to neutral. This seems wrong to me, and I'm just wondering if anyone else is seeing it with the MOMO.

Thanks!

I have tested some more with the red Momo, quite good news. The buttons can be configured using the Force GT option in the wheel configuration. However, I couldn't assign the lower buttons (the two white ones).

The force feedback is good and differ from car to car. On some circuits I couldn't feel driving over the curbstones, but on other I did. I don't think it's wheel related.

The wheel doesn't automatically center by the way. By the way, I have done the 'squash ball mod' on the pedals, can recommended to everyone.

That's awesome news, thanks. 👍 GT4 didn't support the Red Momo, so i was quite nervous about GT5 support.

We had the day before the Fanatec GT3 RS arrived, 2 MoMo's hooked up!

Depicted above is when one of the MoMo's (mine) was replaced. Unfortunately the Fanatec isn't mine, but if you have $300 laying around its worth the buy with the clubsport aluminum force-feedback pedals. FFB on brake pedal is crazy is just one of many!

Anyhow getting off subject....

Can someone who has used the MOMO in GT5 or GT5p help me out?

EDIT: On further experimentation, I do feel something in the wheel sometimes when hitting rumble strips, but it is very slight compared to what I'm used to in other games.

You need to go into Wheel settings (far left option) and crank up the Force feedback to 10 to feel close to the force feedback you get in GTR2 or related. Even then it might even seem a little weak, but alot better.

Also set it to Professional, and turn off Speed assist if you can keep your straights stable.

If somebody figures out how to use all the 6 buttons (and the side shifters), I'd be really happy if they could post the details on how to do that.

Currently, I'm using the GT profile, and only 4 red buttons work.

From what I found I can only assign the top 4 I believe from the GT Force (blue handled wheel) layout. Bottom 2 I'm trying to figure out their key mappings if any under other profiles.

Everything else works straight if you map your assignments properly in GT Force setup.

Please Take note all MoMo Users where the auto calibration kicks in on boot of PS3

BIG BIG pointer though regarding the MoMo....DO NOT and I repeat DO NOT leave it plugged in when starting up play station, something with the start up of the wheel (auto calibration) some how messes with (what I'm guessing a power fluxuation with) the SATA controller on the PS3.

Everytime I start up with the MOMO hooked up my HardDrive isn't being detected. It caused my last one which has been fine until this game and I started using the MoMO religiously. Before I would only hook up wheel after PS3 was started and in GT5:P. My Harddrive crashed at level 13 (go figure) since I kept firing up the PS3 with the MoMo attached.

So in effect:

Since I had to buy a new HDD I decided to experiment and use a Corsair Force Pro Series Solid State 80GB. What I'm seeing with that is speeds that are noticeable for installed content already. In certain realms in comparison you cut around 2-5 seconds in most loading type menus. Sometimes in the middle of loading a track (offline) the progress bar shows halfway to 3/4; and it will be done.

If you do decide to do this and if your HDD does crash, a Tip:
  • you need to make sure it has an "auto-trashing" feature similar to TRIM in Windows 7 for SSD's). The only ones I'm aware have this feature are the Corsair Force Pro Series and OCZ Vertex. There's probably others out there, but I can a test its working in mine for more then a week now. But be sure to backup data just in case!
  • Another pointer in Formatting, be sure to only do quick format as the operation for a full format will fail due to it being a flash drive literally. I performed the whole job twice and it kept failing. So take my wasted 20 hours (2x 8hrs 50min + various hours troubleshooting, cursing, regretting, etc, etc), when it worked the first time doing a quick format for the hell of it, and loading game once already. In taking a buddy's advice that "No, No, you need to fully format it to make sure it does it right". Usually I'm in favor of that since I work in IT now for 8+ years, but there's also don't fix unless broken adage that I like to weight in favor when outside of work ;)

ahh knowing the red momo works put me at ease now. Gonna buy one off craigslist today. I was scared it wouldn't work since I read it didn't in GT4. Glad it does.

Odd... never had a HDD problem, and I keep my MOMO plugged in all the time. I just have to re-assign the sixaxis to controller 1 each time I boot, so that I can use both. Haven't tried calibrating, because the wheel, pedals, side shifters, and a few buttons work by default; anything else, I just use the controller (i.e. menus, etc).

Glad it works, though, and it saved me a bundle of cash, not having to dish out for a G25 or better. :)

red momo indeed works. Except the one I got, it centers a bit to the left. Can this be fixed? calibrated or soemthing?

Could you go into how you set the buttons, as in what buttons/colors correspond to the force gt buttons.

I'm using the black momo. It is partially working using the GT force profile.

Force feedback is ok (set as 10) on general wheel options.
Only 3 of 6 red buttons are working, the left middle is the "start", top right turn on/off whippers and middle right is set to Reverse gear.

The shift stick is not working, only the shift paddles are.

Pedals are ok although I can't figure how to setup dead zones by now.

false, i leave my black momo in all the time, and my ps3 is fine.

Well I came to find that with several PS3 versions (2x 40gb models and 1x 60gb) this seems to be a problem (Mostly intermittent with the 60gb). If its not happening to you then good, but it doesn't make it false? What kind of answer is that. Just because it doesn't happen to you doesn't mean the warning isn't valid. Also could mean there's a bigger problem with these systems too.

As a precaution we found that plugging in the wheel in after the game has started seems to be best practice. Plugging it in after game has started also avoids confusing controller assignment for the Dual Shock controller which you will still be able to use for various functions you can't use the wheel to control. There fore the controller stays at assignment 1 and you don't have button conflicts that I've also found to happen, namely the X button and at times horizontol controls on the D-pad.

Also just trying to help, so if you want to be a forum troll and refute these findings (based on your individual experience with no testing of 6 other systems slim and other) that others might find useful, be my guest.

Alright well Im using the black Momo racing wheel.
Dissappointed with only paddle shifters to shift with but I can deal with that.
The only problem is when sometimes when Im driving in a straight road, I cant keep the car centered as it steers to the right on its own sometimes.

Any solutions?

Slight bump.

Yeah, I'm using the black momo too, shifter doesn't work, and sometimes the center alignment slightly changes after a couple of races during the race, which is quite irritating. Hopefully there's a solution for it.

I'll try re-assigning the buttons tomorrow, thanks to the people who suggested on what wheel configuration to use. :)

Turn max right then max left. this seems to calibrate the wheel.

I found after doing 2+ laps at Nür 24H wheel at times seemed off to the right. Hitting start in a straight section then maxing out left and right with wheel helps!

Glad I found this thread. I've had this wheel for a while and used it for gtr2. It's good it works for gt5 as well. I too have experienced this straight line wander as well. I have turned it to Simulation which seems to help.

I wish they did a better job of the wheel's in this game though like with calibration and what not but hey.
