Is there a way to force XP to be less stupid for laptop power settings?

Something I have always loathed about XP (and loved about Vista) is that XP seemingly refuses to remove the underclock settings from running on battery power when the laptop is plugged in. For example, instead of glorious 575 core 700 mem for the GPU, I get a piddling 200 core 300 mem all the time. I have fiddled with the laptop power modes, I have turned off Powermizer, I have pulled out the battery. And I still don't know, short of brute-forcing the low power clock rate up with RivaTuner, how to get it so Windows XP will allow me to actually use my graphics card. Is there a way?

Is it in the BIOS?

Answering the core question, "Is there a way to force XP to be less stupid", the answer is undoubtedly "no".

NEvermind. A day of fiddling and I found it out. Since XP apparently isn't advanced enough to handle it itself like in Vista and 7, it was actually an option nVidia drivers.
