Is there a way to put the top up on the convertible cars? I have a S2000 and I want to put the top up, can it be done in GT4? (maybe w/GameShark?) Thanks.

If you go into arcade mode/single race, and select the S2000, you should be able to select if you want the top up or down.

The top will always be up in GT Mode races where there are 6 cars racing, and always down in photomode.

Not in practice mode.

Races that are in the special conditions allow you to race w/ the top down.
And like mentioned above, any GT races with a full race grid the car will have the top up.

I think in practice mode (unless you are racing with other cars on the track) the convertavle top will be down.

on the normal mode when you buy cars the top always goes down when you race by yourself, e.i. practicing at Fuji and the top also comes down on rallies! hope this helps

in photomode does it ask if you want to have the top up or down?? correct me if im wrong
No, it doesn't :( , but you can get around this. :)

Want the roof down in your photo? Do a Free Run lap to take the photo from.
Want the roof up in your photo? Do a lap from a full-grid race to take the photo from.
👍

I agree with the Casio and Paragon for all other situations, and I think the roof is up in Race Meetings, but correct me if I'm wrong. :dopey:

Yes. Apparently the PS2 doesn't have the power to process more then 2 cars without roofs. So in race meetings, the roof will be up.

So to summarize this thread.

Roof Down:
Photomode in GT Mode
Selecting 'Roof Open' in Arcade mode Single race

Roof Up:
Races with more then 2 cars.

Now all of you go run Week 50 of the WRS where you can race with the Top Down! 👍

So why can't you race top down in GT mode? THe game seems to handle multiple open cockpit LMPs just fine, and even 6 F1 cars, which are open cockpit AND open wheel. The Suzuki GSX/R can even be used, and that has a regular car interior. This has bugged me ever since GT3, which was rumored to have top down racing for a while.

you can select the roof up, in arcade mode. The race cars don't have much of the interior to show, so thats why they can show those cars.

FUN FACT: The RE Amemiya RX-7 is the only non-convertible car that the driver's head still moves around.

All of those also all have very tiny interior openings (the GSX/R 4 has the left side of the interior covered), so you really can't see aything but the steering wheel in the car.

Compared to this:

What I want to know is why you cant use the Prowler or Super 7, since it apparently doesn't matter about the top with two cars on-screen (I know you can race the Prowler in arcade mode, because I've raced an S2000 at Green Hell before, and the Super 7 against an Esprit at Motegi).

i was actually going to ask about the prowler...

if someone knows, im interested as well. :)

How can you tell?
I looked at it........:odd:

Toronado makes a very good point, true convertible cars have a far more detailed interior and more open architecture, so they require more graphics power (if that's what limits their usage). Cars that do not have roofs at all are generally less detailed, with the Caterham Super Seven being the exception. The rule is, if the car has a roof and there's more than two cars on the track, the roof will be up.

Another point here is, when you're using a car without a roof like the GSX/R4 or the Caterham, I bet there's never more than one other roofless car. So, the graphics engine never has to handle more than two open cars. The exception here is LMP cars and the F1 races, but as Toronado said, none of these cars have detailed interiors.

Yeah. Nowadays most come with a button on the dashboard which should do the trick. Some of the older convertibles needed a bit more manual labour though. Anyway, the owner's manual should tell you. It's a worthwhile trick to learn since it stops your car from filling up with water when it rains :D

Oh! Oh! About Dark Elite's point: I believe I have raced against more than two GSX/R-4s in the Suzuki Concepts series. As for the graphics engine power and small openings, it may be significant that the open top cars that you can race against in a 6 way battle are usually inclosed to the extent that you cannot see much cockpit movement from the vantage point of your own racecar. When racing against FGTs, for instance, you don't see anything of the other drivers apart from their head from your own viewpoint.
