Is there a way to slow my connection speed to have better online experience

I had cable broadband before with an old 802.11b router.. usually upload speeds were around 1 to 1.5 max

I found I was entering races with not too many people and it was more fun...

Recently I got Fios from Verizon and they gave me a router 54M 802.11g ..

I ran speed test and can get 15m down and 7up.. super fast for internet..

but now I get on races with at least 12 people all the time.. often I'm hosting.. but the races suck now....

It seemed I actually had a more enjoyable racing experience on the slower connection just as it says...

I've put my old wireless router on but is there a way to actually slow my speed to get better gaming experience.. I can't stand the current online play without private rooms.....

I have a fast connection and have had lots of races with only a few other racers. I think it just depends on when you are online and what races. I even had a couple of races with just one other racer just a couple of days ago.

You could download a film while playing GT that would slow it down but there not a way to choose your speed, You should be happy you have good internet lol.

Only your ISP can cap your connection. Not something I recommend though!

Not true. If set up properly, a router can limit the QOS (quality of service) of the ports being handled, in this case the PS3's GT5P ports essentially limiting the speed that GT5P can talk to the other *racers. It depends on what router is being used on how easy it is, but some quick research should yield some positive results.

Speaking from experience with trying this, though: Don't worry with this. It does not have an effect on how many people are in your race. Even with the changes applied to throttle my connection speeds (to insanely slow, sub dial-up speeds), I would end up hosting 12 car races.

*Note: I have no idea how Sony's servers choose the host / match the racers, but it is not a factor of how fast GT5P can talk to the other racers, more your overall connection speed from what I can tell.

They are probably paying more attention to latency (how fast you can exchange very small amounts of information), rather than overall connection speed. Latency is much more important for most types of online gaming.

I have a 10mbit down / 1mbit up cable modem, but don't host all that often, most likely because I often have other services running of several systems in the house eating up some of my connection.

How much you pay for FIOS? just for the ONLINE? Sorry its out of topic question haha I just wonder because I need something faster for Online gaming :)

Don't get me wrong, I like high speed internet in general.. I was just stating what I observed from when I first started playing and also the message that scrolls when its matching up about slower speeds having a better experience.
with 12 or more people its like bumper cars out there....
