Is there a way to turn on subtitles with DirecTV? I can't seem to find it anywhere

I checked the manual and remote options, can't seem to find it.

Does anyone know how to turn subtitles on?

Yeah that should be an option on the TV itself not in DirecTV. Go up to your TV and look for a menu button, and of course push it, then see what it gives you from there and try to figure it out from there.

suggestion, there is an option on my Series 3 TiVo to turn on/off subtitles and it's also on my TV. Talk about a cluster on my screen if they are both on.

I've got DirecTV and I believe that I have the HR20 receiver. Here's what I do to control Captioning through DirecTV:

Menu---->Parental, Fav's, & Setup---->System Setup---->Display---->
This leads to a window with three tabs at the top:
Preferences|Captioning|Clock

Move up and select Captioning. You can select from various options, including On/Off, Font, Text Size, and Text Color.
