is there a way to hook up the ps2 to your computer for making videos of gt3 via firewire? i have a firewire port and since you can get videos off of a camcorder to your computer, i would think there would be a way to get it through firewire. thanks.

Im sure theres a way. People I beleive have done it and posted on how to do it. Try clicking that search button. It comes in handy.

But anyways, Welcome to GTP, jamzz. Have fun, and don't post spam.:D

I doubt it will work without somehow installing some kind of firewire driver for the hardware. The firewire port was designed for system linking games (i-link), and not for video output. You can get video on you computer by getting a video capture card, this is a pci or agp video card that accepts yellow (video), red and or white (audio) wires so that you can capture your ps2's video output. Some good cards accept s-video. I have an ATI all in wonder card and it does all of this for me.

you will require an Xport. Do a search on this site and you should find something. It isn't too hard I don't think.

No, you can't transfer videos from the PS2 to the PC using Firewire. That works with camcorders 'cos the camcorder has made the video. All you're doing is transferring the video file over the firewire connection. The PS2 has not made any video files. It needs to output the picture to a display or PC TV card input.

No, you do not need an Xport to make videos. The Xport enables you to transfer the PS2 replay file to the PC. You cannot make that into a movie. All you can do with that is send it to someone lese so that they can transfer it to their PS2 to watch/chase it.

I think thats one of the most common misconceptions about the Xport/Sharkport. I thouth that too, but quickly learned other wise.

Though if your on dialup a 20k-150k save file is eaiser to upload to the net than a 4meg-30 meg video.

What kind of card is it? I have a 9600 XT with s-video OUT is there some way I can get software for it to work in the opposite direction?

Nope. The card has to have that function built in. I've got a 9600XT too but mine has ViVo (Video-In Video-Out).

ah, corrected by a newbie. Oh well, it's a topic that I only have a passing knowledge of, as my PC and PS2 are so distant, it has never been a personal interest.

He's not particularly newbie - only to this site... :D

Either's good.

Go check some F1 times at GT3Times, or Racing-Line...

Lol I wouldnt feel bad. Bobkart schooled me when I inquired about this same thing.

Congrats Jamxx on getting the video capture card.

one way you can do it is to actually film the tv screen with a decent camcorder as you play a replay on your console, and once it has recorded you can transfer this to you PC via firewire. I have done it and got some good results.

i do wish there was a way to do it directly with firewire but there aint...your console doesnt have a firewire port...that should be a big clue.:D
