is there any cars that can put up with Skylines?

Well, I think the Skyline is great up around 600-650 hp. You can pull good lap times and not worry about the corners as much. The weight will obviously be a problem. The thing is, if I had a choice in real life, the skyline would be awesome. It's got the real world driveability that you need, with a rocket of a motor when you're out to have fun.

The Skyline GT-Rs are indeed over rated but they are good, it can't be denied. Every design is flawed however. If it makes you feel any better my GT-R can't seem to beat the Laguna Seca lap records created by the Lotus Esprit V8 SE (an MR with cruddy brakes) and the Dodge Viper GTS (a weighty FR).

Please don't recommend LM race cars, race cars are so horrible... Stick to street!

One piece of advice for those who decide to tune a GT-R and use a 2-way or custom LSD; weaken the brakes. This is one of the key aspects of tuning that made my GT-R as good as it is. If you decide to go open differential the brakes will need to be fairly strong.

Not with you on that one... I preffer race cars to road in most situations. Skyline race cars are actually really awesome.(nice torque*) I wouldn't put them on "the list" higher than the other big gt cars, but they can still run with the best. It's not really cool what polyphony did when they ended up making the big jgtc skylines into the slow pokes of the gt500. Oh well, nothing I can do, well actually, I might be able to put down some good times with one some day, but I doubt it.

Anyway, Im watching my hometeam LSU play for the national football title... back after they take the win! :trouble:

btw, dolbytone, live4speed, some good points there fellas. ;)

Having lived in Japan for over a year now, I now see that the Skyline was not Nissans best invention, it may look good, but comparitavely
Skyline is to Nissan as Camaro is to Chevy

It's a high performer but it's not the best of the bunch,

And in GT3, my stock evo7 totally smokes my stock GTR34

What is Nissans top car then if it wasn't the Skyline, the R390 doesn't really count as it was a one off so it could go to LeMans. That's always been their top sports car, the R33 was better than the 300ZX the R34 was better than the 350Z, then next performance flagship though, the GT-R isn't here until 2007 and now the Skyline isn't the flagship for performance because Nissan has changed the name of it to the GT-R only and the current Skyline is a luxury car that you can get in coupe hatch and estate variations.

Wash your mouth out with soap, young man, and don't let me ever hear those words out of you again!

Prepare to have a dozen fourteen-year-olds sending you hate PMs.

Right now, if you do any reading at all on Tokyo's street racing/drifting/JGTC/track racing, etc scene, you'll see that the 350Z is Nissans current favorite car, not only does it out perform the Skyline in power and handling it costs almost 10,000USD less than a Skyline

Nissan Skyline GTR34 in Okinawa is 40,000 fully loaded
Nissan Skyline R34 Type M in Okinawa is 25,000 fully loaded
Nissan Skyline V35 in Okinawa is 30,000 fully loaded
Nissan 350z in Okinawa is 32,000 fully loaded

The 350z is Nissans new baby and they are almost too proud of it, in a recent email they even tried to steer me away from buying a Skyline in favor for a 350z.

Hope that answered your question

You can say some cars are better than GT-Rs all you want and it's true but you can never say they suck because, well, it kinda contradicts history and truth.

Just doing a couple of laps at each of these tracks I can easily manage these times with a GT-R34 using universal settings:

Apricot Hill - 1'15.682
Laguna Seca - 1'16.479
SSR5 - 1'17.279
Trial Mountain - 1'21.444
Cote d'Azure - 1'29.723
Grand Valley Speedway - 1'44.156

Keep in mind that I can most definitely get faster times on any of these tracks if I do only a few more laps. I guess my point is is just that just because you don't know how to tune heavy AWDs doesn't mean you are allowed to knock the car, even if it is overrated (it is...). I will admit that I am more a fan of FRs than AWDs, but you simply aren't giving credit where it's due, that's all it is.

hey your trial mountain time is kinda low for a GT-R. my 86SS pulls a 1:19:7xx's best is 1:19:1xx. but in a 10 lap run i pull 1:19:high all time.

Yo, just noticed some of the times posted, and of course remembered what a horrible skyline racer I am, so I went into the weekly series archives and found this. ;)

btw...

also. :D I notice that all of the remarks about my lacking tuning & skill with the skyline has stopped.

Ah, good job, I thought mine was good at Trial Mountain but I can't keep the time under 1'18 now. I think it's time I bother to tune a custom LSD or try out open differential again and tighten braking cuz I can't seem to keep stability when I want to sometimes.

I'm no Takumi Fujiwara but even keeping that in mind I was unable to manage any time under 1'21 I think it was. I may have to have a sit down with that car. I've been busy with my GT40.

I guess what I don't get GoKents is why you knock the Skyline so hard and even say it sucks when you prove to yourself it doesn't? It may not be RGT or Esprit but it surely is a commendable car.

Skylines are fast...1:04 at midfield...but an espiit,RGT,and probally a CTR2 can outrun it. It's not a perfect car. Detuned to 500-600 hp it can't even compare o an NSX. I bet even the MR2 can outrun it. Well maybe. Try it and see.

First off, I didn't prove anything to myself... I already knew what I had done in skylines before meeting the likes of you. However, did I show anything to any one else?

This is just one of the side affects you get when you jump on someone's ass for an off the cuff comment...

I never even got to give a full and honest opinion of the skyline, rather, I gave a quick remark in response to "skylines are the best in the game" and ended up having, you specifically, jump on my ass and start to *****ing. (along with a list of times to emphasize the message)

Frankly, since that point, I didn't give a damn about the car or anything of that sort, I just wanted to see what you would think about my "lacking tuning skills" after I showed what I could actually do. (even if it was in a 4wd skyline.)

It's sorta like another thread up right now in which everyone knocks the american cars of gt... I don't love the viper or vette any more than most of the other cars in the game, but when I know they can be awesome racers, and I've got a bunch of arrogant people telling me how bad american cars are... well :irked: it pisses me off.

Sorry if you ended up getting the brunt of this sort of thing, but Im sure you realize why it happend.

And I should mention.
The skyline is a cool car. Fast and fun, there's no doubt that the skyline can make a fast road or race car. However, like most others it has faults. With the faults being over looked, someone had to point them out. A lack of handling and a hefty weight bring the skyline back to earth, and I was just pointing that out.

Awesome... indeed no hard feelings.

Glad thats worked out. :D

btw, you guys need to keep an eye out for my oreca replay thats coming out soon. Not super fast, but still an impressive time from an oreca.

Back later...

Judt bought a ford mustang.

At Stock its got some serious wriggle so im looking forward to seeing it tuned. Feels quicker than the skyline but no doubt isnt.

I love the skyline, but i think its more of a want but can't have because i'm guessing most of the people on this bored don't have access to a skyline because they live here in the states. Every import magazine that i read hails the skyline to be some king of all cars so i think thats were alot of htat comes from.

Now if any of you read Sport Compact Car you will know that every year it hosts an ultimate street car challenge. And every year there is a skyline voted in. It has never won, i think the best it got was a 3rd place in the past 3 years.

Also i f you watch some of the best motoring stuff they always compare cars and i have seen supras and rx-7's beat on a skyline and the other way around.

Just my 2 cents.

The Skyline gets it's praise not for being the fastest, but because of the whole package, the technology in an R34 is amazing, it's a blast to drive, the older R32's and R33's are still great cars today, terchnically and performance wise.

I am actually fond of driving the Mustang close to stock including stock suspension. Dunno why it's just fun! Especially with a 2-way!

Oh and I should mention I did tune a custom LSD on my GT-R, I forgot what exactly at though... It does help, I can see the weakness of 2-way on AWD is bigger than I originally thought.
