Hi.

But the 2005 M5 has got 500 +- some bhp. So 449BHP seems a little bit wide of the mark.

Welcome to the automotive industry... very rarely does a production car actually meet the specs of the concept. The concept is more what the car could be like as opposed to how it's going to be.

That pretty much sums it up. As visual, I don't think its any different between, production and concept design on the M5. There is prolly small changes, really small changes within the styling perportions.

No visual difference but they arn't mechanically the same.

"one concept M5, one production M5"

I am quite happy that they included both because Im not so keen on the styling of the concept M5, but I love the older one.

Strictly speaking the new M5 (production model) has both 400 and 500 bhp.

When the car is started the default power setting is 400bhp, the driver must press a button marked 'Power', which then allows the ECU to access the full 500bhp.

Bizzare, but totaly true and not an option I expect to see in GT4.

Aren't they both the new 5 series bodies?

True the Concept was dropped for the production model. but according to the US site the Concept version is in there with the Production, However the site is run by monkeys so ya never know.

I have not seen any other M5 than the one in the dealer, nor have I seen it mentioned anywhere in the prize cars. I've completed all races in GT mode but 3 endurances races too (which it is not a prize car there, I am sure).

Nor has it appeared in arcade....

I think someone made it up. The only BMw M models in my version (NTSC-J, Japanese) are;

M Coupe '98
M3 '04
M3 csl '03
M3 GTR '03
M5 '05
M3 GTR race car '01

Maybe it's a new car for the US or PAL versions...but it aint' in the NTSC-J version.

that is usually what the automotive industry does, but in this case, BMW simply brought out the M4 concept to show off their engine so it wasn't really a concept but a rush job to get the new M5 out there for publicity unlike say the BMW X Coupe was which was basically the car behind all the new BMW designs, and in this case, the production version actually exceeds the concept, 505hp for the production and 493 for the concpet, little difference but still there

all new BMWs derive their design from this car:

I think there is only 1 M5.

The list on the site refers to the M5 Concept of 2004 and the Production Model of 2005.

They've done the same with Ford GT.

With the Ford GT there are a few versions. I think there is a "concept '02" and a '04 or '05 model...plus the LM model and 1969 model....

Theres one version of the Ford GT40, thats the LM version as seen in GT2,3 and GTC.
Theres 4 different versions of the GT, the concept car, the road car which is bought or can be won in different colours, the GT LM, similarpaint scheme to the GT40 LM and the GT LM spec 2 (the white GT race car with the wing as seen in the Japanese opening vid).
