A friend of mine has a 1991 Toyota Corolla beater, and he loves neutral drops. The poor car has suffered through a rough total of 50 or so drops, and still runs and shifts just fine. I suppose it's a testament to the reliability of the transmission...I'm curious to see how much longer it holds out.

Toyota has killer reliablity, all of thier cars do...I mean, take a look at any HiLux. The team of UK TV show Top Gear did everything to one, and it just kept going! The put it in the Bristol Channel, put it on the roof of a building that was destroyed, set it on fire, drove it into buildings,....

I feel like "dad the mechanic". On tranny drops, on fwd cars, there are many things that can happen. CV shafts break, tranny's falling off the engine and handgernading. On the white smoke, I believe that the Daytonahas a 2.2l engine. They love to blow the head gasket and that also means that it has cracked it's head. Only way to fix it is to get a new head. sorry.
P.S. I work in a machine shop.

so your saying that if you blow your head gasket it means you also have cracked your head:odd:
i dont think so, it is a possibility but its not a certain (cracking the head)

im talking about engines in general, not just the 2.2L

On the older 2.2 2.5 dodge heads, they always seem to crack between the valves. This dose not happen on all engines. Very few others crack. Dodge had a design flaw. They have seemed to have fixed it. We have a scrape bin full of the older heads.

yeah, i wouldnt know about the dodge head (im australian), i just took it like you where talking about heads in general. NP

Thats because they know how to build them downunder.
It is a good idea to get the head checked if the head gasket is blown. If it gets to hot, it might crack.

yes ofcoarse we in aus have alot of problems with ford alloy head 6cyl's. and early mitsubishi heads

the daytona he has is the 2.5L, and the funny thing is that he had the head replace like 5 months ago!! (warped head) I guess the daytonas are really bad for that!! also, was the 2.5L a mitsubishi engine?? i'm not sure why I think that.....

Only 5 months ago, there seems to be another problem here. Did he put on the head or have a shop do it? Did they use new head bolts?
The 2.2,2.5 heads are torque to yeald. That means that you CANNOT reuse the head bolts. They will not torque properly and the head will come lose, which will blow the head gasket.

My buddy owns a Ford Escort and has it under warranty. He used neutral drop it alot and went through 5 or 6 transmissions until the dealer finally realized that it was probably his fault and refused to cover any more, lol.
