Is this normal for a game five years car?

Well, the uncle, I think it's too long even for a Gran Turismo is a game for hire.

I'm sorry, I wasn't going to comment but this has completely thrown me.

I was willing to leave 'and so carcasses.' alone, but what's 'the uncle' got to do with anything ever?

Is this a crazy spanish colloquialism?

As nicky answered, yes. Spaniards call everyone "Tio" ("Uncle"), like saying "Dude" or "Man". Don't ask me why. Anyway, sorry for being off-topic .

Well, the uncle, I think it's too long even for a Gran Turismo is a game for hire. And I'll be honest, I will enjoy a lot with my G25 when I get out and appreciate the time spent to do this great colossus of the game. But I still think that is too long, in short, be up to me, my impatience and eagerness to get it than me drunk every day, thinking about running for that so many tracks and the impressive number of cars.

If that doesn't win a GTP award, then I think I'm going to have to close my account.

guys, they haven't been developing gt5 for 5 years. GT5P is not gt5

It counts. They built the game engine and were also working on track/car modelling.

Those two aspects are the most consuming timewise, so it's ok to say the game is been in development for 5 years.

I know it's painful to wait, but i want the game to be complete. If the release date is december of 2010, then i'll spend my time with God of War and NBA 2K10 until GT5 hits.

The more we follow a game, the worse it gets to wait. I wish we would get some news, but sometimes i think that would make things even worse.

In the end, all i hope is that PD spent their time to focus on what really matters.

hey people... relax. Go drink some beer, get laid.. do other stuff. When you less expect.. there will be GT5, then you will have no more free time to do anything :)

It's a bit of a coincidence that you compare the Gran Turismo & Final Fantasy franchises and say they are completely different. I can remember playing the first Gran Turismo and thinking how much it felt like a role playing game to me rather than feeling like other driving games that I'd payed.

You must not have played many RPG's then. GT is nothing like an RPG since there is no story, no character you assume the role of, and no levelling. About the only RPG characteristic in GT is the needless grinding it makes you do to get the item you want.

If they made GT an RPG though, it would be fairly epic.

I have no problem with GT5 taking 5 years to develop, so long as the final product justifies it.

The major issue I have ATM is the fact everything I've seen of GT5 so far could have been implemented into GT5P through DLC.

Until I actually see the promised features in action I'm no longer willing to give PD the benefit of the doubt, I get the impression much of their time has been spent building cars and tracks, now they are rushing extra features to keep up with the competition and demand.

I'm now not sure if PD are relishing or dreading GT5's release after building up such huge expectations, they'll have to go some way to blow the likes of Forza 3 out of the water.

Time will tell. We will either say.. "yes you can see where all the time went in this game", or we will know that Kaz spent most of his time in the Nissan board room eating noodles and talking about skylines.

Its ok, he's just jumping on the back of that article a while ago on gtplanet that compared GT to RPG games and claiming it as his own thoughts.

It's great that you know what I was thinking back in 1997 and it's considerate of you to take the time to explain that to everybody else too. I hope I'm allowed to admit this but I had no idea this site existed when I imported the Japanese Gran Turismo at launch and to be honest, I don't even think I had access to the internet then.

I think I explained what did really happen in my post where I said that "I" could remember playing it at launch and "to me" it felt like a role playing game.

If I'd read it on here and decided to make it my opinion my post would have instead contain the words "I read it on here and decided to make it my opinion", I didn't use those words as that wasn't what I was attempting to say.

Hey don't forget peeps, The Getaway 3, Eight Days & L.A. Noire are still in the works for release this year.Oh & Max Payne 3 too.Maybe these are affecting the GT5 release date.

This "holding back release to avoid conflicting with ________" idea worries me. Is there a single month due to occur in the next decade where a game or hardware release isn't scheduled?

GT5 - scheduled for release as soon as Microsoft and Nintendo go bust

I still don't understand how GT can even remotely feel like and RPG, other then then grinding I mentioned and possibly the massive amount of content.

You start with a very weak car (Hero) than you buy new wheels (weapons) and after tuning the engine (strange and charisma) you go for harder races (next level/world).
I see it more like the Pokemon concept ;)

Sorry for my English, I'm from Spain and my name is Ricardo, delighted to join this great forum and its participants.

Car A game that takes longer than 5 years out?, But that it should head.
It's a ****ing car game, not a Final Fantasy with a history that will endure over time and in memory of all, is not a Metal Gear that despite the years you like to play again for your story, good script , its epic moments.
A car ****ing game you have is to go out of fashion, and it comes out of it other than GT5 does not remember or Paco Lobaton.
It's like playing the Fifa 2002 now, why?, No story, there is nothing that motivates you to play because it's a damn football game and will play to the last and forget the past.

GT5 is an odyssey of a Yamahuchi determined to forge a masterpiece of a car game, will surely be an impressive game, but people forget about GT6 take out because there is no story, no characters, no situations that make you remember. Cars with good graphics but in a couple of years will be overtaken by a new set of cars that will pijaditas four more and better graphics, and so carcasses.
It is as if Fifa or Pro delayed in 5 years out, why so long?, Are a bloody football game and become dated by anything other than leave a year later. Such games can not be stretched so much!

I'll be the first to enjoy this great game, but I am very sorry that it has taken so long, what do you think about this? Is this normal for a game five years car?.

I understand your frustration with development time, however if you believe that GT5 will be overtaken by another console series in a couple of years, then I think that you have the wrong idea about the Gran Turismo series.

The wait can be brutal, but I'd rather it than a yearly release of what amounts to little more than an annual escalation of mediocrity...EA Sports (games which are seriously ugly and jerky compared to GT5 Prologue).

When it comes to game nostalgia, I think that you are taking your perspective and treating it as the only possible reality for the rest of us. I have several memorable events from the GT series, and have read enough in this forum to see that many others have as well. With all the changes and additions we are supposed to aquire in GT5, I foresee new moments that will far surpass those previous.

True it isn't a story driven game, but then I can play through a story driven game in a 1 week - 2 months (depending on schedule), and then it is on a shelf for years. If I do replay a game with an in-depth story, it would need:

•to be very engaging
•have an interesting enough alternate storyline
•I'd need to have almost completely forgotten the plot

That is my reality and my motivation with GT rests on driving and tuning hundreds of cars without getting my hands dirty. :)

There was a few things that made it feel somewhat like a role playing game for me when I was playing it, it's nothing complex and you've covered much of it yourself where you say that it is nothing like an RPG but then explain a couple of points as to why it has some similarities in the same sentence.

It's certainly not a role playing game as if it was it would have you playing a role, a character rather than just driving cars and customising them. Having said that, it's probably worth mentioning Squaresoft's Racing Lagoon which was an adequate RPG based around driving, in the battles you would essentially win XP by beating other drivers which would allow you to buy new equipment for your cars.

I've simplified Racing Lagoon horribly as it was far more enjoyable than I've probably made it sound here. I could probably name 100s of RPGs which I've played that I'd class as better but I've always been a fan of some of the smaller and more unusual Japan/Taiwan only RPGs which is why I enjoyed it.

It may be worth giving it a go though but it may well be a bit pricey as I got nearly £200 for my copy a few years back.

Don't say that! That means it'll never happen! :(

Forza 3 came out only recently, and with all the hype about COD MW2 and Battlefeild BC2 I wouldn't blame them for waiting. I reckon that they are just gathering some more smaller idea's for the game, or just waiting until nothing big comes out, for the big BOOM.

I dunno about you, but I don't relish waiting around for a 10-20+ Gigabyte file to download. Especially if I'm downloading it from PSN...

Time will tell. We will either say.. "yes you can see where all the time went in this game", or we will know that Kaz spent most of his time in the Nissan board room eating noodles and talking about skylines.

As opposed to combing his mullet, having hotdogs and beer and talking about Monster Trucks? Oh-kay...

I suppose we missed the million-and-one car shows, press conferences, race and track appearances, etcetera...

The head of the development team doesn't spend all his time sweeping the floors, y'know.

I still don't understand how GT can even remotely feel like and RPG, other then then grinding I mentioned and possibly the massive amount of content.

Hmmm... Start out with a weenie weapon (used car). Fight the easy enemies. Gain experience levels (money... and as of GT4... A-Spec and B-Spec points). Recruit and level up a henchman (he even has a name... B-Spec Bob) to make those onerous "Boss Battles" (enduros) easier.

Semi-Linear progression. You start at the novice races, then unlock the hard, then unlock the professional... then unlock the supers. The "Missions" are already a linear challenge.

Lots of side-quests. The endless dealership races, special challenges. License challenges.

Spamming levels to make battles easier. Do a few dozen "Like The Wind" races to gain lots of EXP... errh... Credits that you can spend on upgrades and new weapons. Of course, you gain more EXP... errh... A-Spec, if you use the "right" weapon to fight each battle.

Collector pron: Just like Pokemon or Diablo... the guy with the most weapons... errh... Pokemon... errh... cars... wins. You can even trade them memory card to memory card.

-

All that's missing is an identifiable lead character, a stern father figure to push you into racing, a spunky female sidekick or romantic interest, a clumsy mechanic friend (monkey optional) and a mysterious masked racer that you must beat in the final race.

If they let you choose character gender in GT5 (hmmm TT start screen, anyone?) it will have begun.

Aaaaaaaaaa :scared: Heart..Attack...call 911.....please...... :ouch:

Pokemon <> Gran Turismo

Pokemon = Nonsense, uncompromised with realism ( I never met a "pikachu" in my everyday trip to work ).
GT = Hardcore game for virtual petrolheads, fantastic machines and a decent degree of simulation.

Veredict: Pokemon - for kids. GT - for men.( and women who like motoring..)

EDIT: Your post was a joke....wasn't it? I hope it was....

I think five years is fine for what they are doing.

I wrote this on N4G,and it's probably been mentioned already but.

"Some of reasons it's taken 5 years are.
It's a completely new engine, there is not one line of code from GT4,which itself was derived from GT3 code. What PD are doing is creating a technological base for the next 10 years of GT,this engine will scale onto PS4,they even showed prologue spread across 4 Ps3's outputting at 3840x2160 and at 240FPS with little additional work needed,it was essentially a proof of concept (and showing new Sony tech)

http://www.N4G.com/gaming/NewsCom-233797.aspx?CT=1

This would allow GT6 to launch 2 years after 5,even launch on PS4.Also each car takes 6 months per artist,1 year per track spread over 4 artists.multiply the car count (around a 1000) and you have 4,382,906.39 man hours on just cars.
It would be a crazy huge task for any development team, especially when it's all in house.

Maybe the guys complaining haven't been gaming long,or don't appreciate the time it takes fully building a game, but 5 years is about right for what they are doing.GT1 took 5 years.but as it was unheard of,nobody could question why it was taking so long."

That's my view.I understand why people get annoyed but I see this as Kaz's legacy.I don't think he wants to keep doing this,I also feel after the first PS4 version he'll hand over the reins and let PD get on with it.

and i thinking my english was bad...:)

Pretty much was said already... the cars are porn made.. very high detailed, so we , hardcore and perfectionist fans ( such as his creator ) can be satisfied with the final results. What another car game you do spend your time just "seeing" the cars? I do. :P Hours of manafacture visiting, just to checkout the amazing details...

+1

Totally agree with you.
