They MAKE me grind because I can't buy cars that I like until I get to certain level.

They also make me grind because I don't receive credits for all my practising, hotlapping, nor does it allow me to create my own races, I am FORCED to repeat those A-spec races to get the credit I need to buy what I want.

I am now lvl33 and don't care the level progress anymore, but I still have to find the money to buy a F12007, and all the other sweet rides, as online races pay so little what can I do?? Grind those old races again, I can mix it up a bit, but frankly it gets old no matter what when you have to repeat it the 6th or 7th time.

restricting my freedom so that I can enjoy the game longer is an outright contradiction, players create their own experience, you open the resource up, they will go for it. What they are doing right now and forcing us to play it their way, and even if we grind through most of the content we are still pretty constrainted in what we can do. (why can't we make our own races?)

Luckily Seasonal race is a great relieve and I hope there are more of that.

I definitely understand and can relate to your situation, but you can trade cars, and if someone you know has the one you are looking for, ask them to dup it for you. Unless you're one of those hardcore "I have to get it legitimately" guys. Then you're screwed and will end up hating yourself in the end with your incomprehensible pride over a virtual object.

If you got the credits, you can get it for free anyways, which may be a good idea if you're looking to make multiple purchases in the future but may not have the crs. I'm not gonna pretend I haven't done it. It sure as hell makes things easier and I don't end up blaming the game because of it .

I certainly wont' hate myself over not having that car, hell it isn't my fault, I have beaten everything in the game except golding the vettel challenge, I just want the cars I want and I think I earned it.

Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying, you are wrong for trying to collect the cars legitimately------please JJ. I'm not gonna have this conversation with you. You're reading into what I wrote a little too much. I was simply offering a route you can take to ease your frustration you've been expressing over the game and the fact, (as you put it, not me, no misinterpretations here) that you have been forced to grind to afford certain cars (F1 2007). But that's neither here nor there, so look, you have your opinion, and I have mine. I believe that's all part of enjoying a game. Maybe you don't. But nonetheless, have fun with your angry grinding to achieve your leveling up/car purchasing, grrrrrr.

Enthusiastically, I started the first endurance race, took about 2 hours to complete.

I absolutely hate what they have done to the Gran Turismo legacy, I don't think I really enjoy anything about this game.

So you're saying this is your first go at GT? Grinding is nothing new. The only difference is that this one doesn't require you to grind early, instead you have to grind at later levels.

And, no, it won't take forever. Just do the Dream Car Championship and you'll be fine on leveling up, plus you'll have a ton of cash.

PD had a set average amount of time they wanted it to take for people to reach max level. The problem is that they skimped on the events a bit and are forcing the player to "grind" on events they have already completed. Things that could/should have been better are more events, being able to clear trophies for championships, being able to sell all cars from your garage. I think the last two would make high level A-spec less dull to many people. Personally I am not concerned with it as I'm only 23 A-spec and the only way I am leveling up any further is from online points because racing against friends is much more fun than racing against AI. As for money... B-spec = AFK money time. Sure it requires more laps per event, and the prizes may be less. But that's why you stick bob in a car he likes, start the race, and then watch tv or do something else. Hell try this for giggles, start bob on an endurance race and then go for a walk, go to a bar, socialize... You don't have to sit inside like a hermit with cabin fever who's only goal in life is to gain the next level... It's your choice. I enjoy GT5 as I have all passed GT games. Get high enough level and enough money to buy all the toys I want with all tracks unlocked, then I don't care about whether I'm max level or not. Play the game how it is fun for you and the other stuff will come on it's own with time.

Just my 2 cents even though this is like the 50th thread on this same subject/list of complaints...

They're lucky I enjoy the actual experience, although I have to admit, i've been skimming F1 2010 at the shops, and been thinking about popping GT4 back in the console.

I agree. I think that most of these threads will go away as people start finishing the game, or moving on to play something different. I'm looking forward to this forum mellowing out a bit.

I was even getting the impression that it was beginning to mellow out just before Christmas, but then once that rush came, chaos all over again.

The ones who want the easy way out don't understand that you shouldn't play the game to rank up or earn money, no, you play so you can drive some cool cars. The money and XP is there to make you work harder for the car you love. Is that a big deal? That you actually have to put effort into something? I can't go get a job at a company and expect to be CEO in 2 months. Progression in real life is slower than in a video game, so stop complaining and ENJOY THE DRIVE. In fact, you can win an F1 Championship, but hell, you won't get a free, undriven classic car because it's not possible. Save the cars damnit, quit the complaining and have some damn fun. Sitting on your computer and complaining won't make the game any easier, trust me. If you excuse me, I'm going to go back to cruising in GT5 now.

Welcome to the world of GT5.....Fanboys rejoice the king has arrived. Seriously I agree with you, that's why I'm currently only playing online a little and otherwise playing Fallout NW, FM3, and COD black ops. It could have been sooooo much better, the worst is that 90% of the issues are so simple, its hard to comprehend how PD messed it up.

It's not a problem specific to this forum, most forums have the same general problems of people not reading the rules, not checking to see if their particular subject of choice has already been mentioned and not actually reading a thread, just posting something someone else has already said a few pages ago...

PD did make it somewhat difficult to attain levels, but let's be honest here, why did PD implement a level up/point system that would take some time ? Because they want you too PLAY THE GAME ! I have a friend on my PSN who was level 27 before the game was out for 30 days. And most casual gamers when they achieve top level/prestige/ranking move on because it's complete and no longer challenging. PD wants this game to be played for a long time, they don't want you to just become level 40 in a month's time and then put the game down b/c there's nothing left.

I played GT4 pretty much from the day it came out until just a few months ago. (Over five years...) Completed the game 100% on three entirely different game saves, and another time about 95% completed. Did countless other game saves where I presented myself with various challenges -- for instance, one game I used no ASM or TCS ever (well, except for the licenses and missions where it couldn't be disabled). Another game I used the minimal number of cars that I could to complete the game. Two games were minimum game day 100% completions. One particularly interesting one which was a lot of fun and very challenging was a game where I could only switch to driving a particular car if I had just beaten that car in the last race. (That one forced me to use a lot of cars I'd never considered driving before.) Another game was where every race was for maximum A-spec points.

Basically, I'm one of the biggest GT4 fans ever. I easily got probably 1500 hours of gameplay out of it, and that's pretty amazing considering that for the entire five years the game has been out, I've had a full time job, a wife and two kids, and other hobbies and diversions as well.

By the way, completing GT4 100% without using B-spec takes probably at least 220 hours of play. It's not a game you can rush through. The first time I did it, it took me over 6 months. And what really could have been exciting about GT5 would have been having the same depth and complexity as GT4, but then add in online racing, plus online time trials and online events which rotate through, like they did with GT5 Prologue.

And as it stands today, GT5 sucks big time compared to GT4, and the level system is far and away the biggest reason why. It is a huge disappointment compared to GT, GT2, GT3, GT4, and Tourist Trophy (PD's motorcycle game). Note that I'm obviously not talking about graphics -- GT5 blows 'em all away. I'm talking about the game aspect. Having the game tell me that I'm still a long way away from being able to A-spec a 24 hour Endurance race, even though I'm over 90% completed -- sorry, that's a load of CRAP. And I've probably A-spec'ed more 24 hour endurance races than most folks -- probably did a dozen of them in GT4 over the past 5 years.

Hell, I even preferred GT5 Prologue to GT5. The events were more interesting in Prologue, and although there was a little bit of "grind" aspect involved with getting enough money to buy the F1 race car, I didn't mind it that much. Yeah, there were less cars, but most of the ones that were present were actually pretty interesting. 75% of the cars in GT5 really don't interest me that much. And I'm a car guy...

The only game that GT5 sort of compares favorably to is GT PSP, and only because both of them are a grind. Which is no complement to either of the games. GT5 has the career mode which GT PSP didn't, but it's so poorly implemented that I hate it. (In comparison to virtually every other console racing game done by PD.)

OK, firstly the Exp thing is a nightmare (7.5 million Exp to get from Lv 39 to Lv 40... you have got to be joking!!).

I am Lv 30 going on 31 and the 841K Exp I need to level there is bad enough. I did the Indy 500 which got me 268K Exp and I have been grinding for money (currently at c. 15 million). I think I am an Indy 500 away from Lv 31 now.

Don't get me wrong I love the racing, am terrible at most of the Special and Seasonal Events and stand no chance to get all License Tests to Gold Level. My only recourse is to repeat events. This is all very well but I am not a fan of too much repetition. I can see no future in possibly finishing off my PS3 (I currently cannot afford to replace it) by doing 24 hour Endurance races over a number of days. I found the Indy 500 was bad enough for the boredom factor and 24 hours on the same track just does not appeal. I'll contunue playing... for now!

Opening Endurance races other than each level is a pain. The repetition needed gets a little out of hand eventually.

You could not have summed it up better for the casual player. I also cannot do better than bronze in most seasonal and special events, and do not want to risk damaging my PS3 hardware. I think these endurance races are a drag to repeat, in B-Spec. I am not sure why I continue to play, but I guess I want to finish what I start.

I am currently doing the 172 laps at Suzuka and I am questioning even continuing playing the game.

I respect all that PD has done so far, as I have been playing since GT2, but the tedious grinding is getting out of hand.

Part 1:

Poorly devised EXP system.

Opinions seem to be clearly divided into two opposing schools of thought.

As much as I enjoy GT, current and previous editions, I must side with the voice of reason on this matter.

The game has been artificially lengthened (and artificially made more difficult... see part two) for whatever reason. There is no good logic behind having to do ANY event after getting gold other than pure enjoyment. The fact that you can complete in and win EVERY AVAILABLE EVENT in B-spec and not have enough credit to enter the next one is inexcusable. This shows nothing but a failure on the part of the developers to properly lineate the points system. In A-spec, there is a recourse, because you earn points for license tests, special events, and online races. In B-spec, there is NO alternative to repeating events you have already beaten.

I think it would have made infinitely more sense to restrict the races by licenses, like before, but limit the LICENSE TESTS to EXP levels. That way you couldn't just run through all the licenses at the start of the game. (That never made sense to me.)



Part 2:

Artificial difficulty.

Let me preface this by being clear that I DO NOT want an EASY Gran Turismo experience.

I enjoy a challenge, but I enjoy a realistic challenge. My biggest pet peeve with video games is when they are made more difficult artificially. In my experience, this is mostly reserved for games that use AI, and I assume this is because the programmers simply cannot make the AI perform up to par. In other games, (fighting games, sports games, platformers) there is really no way around this, as the opponents are static entities. In a racing game, however, it CAN be overcome realistically.

Let's take for example a current seasonal event. Bonus Race #2, RX-7 challenge. A properly tuned car for this race, as dictated by the rules, is vastly superior to the competitors, so the designers implemented a 3/4 lap deficit to overcome. WHY? In what realistic racing situation would you find yourself starting a race with a superior car, but that far behind? It makes no sense. Why not limit the player to an INFERIOR car, hold qualifying, and challenge the player to beat opponents in faster cars?

Then how in hell is it a hot hatch race? It's the driver's responsibility of the driver to pick fair. They can bring what they want.

For the last time, drive the cars! The XP is just something that makes you work for a car. Deal with it. Your complaining isn't going to change anything. Complaining to us isn't going to magically change your game. Play the game and accept that life isn't always fair, and that it's just a video game. Not the end of the world.

That specific race was just an example, but IMO there needs to be something to discourage players from just overpowering all the events.

I personally don't see the problem with the XP system, and the fact that you get bad cars as prices neither the fact that the credits recieved after a race are not astronimical.. It is supposed to be hard to get the rare cars, and to complete the game. I personally find it wery good that you actually have to work for it. If you love the game and think of every race as a good experience instead of taking a FGT to a enduro just to "get it over with" the problem is not a problem anymore. If all you want to do is complete the game as fast as possible, I think you could pic another game. The next GT will not be out in atleast 4 years, so why rush it? The amount of XP is in direct connection the the actual love of the game.. If you do not have the energy or find the races stimulating enough, then don't race. simple as.

+1. In order to complete GT4, you had to do 522 different races, 80 license tests, and 34 driving missions -- a total of 636 different challenges.

There is no question that GT5 takes a huge step backward in this respect.

They had a wonderful game, it was called GT4. People loved it. All they had to do was bring the graphics up to current standards and add on-line functionality. It would have ROCKED.

Instead, they screwed up the game. Fewer events. More restrictions. They took a proven format which had been solid since the first GT back in 1998 or whatever and they abandoned it, for basically no good reason at all. I'd rate GT4 about a 9.5 out of 10 as a game. I rate GT5 about a 2.5 out of 10. Sorry. It really does suck.

I am a little disappointed in the lack of different races. I sort of enjoyed having to buy two different junk Fords, a couple junk Chevys etc for races designed for those specific cars. I hope they add more races in a patch.

However, I have no problem taking the time to do B-Spec. It's hard to call it grinding when all you have to do is set the race up and then switch the TV over to a satellite, screw around online, sleep, etc.

Seasonal events won't make someone increase from level 39 to 40 and they won't make the Vettel challenge a non-disaster for controller users.

you're all silly. PD has your money now, they're not going to make any drastic changes. There will be bonus events and maybe permanent xp increases at some point, but don't expect an entire addition to A-spec like manufacturer races or anything. I have never heard so much complaining in my life. I will say though that GT2 is the best GT of them all, and probably because I was 14 and had all the time in the world to play and there were a billion races and each manufacturer had its own set of used cars and best of all, I wasn't on any internet forums at the time because I'm sure someone would've complained about something.
