X what?
I've been reading all the other threads recently, with the news from amar and stuff. But, I have a serious question. If GT5 was launched with the features below, would the PS3 actually be able to cope without a massive drop in framerates if a car overtook you or something and how much space would be required on a disc?

- random and changable weather effects - inc spray, physics effects etc
- 700+ cars all textured etc
- 90+ tracks all textured etc
- music, which you can upload onto GT5
- custom shop - tuning village - photomode - GTTV etc
- day and night cycles - changes through a race

No one can answer you this, not even the devs itself.
It also depends in how good the effects will be, how much you can compress things, what developement tools you have, what engines you use etc.

i think, there´s some kind way to compress all data in to disk, then during installation it would be descompressed to the ps3 hard disk... instead of the actual 5 gb in disk , the complete full version could take something like 10 gb ( or more...maybe 15 ) of the hd... so, plus the BD space...it would be something like 65GB of space... it looks quite enough...

sorry my bad english... from brazil...

You have up to 200 GB on a BD or even more, it always depends on how many layers the disc has.

200 gb??

Living and learning... i though it was 50gb dual layer...
well, im not quite a BD specialist.. but, now 200gb to me, looks more then sufficient space ...

I think 200GB is with 8 layers.

25 GB a layer, 8 layer BDs are expensive but "producable" (is that even a real word?).
Disc space is something no one should worry about.

700 cars ? If they are going to make them as lifelike as the ones in prologue, then the deadline would be something around 2012. And 90 tracks ?

Space is not a problem. Even if it will be too much for the hd, then you may always stream media from the net.

Yes it's possible, I think it will take 40-50 gigs.

Yes it's very possible. Disk space is not a big issues at the moment. As for the gameslowing down the only two things that would have any impact on game play performance would be weather effects and lighting effects for day-night cycles etc. But if done well then it should be managable and maybe not noticable. The number of cars and tracks and ammount of content on the disk / HDD in the game won't have any impact on the frame rate. during a race, only whats actually loaded from that lcontent library for the race in itself.

Who says that in GT5 will be some weather effects and night and day cycles?

Haven´t read anything about that...

We haven't heard anything about anything. So far all we have to base things on are rumors and Amar.

No, its not offical, just wondered if it was possible without the game folding in on itself.

it depends on how much space all it takes... the PS3 has the ability to process almost anything, on top of a Blu Ray Disc... GT5 will be cope with the processing speed of the Ps3 as well as the size of the data through BRD... nuff said!... i hope its not too much more expensive because of the size though?

But then again I don't think that they will require you to install the game on the PS3. Maybe, just the basic Prologue framework will install, but the rest of the game is playable off the disc. Which should work just fine.

I would add to that, any number of cars smoking out and wrecking, that could cause slowdown, and does in Prologue.

I think the team has a pretty good idea what they can push through the engine, and think it's probably 85-90 percent done. There are some decent performance tools available, and I'm sure Polyphony has their own, which show where they can tweak performance here and there. Keep in mind that the PS3 is similar in power to a pretty potent gaming PC. I'm buying a gaming rig which would undoubtedly smoke it in pixel and poly count, but it's the very latest AMD AM3 chipset with 4 gigs of ram and a GeForce 260 216 core graphics card with another 896MB of ram. It also costs about $1000. :p And the games won't be nearly as fun as the ones for the PS3.

While the PS3 is rather cramped in the ram department, keep in mind what Kaz and the lads have already accomplished in Prologue. It's simply stunning. What they're doing now in the full GT5 engine, we can only guess at, and they still have months to polish and tweak it further. The RSX graphics processor is very powerful, and there are seven cores available in the Cell, all running at 3.2ghz, and all freely assignable to different tasks such as bot AI, special effects, physics, any weather or damage, etc. Also keep in mind that Kazunori-dono's team is trying to get as many as 20 cars on track at once in GT5, and they won't do that if the game bogs down. But the fact that they're discussing such a thing seriously indicates to me that the PS3 is a sheer beast, loaded with power and potential, so what will be delivered when GT5 ships will probably be earthshaking.

when wet wheather was introduced to G.T. I recall only two cars on track? So instead of 16 cars in a race we might get 12 or so in events with weather, damage ect.?

It's possible the car count would drop, perhaps even by half. A properly done rainshower is like a particle effect, and chews up system performance. Having to calculate hydroplaning effects uses more. It depends on how potent the game engine is, how well it uses the Cell's processors, and how much they cull back some resources by hazing out the intricate backgrounds and simplifying the rain effects. If I recall though, weather didn'r have any effect on car count in the Formula 1 game.

i'm pretty sure it may be able to. if it could, i would sell my house for a PS3!!!!

I don't think 90 tracks is necessary, maybe 20 different locations. and then just variations of those tracks. I'd love to see Spa in GT5, although I know it wont feature in the initial release. Racing through Eau Rouge would be so awesome.:)
