If the Karts reverse gear EXISTED & was long enough, the road was dead straight, and the other racers were chimps... maybe

yes it is possible in real life

No, it is not possible in real life. Most karts have no reverse gear and in competition no kart would be as fast in reverse like opponents in forward gear....or the are as stupid as in GT5.

In between: what kind of topic is that? Is that correct english or any correct language? Can´t understand it.

thats what i thought! no reverse gear!

It wouldn't be harder than changing the direction of the engine, have a driver that's good at driving backwards and opposition drivers that are just awful.

Very possible in real life.

But you won't have this happening in any sort of official kart racing with proper drivers and normal karts, no.

Are the karts supposed to be modelled on a specific real-world kart? If not, then the creators of GT5 are free to give them whatever specs they want, including a fast reverse gear. So long as the physics work then there is nothing inherently unrealistic about this, however unlikely it may appear.

In general, though, no game is ever going to simulate real life exactly. Software has bugs or things in it that developers simply do no think of testing (I know, I work as a programmer!). GT5 is pretty damn realistic in most aspects, but it primarily is a game and critiquing it as any else is rather dumb. Even if there are obscure aspects it fails in that doesn't equate to the entire product being rendered redundant.

If I were to put on my critical hat, my primary critique would not be about reversing karts, but the way you can send a race car head on into a concrete wall at 350 km/h (and more) and the worst that can happen is that you lose a bit of time.

Yep, they should definitely use the dual-shock to pump 1,000,000 volts through you to simulate what you would actually feel :ouch:

Let's look at it this way; if the kart had one forward gear and one reverse gear that were the same length and the driver could control it (rear wheel steering and a short wheelbase would make it tricky), this could be done. Of course, it wouldn't be as easy as it is in GT5, but that's always been the problem with simulators, they let the driver go faster than they would in real life because they don't have to worry about dying, discomfort, G-force (the X2010 would be undriveable for that reason, without some sort of special suit anyway) and all the rest.

So while that could be possible in real life if karts had a reverse as long as their forward gear (assuming it only had one gear, anyway), it would be very difficult to control. I don't hear anyone complaining that it's possible to go faster in the sim because they don't have any fear, that wouldn't be possible in real life, either...

You would think that at least the car wouldn't be able to drive any more, certainly not complete and win a race?

This has been discussed to death already.
