Is Top Gear Test Track the Most Boring Track in GT5

It isn't boring. Along with the Nurburgring and its many variants, it's my test track for various cars. :)

My only gripes are that PD decided to implement their own camera angles during replays, and the lack of a standing start option. If you want to include the Top Gear track, at least include the tire wall camera! :grumpy: 👎

Deny - I think it's good fun, and not used enough in the career championships, even if the replay angles are all wrong and the cones sometimes stop you from hooking up a perfect lap (they're on the AI's natural racing line, for crying out loud!).

Most boring for me is definitely Tsukuba. It's waaaaaaaay overused, and not really that challenging: basically, point-and-squirt between four 180° corners, and repeat for however many laps is necessary. This is made even more excruciating by the fact that it hosts TWO endurance races!

It is by far and away not the most boring. Tsukuba is very boring, Daytona Oval is snooze-inducing as is Indy.

@DEATHSARTHE

I think thy may happen to miss the point here. From a scenery point of view the TGTT is boring, even the original, because there's nothing there but some runways and taxi ways. The whole point of it is to test cars, to upset their balance, that's what hammerhead, followthrough etc. are for. I'd still stay it isn't boring, but misimplemented. The cones, the invisible walls and the wrong camera positions all spoil it beyond repair.

The most epic thing would have been a real 'free-run' option, so you can thrash your steed all over the airfield hollering "POWWWERRR!" all the time :D

Completely agree with this, I don't think PD got what people would like to do in that track, I think it is supposed to be a track to drive around with no particular objective and to challenge Stig times in which case you need standing starts.

I love the TGTT. They could make it more interesting: some camera crew, and a nice touch would be a few matte black Audi S3's parked up, since they are the cars used for filming.

And I admit, real camera angles and 'no' invisible Walls would be nice.

I love this track. Since it's like a open track you don't have to follow a path the whole time. You can do what ever you would want to on it.

Rather than the track, what sucks is the things (the lack of ANY things actually) that PD did with such a huge licence. Same story as with Ferrari F1, WRC, Super GT, NASCAR, etc.

Want boring and soul-less tracks? Drive the über-tight and short Tsukuba with its hairpins and it's 4km length (I'm guessing here, could be more, could be less). Drive cape ring with its stunt-inspired corners. Even Daytona SS and HSR are more fun and alive (I actualky enjoy these).

Also, the Tilko-dromes are an immediate somnifer to me. Hermann Tilke is au contraire to King Midas: everything he touches becomes 🤬. Fuji is a good sign of that, it's only saved because it keeps part of it's 80's essence in the layout. But Nurb GP is terribly awful for instance. I'm glad none of his other circuits are in, and hopefully they never will.

/ "My 2 cents" rant.

Ok people don't agree its boring gameplay-wise, but I think the op meant it was visually boring and it is. It's by far the ugliest track of all, everything is flat! And no its not meant to be like this.

-There should be more detailed grass like in the cape ring
-The buildings should be more detailed like the buildings in city circuits
-There should be dynamic weather on the track
-What about the option to place cones yourself for online races?

The track could be made ten times more awesome!

Theres nothing really wrong with the track, if theres one or two things I could change on that track it would be 1. Remove those darn cones and 2. Open up the whole runway strip for full use.

It looks boring I guess...but the only track to really feel lively in GT is Nurb 24h. Even though I love Laguna Seca, that's probably the most boring and ugly track in GT5. I mean, at least the TGTT has a 747 parked on its track. Laguna Seca just has floating buildings, and rough track edges.

going to have to deny...having driven the top gear test track in GT5 made me realize that the track isn't as easy to drive as it's shown on the show, especially with the hammer head, if you don't slow down enough, your car will just understeer like mad and it can be a bit of a challenge trying to stay within the line. for the follow through, not only do you have to lift for some cars, the faster ones require actual braking. They kept saying you could go flat out through the beginning of the follow through (the turn before the tire wall) and it's down right impossible for some of the cars.

I have even more respect for the track after playing it on GT5, with so many blind corners, the stig really has his work cut out for him.

Here is my two cents...

Have any of you guys done any actual track days? Especially tracks similar to Willow Springs, Button Willow Raceway, or Streets of Willow, all of which are located in the outskirts of Southern California? (If you have no clue about these tracks, go ahead and Google map them, and look at the satellite view.) Those tracks are out in the middle of the dessert and there is a total lack of scenery, Why? Because the people who are on the track don't give a (insert explicit word here) about scenery, they are there to race, and that's it! I forgot which Need for Speed it is, but one of them had Willow Springs raceway and they butchered the crap out of it by trying to "make it more presentable", totally ruined the experience.

I do understand why one might ask for background scenery, sometimes I do use landmarks as braking points, or as a visual target, for example, in real life I sometimes aim for a water tower in the background when I'm blasting though the chicane on Streets of Willow. But then again that's what the markers on the side of the track are for. lol

As for the TGTT being boring? No, it is not! Any damn NASCAR track is boring, Seriously who the hell enjoys driving in a gigantic left hand circle for lap after lap?! That puts me to sleep after like the 2nd or 3rd lap!

I use it to test all my fastest cars. Also to get some photos of smoking the tires out on the open runway. Not boring to me. Got 10 different cars under 58 seconds.

Nothing, just nothing, beats Suzuka as the most boring track.

Er.....

What?!?!?

You mean 'Suzuka' in Japan, F1 track, from Prologue...classic, historic, challenging track??

Maybe there's another???

*raises eyebrow*

Exactly, more raised eyebrows here too...

I'm not a huge fan of Suzuka, but 'boring' is no way to describe that track.

OP

Did you sneeze when you typed this thread, or was your keyboard slimed Ghostbusters style, either way, that choice of colour is very strange, to the point of being hideous.

Top Gear MOST boring, er, no.

I'm a big fan of that show, it's great to have their track on GT5, it's not one of my favourites by a long way, but it's got great novelty value, and is no way the worst, or most broing track on GT5.

It might look a bit bland but so do tracks like Fuji, it may not be the most exciting to drive, but so are others.

It may by a little bit boring when compared to either the best tracks or people's favourite tracks in the game, but saying it's the MOST boring is crazy.

Have you not raced at Tsukuba, High Speed ring or the oval/super speedways??

How can they be more exciting and stimulating..

Big fat NO for my vote.

To the OP have you ever tried Racing the TGTT online with similarly powered and weighted cars it makes for some fantastic racing, Sure there's cones on the track which is a daft idea I would rather have a permanent racing line if I needed one, And indeed if I overcook it going into a turn I would like to near enough hit the 747 parked not far away instead of bouncing off an invisible wall, And yes there's no hot laps or standing starts which is a let down for all the Topgear fanatics myself included but either way its not boring

Those tracks are out in the middle of the dessert and there is a total lack of scenery,

Oh, but deserts do have scenery, and so do those tracks you mentioned! I'm actually fascinated with deserts, but that's a different story... GT5's desert just looks horrible. Laguna Seca is literally just smudges of brown and green, which is much less appealing than a real desert. I'm not asking for a Shift 2 makeover, but at least a little upgrade. I'm not a person to rag on about scenery, but I do like tracks to have some kind of atmosphere when racing.

I'd also like to add that Tsukubu is a fun track to lap around with slower cars! ...though maybe not for 13 hours.

I love the track. I have a a couple of wish lists though.

1. There should be an option for a cold start, the way they do lap times in the program.

2. Take out the invisible walls, and maybe open up the rest of the runway.

Personally they need to reduce the lighting and make the track a bit darker, since it all feels very fake. We've seen it in the wet with the runway opened up in a liscense test, and personally it looked WAY better than it does normally.

DENY.

The TGTT is as fun as you make it. If it bores you as a race track, that's your opinion, but you cany deny that it makes a good venue for drag racing, car football and general hooning.

So so true. :) British Bulldogs on there is the best!! :D

I did not read the OP because the font/color/background combination made it virtually unreadable.

Anyway... there are some incredibly bland tracks in GT5. TGTT has some redeeming value in the fact it is used in Top Gear. Much worse are the (highly overused) Tsukuba and Fuji not to mention Daytona and Indy.

I wish I could trade these for some of the great tracks of yore: El Capitan, Citta di Aria, Costa di Amalfi, Hong Kong, Paris, Pikes Peak, Tahiti Maze, etc.

Quote is full of WIN!! You mentioned basically every awesome track that I miss!! Biggest fail was lack of test course!! WHY PD WHY!?!?!? :odd:

DENY - there are tracks that I find more boring.

Tsukuba - Is a great beginner/low HP track. It becomes super boring because there are 2 Endurance races on it. Doing 7000 laps on any track will get tedious.

Daytona/Indy - Both of the left turn only tracks get real boring. I give the nod to Indy to being the most boring; because it is flatter you can not see as much of the track or position of other cars. And I've done the 7000 money making grinding laps on it.

Top Gear Test Track - has bland scenery, and loses nostalgia points for not being able to replicate the Stigs lap times, but I enjoy it more than the 3 listed above.

EDIT: I'm not recalling SSR7, which one is that? and why is it so boring?

Deny - Tgtt is a great circuit have take every corner perfectly otherwise will affect your lap time. Try it with a group of friends online its excellent fun. Ssr7 is 2 7 mile straights and a couple of corners if I remember correctly.
