Is upgrading engine to level 2 or 3 necessary ?

if I do not upgrade the engine to level 2 or 3, will i be at a disadvantage ?

I am not talking in terms of horsepower, but in terms of performance

Let's say the race is 550pp

just tying to keep the car at the pp limit

Is the Level 1, 2 and 3 performance is the same but the pp is the only difference ?

this is one tough question i have yet to answer

Not always. If you have a balance of power and a suspension setup you should be fine. I ran a stock 430 scuderia with only a RS tires in a lobby and It was up there or quicker than most cars at 520pp. The only car that was really pulling at that pp level was the LFA. That car is amazing at 550pp.
 
It much different when you upgrade the engine and then use the power limiter. It's called abusing the power limiter. By upgrading your engine, of course you get HP, but that decreases when the power limiter is used. I had heard that the torque levels are different. Thus, it gives you more power when upgraded, then power limited. This is all I know, probably more to it. You'll be more in the advantage area rather then a disadvantage.

omg. so how ? i have upgraded all my cars in the garage to level 3 :scared:

so now i just have o live with it and bank on my driving skills ?

wait, so which is better i should just leave it stock engine or upgrade to level 3 ? because the car are so expensive
 
personally i upgrade all i can then i use the limiter, it flattens the power curve and keeps u at the the max for more of the range which means more speed to me than a curve that slowly growns and maxes at 5 or 6 or whatever RPM. Just my $.02 but if u have the $ you should upgrade then pull the power down..

I've been buying the factory cars lately since most of mine are tuned.

With just a simple Stage 3 build you should be fine to get into most races (aspec, seasonal, etc)...since you have the limiter that is. I dont see a reason why you would be at a disadvantage that way. Now if you have a Stage 3 engine and weight reduction it will be hard to pull all the way down into the proper PP for most races (depending on the car and stipulations of course). There is different advantages and disadvantages to both weight reduction and HP.
 
As someone has already said, upgrading to level 3 and then detuning using the power limiter has the effect of flattening the torque/power band, so you ought to have an advantage over the same car tuned up to a given level. Having said that, you can't always get them down to where you need them to be - there was a TT everyone was using the 908 for and you could only get it down to the required bhp if it was stock (I even think running in stopped you making it).

These days, whenever there's a Seasonal requiring a certain car class, I buy a 'fresh' car and start from scratch, upgrading 1 part at a time until I can win. The good thing about this approach is that it really helps to show what each type of upgrade can do - the "Japanese Classic" was a very good recent example.

If you're online racing, I think you need a car you can get used to - I have a BMW M3 CSL that is good for anything from 500 - 550 pp. Sometimes I'll go online and try different cars and while it's interesting, usually ends in a smokey exit!

=> no engine stages and weight reductions

Therefore you don´t need to limit the power. I noticed If you limit too much your actually slower.
That´s what I do and I´m quite good with that method. It´s the only way to get the Car back to complete Stock form => you don´t need to have 2 or 3 of the same Cars (although I have xD)
 
I agree with last post above, as I am now a fan of 505pp Nordschleife racing. even a 2% Engine Limiter feels sluggish. Keep your 505pp with 100% engine limit, and tune with other settings. Tweak Suspension, Aero, optimise a gear ratio for sections on the track, and add a little ballast if needed, although I hate adding weight too if HP/TQ drops off at high RPM. It's a great trial/learning process, but I am finding several cool cars to compete for laptimes of 6:50s range.

Although Engine+3 ,ECU and low weight all sound tempting, they will exceed 515-520pp where it's all too late. There is a lucky balance to be found in every car, this is what makes this game so great. A minor tune can make or break performance, no matter what you've done to your car. Your driving and knowledge of track will very quickly determine after half a lap or two, if what you did is beneficial or not.
 
I used to just plank everything on and reduce the power using the limiter, recently tho I have starting to rebuy my favourite cars and just add parts to get me to the specific power level and go from there. I mostly race 450pp-550pp road cars anyway so its not to hard for me and I hardly ever buy more than stage 1 engine tuning now.
 
I have gotten to PP limits both ways. In my personal experience there are advantages to be had with some engines. Once you get to Stage 3 you have a balanced and blueprinted engine or something very close to it. You gain some RPMs in some engines and a lot in others. That higher RPM can allow you to hold a gear through a turn that would reguire an upshift in stock trim. It isnt a massive difference, but it is there.
