I've been using this most of the time in almost every situation possible (aside from those that don't allow it). I'm just curious if people view this as a handicap if others use it or its just not important.

Well, Its best not to use it (you will end up relying to much on it), however if you are doing a difficult race on a track you don't really know then use it if you want to. However when you don't need to use it don't use it. You learn alot more without using it.

Most tracks I use it on, but with some cars I know how to take the corner without the line, I'm just too lazy to turn it off. It takes me awhile to adjust for some cars. For example, I still need it on the X2010 but I no longer really need it on the GT-R Super GT car.

I don't think it gives any advantage, as the braking points are far off. It's slower to follow the line on most occasions.

The braking line is better because the little red light starts flashing to say GET IN A LOWER GEAR before the brake line comes up ... surely thats an advantage as all AI drivers brake early anyway

I used the Racing Line during the Indy 500!
Because if I didn't, I would just get Highway Sickness...
AKA: You lose your focus because all you do is go straight and then you crash and burn! :grumpy:

The line is often way off the most optimal line. Like on the Daytona road course, it tells you to go down on the flat in the NASCAR 3/4 turn. That is in NO WAY the fastest way to tackle that. And as mentioned the brake points are way off.

It's good to use to learn a new track, but in the long run you'll be better off without it.

I tend to use it, but at some points I just ignore it.
I leave it on, although I've actually been using it less and less.

Turn it on if you're still unfamiliar with a course. For example, I used to get lost on the last turn of Cote D'Azur and would wind up in the pit or in a wall. Now that I know where I'm going, I turn it off.

I have found it is mainly a helpful "tool" when trying to learn a circuit for me.. I wouldn't say it's cheating, but you may "cheat" yourself as another poster has stated, by becoming reliant on it...

Turning the racing line ON/OFF is an option sanctioned by the game developer. Why would you think it is cheating?

It generally makes you slower using the racing line but I still consider it cheating.

Why, it gives a chance for people to learn a track.

The line isn't really that good anyway, it's not like you'll go faster than everyone else if you use it.

The only thing is that you can't use it in real life (obviously), but drivers get a lot of practice in real life so I don't see why using the line is cheating.

oh wait...unless the OP is really cheating/hacking the game for online racing? if the host has the option for racing line OFF and he hacks the game to keep the racing line ON then I would call it "cheating."

It may be harder at first without it but you soon pick it up, and I mean very soon! Best not to use it, it makes you slower. Not the best lines half the time and always tells you to brake to early.

On new tracks it is good for a guide, once learnt it is turned off. As said above it is misleading to follow it exactly as it gives a too catious approach to the track, lines/braking or gearing points etc.

I NEED the racing line, because honestly, I'm not a very good driver to begin with, but I find myself using it less and less.

Since I'm sure a large portion of people playing are in the same position I am, I don't consider it cheating, I consider it making a difficult game accessible to the lowly masses! Hahaha!

As was mentioned, if you're hacking an online game to give you a line when it's disabled, I'd call that cheating,

I use it to help learn a track, but like others have said, it is not necessarily the 'best' line. No I don't think it is cheating, just a tool for people to use if they need it.

Gaining an advantage over the competition would be considered cheating.

As stated before, it's enabled by default. It's the competition's fault if they switch it off and disadvantage themselves, so therefore it's not cheating.
