Is v1.10 stable? Game hangs since update

Just after I installed it the game froze very often at the menus. Now it doesn't freeze very often. And after update, the game starts slower.

When it appear to be hanging- you see the blinking GT logo on the black screen- give it some time instead of assuming that the game's hanging. What usually happen in my case is that it will eventually go forward onto the menu. The fact that I'm a G25 wheel user (without the PS button because I never if ever use the DS3), and prefer to not hard-boot my PS3 means I usually have to wait and wait.

No, there's no blinking GT logo at center screen in any of these. In Type 2, the screen is all black except for "GranTurismo5" (spelled out) in the *lower right*, i.e. where the "Saving data..." flag usually appears.

I've given each of these hangups several minutes to resolve -- no dice.

Only one freeze so far (in december) but after 1.10 I've noticed slow loading menus and some issues in online lobbies, disconnections from servers and occasional lag. I'm on a one year old slim 250gb and I didn't experienced anything like that before PSN outage and 1.10.

Had another freeze, this time on the Honda Seasonals. Was loading Clubman and the bar seemed slower than usual, but moving nonetheless. Bar went away and I was left with a black screen with the GT5 logo in the bottom corner. Let it sit for nearly an hour with no change.

It was a freeze with no chance to press PS buttons on XMB?
When those menus get S L O W, I press PS and exit from online without exiting from the game.. then I rejoin PSN.

Hangup Type1 is what I am suffering with. But, as the race finishes, it pauses but the continue, restart and exit buttons do not appear. It seems to happen after long races for me( 25-30 mins.)

Does this help when the game freeze in an online lobby??

Did 1 seasonal race, won, got credits, hit exit and type 4 hit me. Stuck watching the computer do laps with no way to exit. What a complete waste of time...

^To clarify, I've never had to reset the console; it's always been possible to use the PS button and quit the game during any of these hangups.

The problem is, that's the ONLY thing you can do...and once you do it, you lose all race results and prizes from the event.

So, these errors are only catastrophic from a GT5 perspective, not from a PS3 perspective.

I just noticed that you get a hint during the races if the game will just freeze, at least Foto type two. I am currently quite excited about Le Mans, so I very often do the race in the Dreamcar Championship. Sometimes I noticed that there where no sector and gap times displayed during the race. Finished those races, wanted to exit, and I had the black screen with the text at the bottom right. Happened everytime the times where missing.

It hangs when i get to my garage, it hangs when i exit car settings, i exit a lobby and exits after 2 mins or so.
All this after 1.10.

Good news, I hope -- I disabled custom background music (and turned off all menu & race BGM, actually) and did about 20 Seasonals without a hitch. :) Might have been a placebo effect, but I felt like the menus/transitions were a bit quicker/smoother too. Too early to completely declare victory, but I'm hopeful. I'll edit the 1st post.

Maybe my menu BGM got corrupted during the recent PS3 firmware or game updates...or else v1.10 just doesn't like custom BGM. For those having issues, please indicate whether you're also using custom BGM.

I had been using custom BGM, but after reading this thread I already switched it off and did not notice any crash yesterday.

I disabled all music (menu and race) a long time before the 1.10 update.
I have not (yet) experienced any major problems when grinding seasonals or A-spec endurance. Only slow loading times mostly.
It is only in online lobbies my game freezes.

Looks like custom BGM was the culprit. Since disabling it, I've racked up 12+ hours of Seasonals and Time Trials with zero problems.

Thanks for everyone's help. 👍 Feel free to keep posting your own issues of course.

I was just about to complain, and thanks to y'all I tried disabling custom BGM and fixed the problem.

But you know, I really defend GT5 a lot on here, and it gets old. this is not acceptable product quality.

Mine froze yesterday after finishing IC-10. I was turrified! But it was after the CR and XP were given, and the trophy stayed after quit, restart, and flash drive save. WHEW!!!

I've noticed more freezes since the patch overall. Is it mostly happening to people with big garages by any chance?

I didn't get many game hangs. But I did get one while I was grinding on Eifel, Supercar Festival a couple of days ago. It was a Hangup Type 2, but instead of the sound of cars, it was just the music going. Could be wrong, though. Then I had to quit via XMB. I think the game just quit instead of restarting the entire console. I'll see If I get any game hangs/crashes when I grind again.

I mentioned in my post a few threads back that I had custom BGM off before the update, but the system freezes after updating. Tried the reinstall option and the game's okay now. So i guess so far we can sum up the successful troubleshooting steps on this thread as...

1. Make sure GT5 AND PS3 is updated
2. Clear network cache
3. Turn off custom BGM
4. backup save and reinstall GT5 data

My game just when I quit a race earlier this evening. It never showed the race menu, the screen stayed black (with the gt logo in the bottom right corner) and the music kept on playing. I had to turn off the game after several minutes:nervous: No idea whether this is related to the recent update. It's annoying though, because I lost all the tuning adjustments I did.

Now I'm getting really frustrated. I just finished my Bob's 24h race and of course the game did hang after the finish line! I already knew this would happen lol.

And for the seasonal events... I can only finish one race and after that every race I try to do in the same "series" the game hangs after the finish line. It is only getting worse.

At the moment only thing I can race with this update is online. There this happens only about in 1/5 of the races and then I have to reset the console.

PD you have to fix this problem ASAP please!

Before the update, after any special license mine would do this, but would eventually snap out after about a minute, but now it freezes after random races and the GT5 logo appears

I'd have to agree that 1.10 is not a "clean" patch. I've experience more delays and hangs since the new patch that I've never had before.

Which if this is the way their planning to do business with the series going forward I don't think it's going to work very well. New edition then patch, patch, patch til it's where it's supposed to be? Not!

Oh Great! I resorted to deleting the game data and i'm going through the looooong process of re-downloading the patches and installing the game again as we speak.....and then I found this thread.

I don't think 1.10 is the problem, I think it's a combination of custom BGM and the 3.66 update.

Many other users of both this game, and others, have noticed stability issues (hang ups, frozen screens, etc.) since 3.66 was released.

Kaz has tweeted that PD is working on stability on their end, but as usual there's never a timeline.

A cursory glance at the billions of threads posted here daily about this issue leads me to believe that

A- yes, they know about it.

and...

B- yes, they're (Sony and PD) are working on it.

After wasting 30 minutes last night trying to gift a damn museum card, I understand the frustration at not being able to enjoy what we paid for. That being said, at the moment, there's also not a lot we can do about it.

For "preventative" measures, please do the following:

1. Clear your system cache.
It's in your Network Options. No evidence that this helps, but it has been known to improve loading times in the past. If your PS3 talks to PDs servers, clear your system cache daily.

2. Disable custom soundtracks. Kaz mentioned this in a tweet a few weeks ago. Again, if your PS3 talks to PD servers (online races, Seasonal events, Remote Racing, item gifting- even the free paints and cards, etc.), you'd probably be better off listening to the car anyway. Most have reported a noticable improvement with Seasonals after doing this simple step.

3. Reset your internet connection before playing. See that power cord on the back of your modem? Yank it, then replace it BEFORE you power up your PS3 and access the network, let alone play GT5.

4. Pray to deity of choice. Might seem blasphemous, but who else are you going to call? (Ghostbusters is too obvious) Maybe YOU will be the lucky one Jesus/Mohammed/Allah/Xenu/Santa/Tooth Fairy will answer, and maybe they'll grant your one wish to fix your games and PS3. Probably not, though.

If all that fails, proceed to Sony customer support. They're about as useful as #4 anyway.

Good luck
