My thing with Chinese cars is that a majority of them seem like generic copycats. Take the silver truck in the above Vision Flow image posted above by tankuroded. Does that not look like a cheap copy of the cyber truck? I mean if we're going to have Chinese cars, could we at least get ones that don't look like cheap copies? Even the car in the poster image for this article looks like a rip-off of a 720s but in a sedan form. It's like Chinese manufacturers have no real identity of their own.

Edit: And if PD/Sony are going to pay for licenses, why should they bother with copies when they could invest just a bit more money and get the real thing?

However, I agree about copying. Similar to how Japan copied USA cars and Korea copied German cars. I mean, an i30 hatch look like the spitting image of a Golf. Why buy the i30 when people can buy the real Golf, right? Weren’t Hyundais pushing 10 year warranties, but the quality are much better to drop down to “normal” five year warranties?

China have a huge population and largest manufacturing. Much improved from 14 years ago. A Chery back then is way different to a Chery today. Those things used to fall apart by just thinking about them. (Young)People, I see in Australia, are buying Chery CUVs for cost, pairs with their phone(obviously), and still have some style to them.

The more companies that want to assist PD in continuing the franchise so be it. I don’t see a down side.

I'm not completely against copying perse... But I just think there are limits. If a car designer is inspired by other designs, then sure, go for it and use those elements as inspiration. I mean that's how we've gotten so much variety in the automotive industry nowadays. The limit is when you take an overall design and copy it to the point of barely changing anything about the design element other than a headlight or bumper and then trying to pass it on as if it was your own.

Plagiarism is really all I see from most Chinese manufacturers. I mean we could look at the Cherry eQ1:

Is that not literally a Smart ForTwo but with different lights and bumpers? 🤔 I'll let you guys be the judge.

Can’t really see it as a carbon copy(maybe I picked the wrong year?). Yeah, the concept for sure, but… the Toyota/AM collab could be put in that mix too.

This doesn't really illustrate your point. And with a car soo small, there's not a whole lot you can do with the styling anyway.

You are describing something that happened like 10 years ago.
Just take a look at the recent Shangai auto shows. You can like or dislike what they offer, but you cant say they are making generic copycats.

Brands like BYD, Lynk & co, Geely, Changan etc are making really fresh things.

Interesting. I actually like the car but unless PD creates some EV series there won't be a lot of use for this car. Which is a shame because it actually looks decent and not something designed by a 7yr old

Just to clarify: We can buy GT7 freely in China mainland. It's just we have to buy it in HK store. Games released on HK store are effectively considered as launched in China mainland. No big deal for us, been this way since forever.

Intrigued but, honestly, not excited. I get it. EVs are(or were) supposed to be the new wave IRL.

Yeah, considering the european brands owned by chinese companies, it's a good thing beyond the Xiaomi case to see Kaz landing more often in China recently.
